  • I bought the book after watching the movie...i know pathetic -.-...but its taking forever to send ima kill myself !

  • Hi Anne, I just got done reading The Feast of All Saints, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was cool to learn about the Creole culture, and the time period in which this book takes place. As for the Showtime series, I enjoyed it, and it was a surprise for me, since I had just got done reading it. Anyways, as soon as I heard that you approved of it, I just had to watch it. Queen of the Damned, the movie, wasn't very good, so I was hoping to see an accurate portrayal of 1 of your books.

  • This has become one of my favorites! It felt so good to see a "black history" movie that didn't fall into a typical theme. It felt even better to see a movie about historic creole culture. What an extremely attractive and talented cast!

  • @briarts its not a "black" history movie, more like "mulatto-bordering-on-white" history. those werent India Aries that were coming to those balls

  • @Rockstafeller in general, it is a great movie with people of color about people of color. It was a different story than what is typically shown.

  • @briarts you're Creole? you do look exotic, if thats you in the background

  • @Rockstafeller yep, I'm creole and that's me in the background. Thanks for the compliment.

  • @Rockstafeller Creoles are NOT black. We are MIXED =) thanks

  • @chsn09 And what do you think black people are who have had ancestry in America for hundreds of years ?African ? We are all mixed not just creoles only difference is we dont have a problem saying we are black :)

  • @kbediso Haha, You know the bullshit that you just spewed is really funny. UNLIKE black people and AAs, CREOLES actually KNOW what parts of Africa they descend from haha!

I was speaking specifically of Creoles. Look at the comment I was responding to before you make such judgmental comments.

Honestly I would not consider Black Americans to be really black. If AAs go to some countries in Africa they will be in for a rude awakening w/ how Africans refer to U.S. blacks as white or NOT black

  • @chsn09 Umm you still sound stupid with that comment cause like I said we dont have a problem professing our blackness only you creol I dont wanna be black motherfuckers do okay have a nice day !!!!

  • @Rockstafeller India Arie is actually mixed

  • This was a great mini series taken from 1 of her 2 best books: this one and a " Cry from heaven".

Everyone talks about the Vampire stuff but these are 2 gems for me, puts Anna into the classics category along with Louis Stevenson and Walter Scott.

  • i hate the ass hole who has the ovie but instead decided to upload clips of jennifer beale instead of the whole movie, asshole

  • @BesosXOXO123 Could you let me know if you find the whole movie online. Thanks.

  • @BesosXOXO123 I thoroughly concur! =)

  • please someone me where to get this movie

  • Just to clarify for those that didn't already know, the lovely song being played in the trailer is vivaldi: the four seasons, summer. It doesn't really say on the inscription, and I had to hunt it down myself. One of the most lovely classical works I've heard

  • Most of this was filmed in Kingston Ontario. I watched some of these scenes being played out live :D

  • lucky! lol

  • i LOVE this movie. this history of the gens de couleur libre is just fascinating. and all the actors in this movie are great!

  • at 0:4 is that marcel?!

  • I'm sorry, I am a little pissed the divine Eartha Kitt has been tagged as Ruby Dee in this video.....fix it she deserves better.!!!!!!

  • @crockeac i know. even though Ruby Dee does star in the movie they should have shown her and gotten Eartha Kitt right.

  • Man I saw this when it premiered so long ago but I remember how great it will always be. Favorite movie of all time I must say and desperately need it on dvd.

  • I have read the novel and wish I could watch this movie in my country...

  • You are not missing anything. They got the LOOK of the characters right, but none of the passion of the book. It would have been better if the person who directed "interview with the vampire" did this movie.

  • Feast of All Saints is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was captivated and amazed by it. I was born and raised in New Orleans East this is the history of my city.

  • read the book

  • Feast of All Saints is one of my favorit movies of all time. I was captivated and amased by this series. I was born and raised in New Orleans this is the history of my city.

  • Yes. That gorgeous music is Vivaldi . . . I have it in my car . . . I love it, too!

  • Not to bug you, but do you know the specific name of the piece?

  • Yes, it's Vivaldi's Summer, G Minor "Allegro Non Molto". Love it. It's a part of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

  • 0:42 she looks like an adult version of my 2 yr old. My daughter in mixed race too

  • It will be on Showtime Beyond Monday night at 11:45pm est.

  • This was a wonderful mini series that told about the Creole people pre civil war. Anne Rice did such a wonderful job with the research of the Creole. It give a different outlook on the free people of color. It is coming on next week on Showtime. It remind me so much of my family which is from the same region.

  • I have Yet to see this! I read the book years ago...But, I've read All of Your books. Waiting for Called Out of Darkness...It's in the mail. I have to finish the last Lovejoy first! XOXO* All the Love!

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE UPLOAD THE MINISERIES fEAT OF ALL SAINTS. ANNE RICE

  • YES I WANT THIS TOO!

  • I LOVE THIS! BEST BOOK EVER!

  • I loved this movie! i got it a F.Y.E

  • Loved this book! one of my all time favorites.

The movie was pretty good, but it should have been filmed on location in NOLA like Interview with the Vampire. Robert Richard IS Marcel!!! Those beautiful eyes!

  • this movie was GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

  • I have to see this!

But first I want to read the book.

  • The rape scene scarred me for life.

  • @noirgirlcity - That's essentially what happened. Blacks were nothing more than sexual objects of the beastly desires of Caucasians. Black women were raped; Black men were sodomized. This movie did NOT sit well with me. It disturbed my spirit.

  • @GingerBronze

about the 'black experience' in america in the 18th century - Blackwomen had no protection from anyone or the law. they could be raped at anytime & she would have no way to get recourse from the attacker, to punish the man.

Blackwomen had only their strength & wits to defend themselves.

the truth of american history has not been told, mainly because it is rift with violence, degeneracy, exploitation, & the worst human beings to walk the earth.

  • really good movie.loved it and made me cry.

  • where can i watch this movie? and whe was it out??

  • Again, the DVD is readily available on Amazon and probably other online sites. Well worth it, I must say. As the author, I was very proud of this achievement. And I think it is as timely as ever, the story of the free people of color before the Civil War. Obama's candidacy has probably increased insterest in black history. Anne.

  • anne rice...did your research for your book take you to the New Orleans Archives? or where most characters fictional from a real period in New Orleans history. also i love researching New Orleans, it is most fascinating from its historical beginnings to today. i spent 10 months there after katrina, trying to help with rebuilding the city. can you recommend any additional reading for one interested in the history of New Orleans? thanks

  • the gens de coleur libre were victims of the extreme racism of American society in the 17th & 18th century. but some were able to rise above the evil of that time & became contractors, real estate developers, the 1st. black newspaper publisher, merchants. while most of Black America was brutalized & raped under chattel slavery, this group of mixed black & white was the frontline of black progress in 19th century america.

my film tells how the Gens de Coleur Libre built the city of New Orleans

  • @jagib2 True and they were faggish as well, look at that Blonde dude, how he talked to Marie, what fag, if you're take her then take the responsibilty too.

  • Thanks, I'll order it.

I loved your book about your spiritual journey back to the Catholic Church.

  • @annericesite Could you upload the whole movie please? Everyone would really like to see it.

    Thanks.

  • This was an awesome mini-series. It was all too tragic What happened to Marie St. Marie though but she got her own happy ending when she went of to France with her husband.

  • That wasn't Ruby Dee that was Ertha Kit

  • Yeah it was Eartha Kitt...

  • The book was much better in my opinion, although i did also enjoy the movie.New orleans is one of the most facinating places and has a very unique history.I loose myself in that city, its a state of mind and Anne Rice captures it brilliantly in this book.

  • can you put the whole movie

  • The film is available on DVD, and working with John Wilder, the screen writer was one of the most pleasant and educational experiences of my career with Hollywood. I've posted this because I so fervently recommend the film to anybody who might be interest. Thanks, Anne Rice.

  • I miss this movie. Thanks Im going to buy it now I LOVE it so much.

  • can you put the whole movie on here. i dont have a credit card and cant buy it over the internet

  • i remember seeing this movie and i HATED the fact that i couldnt see it again!!!!!!! i LOVED this movie, the cast was excellent, and robert ri'chard looked gorgeous...

  • Robert Ri'chard is hot!!!

  • Amazing cast!

  • can you put the whole movie please!!!!i love it

  • I didn't know Anne Rice did a book called Feast Of All Saints! Yay, must be one i haven't read. I'll have to look into that.

  • I wish is was posted in youtube now.

  • I want to see this!! Looks good. I haven't read the book yet but now I will!

  • the only book i didnt read...

  • Sadly I have no read this book or seen the movie, but I will have to do both they look excellent. Maybe showtime should be approached to pick up the cancelled Mayfair miniseries.

    -Alex

  • The movie sucked , even if you don't think about the book. I would still watch it, if you are a fan of Anne Rice, period films or curious about the Gens de colour libre. The book was a masterpiece.

  • Great cast! I gotta see this one!

  • It IS a PERFECT CAST, but the movie did not flow well at all. I will blame the director or producer or editor. It looks like they started with the best intentions but had to hurry it along because they were going over budget.

  • From Anne Rice: The mini series played on Showtime, and it is widely available now on cds. Amazon has it and probably other such sites. Not hard to find at all. Order it. And it does illuminate a vital chapter of black history in New Orleans. Obama's candidacy has probably increased general interest in black history. This is good.

  • From Anne: sorry, I meant it's available on DVDS, not cds. And I remain very proud of the whole production. John Wilder, the scriptwriter did a great adaptation of the novel.

  • i think interest in black history was alive and well before obama's candidacy...gee, maybe people like martin luther king, jr. and rosa parks had something to do with creating it, not to mention black history classes at universities world wide may have played a teeny part in that interest...LOL

  • WitchOfEastwick, you're right, of course that black history was alive and well before Obama. But I sense an increase in interest. When I first went out with The Feast of All Saints, people were not really that interested in the free people of color in New Orleans. Now people are much more receptive. Many forces no doubt helped to make the change. Anne.

  • I picked up Feast for two reasons: the subject and the quality of the writing. I have devoured nearly every book you've written. I am shocked to read in reviews here and on other sites that so many people did not.

  • do you know any specific sites

  • I'm wondering if it was released too. I've read the book, which is on my highly recommend book list by the way, so I definitely need to find out where I can see this mini series!

  • I am also wondering if this was ever released? I am in the US would love to see it? When does it come on?

  • This looks fantastic! But where can I see it? Can I watch it from the UK and will it be on youtube???

  • I really want to read the book now!
