The old laddy had problems understanding the cop, hense why she replied in Greek (by asking why he is speaking English) after the copper demanded her papers.

Once the copper said the word [shoot] the old laddy then thought he meant [ssssht], which is an expression us Greeks make when we want a person to keep their mouth shut.

Bassically, the whole plot is ironic, considering that you have a cop car in a quite vilage, with some Greek officer trying to speek English with an American accent:)
