  • The light truck used in this never existed during the Second World War and if it had, it certainly would not have been the hands of British civilians. It's a 1950's German military "Jeep", a DKW Munga with a crude truck body attached. A 1973 Doug McClure TV movie makes similar mistake, equipping the British Army in North Africa with two Austin Champs, not built until after the war, they would have had Willys Jeeps like the Americans.

  • some good sex scenes in this one

  • Donald Sutherlund's "creepiness" and pale body put me off the much vaunted sex scenes...

    ...I was unable to finish!

  • This is the original soundtrack (the LP version), is it not? I suspect so because it sounds clearly superior to the recording I had that was done later by another orchestra and released on the Varese Sarabrande label. Some aspects/attacks on the love theme on the latter recording always sounded harsh to me. I always though the original to be much more sensitive and thus moving performance.

  • @saxophile1 yes it is the original recording friend...glad you appreciate it

  • Thanks for posting this. What a memorable film! And in retrospect mostly for the music, though it is a great love story from Follett's best novel. I enjoyed this movie so much back in 1981 that I begged my Mom to take me back to see it again that summer. Someone commented that it was a mediocre production; but it had a style about it like other movies of that period that is becoming a lost art. My fav scene is when the ill-fated lovers chat in the dimly lit room and a nervous Lucy cuts her hand.

  • @saxophile1 thankyou for yoyr very nice comments....yes i agree while the movie is decent enough its certainly enhanced by milos's beautiful score....sadly an entire generation has probably never heard of mikos rozsa.....i hope a few more people become aware of him through sites such as youtube

  • Beautiful stuff by Rozsa. This is VERY reminiscent of an earlier film, "The Spy In Black" (1939) which starred Conrad Veidt. Rozsa also did the score for that one. Talk about deja vu!

  • Happily, the film was an equal to the score. Both great.

  • as the low angle camera pans around Donald Sutherland just as the music builds up to a crescendo...it's one of those happy coincidences where music and image combine and create a transcendental moment.

  • With regards to Rozsa's music to "Eye of the Needle", I believe that it turns what is essentially a good film into a drama of high emotional intensity. A lot of that is to do with the music. Witness Kate Nelligan's discovery of the body. Though her acting is fine, the music really illustrates the despair that she is feeling. Similarly, the punchy "Needle" theme drives the action scenes along with it's punchy kinetic rhythms. During the fight scene, there is a great synthesis of music and image.

  • One of the greatest scores ever written for a movie in my opinion. It represents the culmination of 40-50 years of film scoring by the maestro.

I first picked up the LP of this from a bargain bin about 25 years ago for around 50p. Boy was I glad I did. It introduced me to the music of Miklos Rozsa and this is one of his best scores. Highlights tracks for me are "The Fight" and and "Finale Epilogue" where Rozsa creates a fantasticly triumphant version of this "Love Theme"

    Just superb.

  • @2D23Dconversions many many thanks for those comments friend...delighted to hear from a fellow rozsa lover....yes this is a magnificent score....comes close to the majestic private life of sherlock holmes for sheer beauty i think.....

  • Such beautiful music...Kate Nelligan reminds me a lil bit of Sophia Loren.

  • @redbeagle100 ..thanks for your comments...yes its a wonderful score from rozsa..and yes kate nelligan is stunning...

  • nice,thanks

  • Thanks for uploading!
