hey mate.I had snap my achilis tendon when i was playing soccer,i had my operation on the 5th of january, after of my operation the doctor put me the cast with my foot donw for 3 weeks.after againg the doctor and change me with new cast very much like yours. this time with my foot up 10 degree, for 2 weeks.and i when againg to see the doctor,& they take off my cast and they give me a boot for 3 weeks, after that they told me that start doing fisio. do you think is that anough?
@garotinho1108 It's difficult for me to say if it is "enough" since I don't know how much you weigh, how fit you were before and what your current pain levels are like now.
I would say that if your doctor has tried this protocol with numerous patients before you, it's likely to be successful, but I also know that doctors will have different protocols across the planet. :)
I am lucky enough to have torn BOTH tendons. First was last april, and the right foot was this may. I opted for surgery the first time and cast this time. Surgeon recommended surgery but after research i decided not to go under the knife. Will let you know how it goes
How was the healing process? This just happened to me. I'm an EMT, and I was on my way home from work, and came up on a car that had flipped over. Mine ruptured when I was running across the highway to help the motorist ,that was trapped. Luckily he was ok,but unfortunately for me I had surgery the next day. Now I'm off for 3 months. My cast comes off towards the end of the month, adn then I get to wear the big boot...Ugh!
@missinvisible1 Hello. I'm sorry to hear of your injury. What an amazing story! As for my healing process, it has gone pretty well. This in jury is 90%+mental. Stay positive and systematic in your approach to healing and you will notice the time passing by. Sure, some days can be tough, but keep your eye on the prize and you'll make it! :)
@CyberCacique1 I agree on the mental part.I'm having a hard time with not being able to just go and do what I need to do for myself. Thanks for the reply!
I really feel for anybody with achilles problems. Mine did not rupture but the attachment point with the heal bone calcified over causing bad pain. It was the most painful thing I have ever had done. It was horrible and feel for anybody who goes thru anything like this .Good luck to everybody.
God bless you man. My left Achilles has been tight and giving me trouble for about a month. My doctor said stretch my calves, but I've been remiss in doing so. Seeing what you're going through is really going to make me stretch it. Thanks so much for posting this video. By the way, from your T-Shirt, I think we're both in the same state.
Hey I'm a 15 year old male and I got sugery on my achilies 3 weeks ago and I'm currently in the cast in the vid. I'm getting it taken off in 2 days and put in a walking boot and the process of physical therapy will start. I'm a gymnast so do you think I'll be good by may or June or mabe even October ?
I just got my boot after being in a cast for 4 weeks, i'm going on a trip in three weeks, the goal is to go with out crutches, do you think that might be possible?
If it were ME, I would have been unable to travel ESPECIALLY on an airplane. Yikes! You will still need to elevate your leg and any long periods of keeping your leg beneath the level of your heart will produce swelling or at least it would have in me.
This is an injury you want to make sure you are patient with and realize that things will be MUCH different for the next year.
Believe me. I was a VERY impatient person before this injury. :)
so i love basketball to and my injury happen when i was playing , i jump and i felt like a cramp on my gastrius muscle but i knew that it was a serius injury . i saw you vid of the atrophy of you leg muscle . like they say USED OR LOSSEIT .
ok one last question are you playing basket ball again or how long will it take ??
i had surgery 12 day a go and in 3 day they going to put my a cast for 4 week i like to know if after the 4 week they give a boot and how long till terapy because i was thinking of alter the 4 week with cast start terapy right away
Well, my rupture is hard to explain since I NEVER had pain & was running up/down the full court w/no issues and then BANG!!! Snap your fingers & multiply that sound by 10 & that is what I heard. I lost tension in the back of my leg & NEVER stepped back down since I knew it was NOT good. I hopped on my good leg out of the gym and into my car, drove home and then drove to the ER for the diagnosis and had surgery 4days later.
ouch!! My achilles tendon has been hurting but it isnt ruptured because i can still walk on it but i am in gymnastics and it always starts hurting!!!!
Be careful. Gymnastics can be REALLY rough on your body. Make sure to speak w/your training staff and try not to overtrain. You DO NOT want to rupture your AT especially since you do have some pain.
I NEVER had any pain in my AT prior to the rupture that came out of no where. :)
my cast is a lot bigger than yours wonder if they go by the size of the leg or if my surgeon just got happy with the wrap lol ,i see you had the blue one im jealous lol i have the ivory plain one that glows in the dark. but its colorful now, everyone was drawing on it.
@CyberCacique1 yea its pretty cool but it would have been nice if the doc would have just asked me what color i wanted than i would have had blue or orange i love the bears , even though they are not winning :P
hi i'm filipino 36, m, i had my injury on the 24th of aug but had my surgery done not until the 7th of may, same date as the portuguese, i also had a total rupture, my doctor told me that my therapy would probably start 3 mos after my surgery, i'm going to meet my doctor on the 16th of june for him to check on my progress, i got my injury while playing tennis
HI, I ruptured my achilles on oct.5 2008 and still am recovering from this injury. while It takes a while to come back from this injury just be patient and it will get better. good luck with everything and if you have any questions as to what to expect let me know.
Ok, 1 question: I'm having a lot of pain, like feeling espasms of muscles lines, nights are almost in suffering after 2 hours sleeping... I have calcaneous pain nigths.

@rafaelreyesakinin
I was fine w/the cast. It was occasionally itchy, but overall it was just pretty stiff. :)
I started therapy one week after my cast was removed. Had my cast on for about 5weeks.

I really understand you. I'm having a long and painfull recuperation, and I'm only in the 1st both part.
so you aren't alone.
Regards.
