Glad to see you back making videos, but very sorry to hear you lost your job. This is a very scary situation, especially for anyone over 50. I've been stressed out to the max also + my best co-worker got fired yesterday (after 9 years on the job). She's 54. Her boyfriend has been unable to find a job for the past year and a half. They will literally end up on the street, if this bill does not pass. I will most definitely call my senators. Thanks for posting this!
@55ella2007k Thanks ella. We all would like to be working instead of collecting unemployment, it's been years since I had to file. All the luck to your friend.
@Silveracity No I don't want to extend unempolyment indefinitely. Historically we have extended until the unemployment rate dropped to an acceptable rate of around 4%. I think we should cut off the extensions when that happens.
@mopme2008 I think if everyone had an option of working or collecting unemployment, they would work..that said, if you or someone you know is on unemployment they need to sit down and think long and hard about how they would live without income from unemployment and start making a plan.
From here in the UK,what happens to the unemployed after 99 weeks and how do they survive?Please remember the unemployed were not responsible for the fraud,deception and thieving that is the banking system.Banksters are the ones responsible for our financial crisis-so where are the cops,hopefully not in bed with them?
@justjacqueline2004 After 99 weeks you are shit out of luck, that's what happens. If your house is paid off, you might be ok for awhile, if you rent, you will get evicted + end up on the street.
@Silveracity --- yes, as a tax-payer, I am willing to pay someone to NOT DIE while LOOKING FOR WORK indefinitely until they get a job. "Do unto others...."
@thorkyll Yes, I agree. Obviously, this person has never experienced such a calamity first-hand, or has enough of a personal 'cushion' to shield him/herself from it. Not everybody is in that position - the majority isn't. The amount of selfishness exhibited by some people is simply astounding.
@Silveracity I'm willing to pay for it, because I don't want to live in Third World economy. There plenty of unemployed who are desperately looking for work. The majority are not LAZY people. Do you think that living on unemployment is joy-ride? Have you tried to live on an unemployment check for 6 months on end? You seem to have swallowed the elite propaganda whole. Or do you want people like boomer + myself, who have worked all of our lives AND paid taxes, to end up in a homeless shelter?
I do know people who took great effort to delay getting a job until their benefits ran out, so for those people yes, it was a “joy ride”
I have never collected even a cent of unemployment benefits.
If you have worked all your life, you “should” have saved a percentage of your total income for times such as these. If you had, you would not be as bad off as you seem to be. That being said, I have no reason to wish for anyone to end up in a homeless shelter.
@Silveracity I know 2 people personally who spend their days playing games and they don't bother looking for jobs. They are getting paid by the taxpayers so there is no motivation for them to work. Even the person who made this video does not want to work lower paying jobs like Mcdonalds but yet they have no qualms about accepting taxpayer charity.
@DRBrad34 I've been paying taxes and into Unemployment for longer than you've been alive my friend. I'm glad it's there but believe me I'm not getting rich off of my unemployment check, or living the high life.
@Boomer1949 The unemployment fund is funded by employers, not employees. If you had looked on your paycheck, there is no deduction for unemployment . That is a common misconception. However, the unemployment fund you are referring is only for the first 26 weeks of unemployment. The system was not designed to used over 26 weeks. Anything beyond that comes directly from taxpayers, it is basically taxpayer welfare. The extensions should be eliminated to reduce the deficit.
@DRBrad34 Your wrong. Apparently you haven't received a pay check in a long time. Mine has these deductions: Fed, OASDI, Medicare, NY (state), NYS Disability. Within the OASDI tax is unemployment, of which I paid 6.2% and the other half is payed by my employer. And if you don't know this simple fact, then I can't take any of your other comments seriously. You have no idea how the system works.
@Silveracity It's hard to put a definite time limit on this, at this particular time, because increasing unemployment without a safety net in place, will simply have a snow ball effect. More people lose their homes, unable to contribute to the real economy. They then qualify for food stamps...and it becomes a vicious circle. Massive job programs are needed. Without this, the elites will benefit from the high employment, by driving down wages in order to compete with those in China + India.
"...they need our help, because they are all assholes, idiots and dimwits in Washington. We have to direct them like you would a two-year old child."

Do you want to extend someone’s unemployment benefits indefinitely?
Do you want someone losing their job at 18 and remaining on unemployment until they “retire”?

@Boomer1949
Historically that may have been prudent for shorter recessions, but what happens if high unemployment is the new normal?
Silveracity 1 year ago
@Silveracity I haven't a clue, do you? It's a frighting thought, isn't it?

An extension just delays the inevitable though. What happens when the extension runs out?

How many weeks do you think someone should get unemployment benefits?
