Next, it's explained in the show that what hes made is a bloodpact, so him and the Escaflowne are one, two parts of one whole. Finally, he's a prince that's been trained in the arts of war since he was little, safe to assume this means gymelef piloting as well.

Just the opposite actually: the series was originally intended to be purely a shonen series, but later in production they decided to shoujo it up a little to try and grab more female viewers. That's when they changed Hitomi into a track star (previously she'd been more a moe meganekko type) and all the male designs into bishonen.
