I'm kind of happy that you got arrested, everyone can get handcuffs on just by filming private property, specially with private security, it's nothing specially really. Next time ask for written permission, which propably leads to that you can have your bank-logos etc, but most of all other foottage will be cut out by the property owner or private security on that local.

It is called being detained. A police officer may detain for 24 hours without charges being laid. When a police officer asks for identification it must be given, If you look on the back of your drivers license it states it. It's not abuse of power, they where on the property and therefor detained for not being able to give their identity.

My source is the Ontario Public Works Act: Entry into specific areas can be denied or monitored (Eg. ID shown for entry) in the interest of public safety. It was originally written to keep the public out of demolition areas, overrunning culverts and the likes and was amended to apply to safety issues regarding the G20 conference (and not for the first time, there have been many amendments to the act in the public interest). To imply that a new LAW was passed is inaccurate.

The Ontario Public Works Act clearly defines what property can be considered public works where yes, you give up your rights if you choose to enter. The Lieutenant Governor in Council made an amendment to that act that expired already. That amendment outlined new areas that would be temporarily included in the original public works act. Take a look at the Act and read it and, you will see.. they were way out of their jurisdiction when a lot of these things occurred.

When a police officer asks for identification it must be given, If you look on the back of your drivers license it states it. I asked what was going on and I was told that they could not divulge that information; just then a Police Special Units Explosives Truck comes pulling up. I asked if I should be worried, another Officer speaks up and says oh ya it’s a big emergence. Unfortunately, they aren't going to be using that Park. It would have been fun...I've been on demos in the financial district and it's boring and concrete and no one will see or be close to the people I would want to protest against. I'd rather be at the park, downtown with allies. Some people who use the park don't care about the demo, support the demo and would be happy to have people there.

The Black Bloc is a tactic, not a group.
Organizers for the G20 resistance recognize solidarity and respect for diversity of tactics. This includes Black Bloc Tactics!!!!
The Black Bloc does not discredit peaceful protesters. The mainstream media does that. And so do folks masquerading as allies who are willing to throw others under the bus.

@weavingspider I understand you may not agree with certain tactics. But to engage in divisive rhetoric is really unhelpful. We need solidarity now more than ever. The people who engage in Black Bloc tactics are the same as those who are organizing and making peaceful protests happen. We don't all have to agree, but WE MUST SUPPORT EACH OTHER!

I also understand the need to hide faces and identities, however, if I see some "Black Bloc" B-TTPL-G trying to start a riot with the cops over some pathetic attempt to vandalize a garabge can, I'm gonna start a problem with him!

Because that is what those who will be engaging in Black Bloc tactics have been doing for over a year! If you want to let yourself be suckered in by the dominant media narratives, go right ahead. Your 2 links are a bunch of commie BS! Get a grip! The Black Bloc is NOT about using 1 of the various types of tacticts (in this case violence) to overcome, "political and ecological," injustice. Sure, if you are gonna actively resist and it gets nasty that's one thing, but being paid to start fights with the intention of having cops come in and rip crowds apart over your actions, is a CRIME, and NOT something we should work together on or respect those that do.

@FreeinTX Look. A lot of work is being done to ensure that groups practicing various means of dissent give each other space and respect. That means that groups who believe that structural violence is a justified, useful, and necessary response to the state's violence will do so at times where it won't jeopardize the safety and message of non-violent protesters. It also means that those who subscribe to the cult of non-violence don't piss on the hard work of allies!

What you are describing here has NOTHING to do with the, "Black Bloc." Again, I AGREE with the idea that active and aggressive acts are sometimes necessary to get attention that would otherwise not be had, however, the "black bloc" are PAID by the government to do things that justify taking government action against the crowds. They act SPECIFICALLY to allow the government to act and their actions be percieved as justifiable.

@weavingspider Vandalism isn't violence; there's no difference between spray painting a cop car and kicking out it's tail lights. As for real violence, the Black Bloc are on the front lines fighting the IMF in Greece, their rights are being taken away as we speak.... are you suggesting they wait until they're rights are gone before they fight back? Rights didn't help your buddy that was arrested did they? Violence is a reality, it's used against us every day by the police.
