Now that seems like a lot, but HD videos, more content rich websites, multitasking (downloading a movie while streaming another, torrents), I remember when dial up was enough, the 300kbps then 1.5mbps, now 10mbps is minimum. Also Caps in most cable companies will make it impossible to really take advantage of those speeds. I wish lived in Utah with their fiber network cause Verizon sucks too.

It's more than likely your router. I have FiOS, and I had the same problem. After the new router upgrade, I'm getting the 20 mbps I'm paying for. So, yeah. Call the Verizon support center and ask them why your internet is so slow (considering you're paying for something much better than cable) and mention the router you're using. Worked for me.
