  • The king was in his counting house counting out his money... I used to play this on my fisher price record player at the age of 7 memories..

  • I never knew this song until I read that it was really a song for recruiting pirates.

  • dang, to play this song on ocarina is hard, it goes much quicker on the learing CD :P

  • beautiful harmonies. I love this song.

  • woah...this song is about pirates?

  • lovely, I want to study a pocket full of rye by Agatha Christie with my students, and so I discovered this rhyme, they are french and learn English, what a fun to sing this song!

  • Congratulations!

    You are now a pirate.

  • What a delightful rendition of this nursery rhyme! Thanks for posting it.

  • those crazy pirates and their songs lol

  • When the pie was Open it tore a vortex into the very fabric of reality!!!

  • u sing good

  • really cute!

  • I learned it with the word pecked... I dont care, It was well sung i thought, and i liked the animation.... what program did you use?

  • This song resembles the covering up of criminals in government sanctioned by our enemies in power in the USA. Their hate groups are frothing at the mouth. They should likely be euthanized or vaccinated. Google Mobile Audit Club to see this song link to todays Foreword Note

  • erm

  • huh i have to sing this for chior

  • this is wonderful, thank you very much.

  • creepyy

  • i like the animation and your singing too.

  • I liked that. Thanks for posting.

  • this is creepy

  • I have to sing a Halloween version of this song for my Child Development class lol

By the way, this video is amazing. I love the animation, and the fact that you sang it yourself! The harmonies are great.

  • Thanks much for the compliment(s). Good luck with your class!

  • that pirate recruiting tale has no factual basis to be accounted of, snopes made that up. No one really knows the meaning of his song since it poissibly goes back to the 1500's.

  • what about their sources then? I'm too fucking lazy to read them but shouldn't that indicate that it's true?

  • fine song, too bad it has a coded message used to recruit pirate crew

  • pecked off her nose, how can a bird snip

  • "nipped"?

  • need fingers to nip so....anyway it's pecked

  • Hmm, if you say so... To me "snipped", "nipped" and "pecked" all seem fine (and I think I've heard that song in all these variants).

  • did u sing it ?

  • good job! excellent arrangement.

  • wow! you did all of that? you are really talented!

  • Thanks, time4tacos! Your screen name makes me giggle. I love it.

  • You're welcome! :D

  • lmao, ok i wanna know why every little kid nursery rhyme is semi-violent. anyone ever notice that? this song "when along came a black bird and snipped off her nose". think of some others, you'll see what i mean haha. (good song and animation on this video btw).

  • Yes, you're right. Like "down will come baby, cradle and all". Yeah, I have noticed that before.

  • Most nursery rhymes and fairy tales were made up from every day experiences or as a caution, which children and adults alike would sing or say allowed (this was before the time of internet, television, radio and sometimes even books). You must take into consideration that not only was concept of what was right or wrong for a child vastly different when these were written (for instance, death and disease were extremely common), also their original meaning is often lost upon a contemporary reader.

  • a lot of nursery rhymes date back to the 13th century and before that, even. Nursery rhymes were sometimes used to remember historical events. Ring Around the Rosy is a great example. to remember the Great Plague (Bubonic Plague). After finding out the meaning of the nursery rhyme it made me rethink my childhood when i would dance to this seemingly merry little song.

  • @giusgius33 Daily life was hard and very violent in the days when nursery rhymes were a going concern.

  • aw, that was cute :)

    beautiful arrangement.

  • You have a great voice, and the three birds are pretty.

  • I love the musical arrangement, very balanced.! Five Stars!

  • Thanks, miluko3. :-)

  • Hey..

How did you mix the audio together?

Did you use any special software?

    thanks!!

  • I used the open source software Audacity.

  • Cool!!

  • Audacity rocks...

  • lol this song was used to recruit pirates xD

  • That's a myth.

  • No, Its true. It was not used to to say recruit pirates as like oh lets got ask for a job but was use to show that black beard was bragging about his ship and exploits. The song would be heard and you where supposed to follow for possible recruitment.

  • Yep, it's true.

  • Mmhh, nice musical arrangement!

  • Very well done! 5 stars.

  • I was singing this to my son. He loved the video!

  • Glad you guys enjoyed it. Sounds like a sweet time together. :)

  • Whoa, creepy...

Kin'a reminded of the kidney stealing unicorns...

  • Well they did mention biting.

  • The nursery rhyme "Sing a Song of Sixpence" originated as a coded message used for recruiting pirates. Cool huh?

  • yes i know!!!

the "blackbird" is actually referring to blackbeard the pirate

  • yes...but "blackbirds" also refer to Blackbeard's minions.

  • "Sing a song of six pence, a pocket full of rye" refers to the way Blackbeard payed his crew, they got six pence and a canteen of rye beer a day, the "blackbirds" refer to 24 of Blackbeard crew who would sneak behind and ambush ships while Blackbeard distracted them. "the king" is Blackbeard, and the Queen is his ship, "the Queen Anne's Revenge" when she was "eating bread and honey" she was at port."the maid" refers to a target ship, when "the maid was hanging out the close" she was out to sea.

  • Yeah, we talked about that in History not too long ago.

  • Still, very beautiful. Where did you get the harmony arrangement? It's extremely well done.

  • I love it!!!! This song is so beautiful!

  • oh sorry i mean black birds

  • this song rox but not when crows are singing!

  • Nice work, Allison. -Jerry

  • The King was in his counting house counting out his cash the Queen was in the kitchen frying corned beef hash

  • Too funny :)

  • This song ROCKSSSSSSSSS!!!

  • This song ROCKSSSSSSSSS!!!

  • badass

  • Actually about the pirates that was a complete hoax, but lately I've seen it passed of as fact it was started by a popular website.

  • i also remember this song from when i was a little girl i even know the lyrics

  • Pirates? Coded messages? what nonsense

  • The surprising truth is that this innocent little rhyme, which dates from the early 1700s, actually represents a coded message used to recruit crew members for pirate vessels!

    -eldon =)

  • i sing this song to my kids at bedtime.!!

  • Found this by accident. Beautifully executed. Many thanks.

  • Wow, this has got to be one of my favourite rhymes. I love the way it flows and now I know the tune of it. Yay!

  • wow! ur so good! it seriously rocks. personally this is the first i've ever heard the rhyme but not i have it favorited cause it's so catchy(is that even a word? oh well)

  • Wow, for some reason I can't stop listening to this! It's so well done, and your voice sounds beautiful. I knew the nursery rhyme, but I had no idea how the tune went. Now I do! Thanks!

  • this song is awesome because it was the sort of song pirates used i like reading about pirates it's fascinating

  • Awesome ???!!! What's awesome? Did I miss something in a pretty tune?

  • there is finally a tune for this! YAY im using the rhyme for a scouting camp i work at in the summer and have been tryig to find a tune to go with it.

and great video - very simple i loved it

  • The song is quoted by Elvis Costello in his song PILLS AND SOAP, you can find the song here in you tube.

  • dyl loves it

  • Cool, but amazing. Chicken nuggets taste very nice to ducks in ponds. Did you know that last night I gave an ant a present? I gave it some singapore noodles and then I put them in a washing machine! The colours contrasted so well! Anyway, mud pies aren't what they used to be, they are so fragile nowadys, they can't even take a simple joke. I like the smell of honey roasted flowers, they remind me of dinasours teeth.

  • ...this is possibly the most interesting comment I've read on youtube. O_O

  • oh I bet you think you're sooooo quirky and original because you think you're 'random'.

    go back to myspace faggot

  • I love this song. It freaks me out. 8D

  • did you know this song is based on the pirates codes long time ago?

  • so cool :)

  • Pretty. ^_^

  • It must have been fun timing yourself so it all matched. :3 Good work!
