@TheWild10 So correct. What is unknown to many Americans is how to prepare healthy, mostly plant based foods in a way it will be well received by a family. Paula Deen keeps the heart and kidney disease research centers in business.
@TheWild10 Fact is people have been eating Southern cuisine for hundreds of years, and there wasn't an obesity epidemic until recently. She's promoting keeping an American tradition alive, getting people to actually cook FRESH foods (rather than nuke processed stuff). And more than half of her recipes aren't fried. If people are too stupid to eat in moderation and eat a variety of different things (& way more people eat fast food, processed food, and convenience food than anything she has made)
@riv4life618 then there are way bigger problems in this country that what Paula Deen is cooking. People don't eat just what Mario Batalli makes, or just what Rachael Ray makes, etc. It's ridiculous to go after her for just spotlighting a very rich part of America's cuisine history. As far as Mr. Bourdain goes, he's an unscrupulous jerk who just wanted attention. Not to mention he insults the majority of people in this country who can't afford his unrealistic lifestyle or crazy things he eats.
anthony bourdain is an arrogant jealous douche. most people didn't even know who he was before this, hmmmm makes you wonder his motives. And these reporters definitely are annoying
@riv4life618@riv4life618 uh, Kitchen Confidential is one of the best selling books of the last decade, he's had two TV shows and he makes a fortune on the lecture circuit. He was a celeb 2 years before she waddled onto the Food Network.
@riv4life618 Yes Bourdain was unknown once just like Arnold Schwarzenegger was a beginning body builder, Harry Trumann (the only person who used atomic weapons) once sold cheap suits and Martha Stewart was a single mom who started a catering business from her home. Everyone has to start from somewhere
Arrogant? He doesn't seem that way at all. Jealous? I don't think so. She had some books out a few years before he did, but his writing is much more popular. His show was also out a year or so before Paula's. Aside from that, he was a well-known professional chef long before she was. He may be a cynical asshole at times but that's just part of his charm. If anyone was trying to gain fame from the situation, it was Paula for appearing on the show.
She can't even face criticism without adding a pile of Southern Fried bullshit. It's really about time someone said something. I think we're all getting sick of "South, butter, yall, butter, southern, butter, Georgia, butter, Savannah, butter."
@jarteaga87 same here I was very slowly leaning into the screen while the one guy was trying to read Anthony's comment, and like constant stutters too! It's not bad to have a stuttering problem, or a reading problem, but don't become a news reporter or journalist! jesus.
WTH does Paula have to do with other people's health??? each individual can make his/her own choices. I don't see Burger King or McDonald's shutting down anytime soon but I sure do see people still running to it. In other words, regardless as to how unhealthy her recipes may be, she's not holding a gun to anyone's head telling them to make it and EAT IT! as for her show, recipes, books, websites ect....its called a BUSINESS!!! so she has a job and she's damn good at it.
@beautytube1 Excellent points. Some people are always looking for someone to blame for their own stupid decisions. Paula Deen doesn't make you eat biscuits and gravy.
Stop hating folks. As an adult you decide what you eat. I love that Paula shows millions how to make great food. If a dope dealer shows you how to cook up crack does that mean you go cook it up? Absolutely not! You make you own chooses. Don't hate Paula for show her talent and teaching millions
Dairy is not good for you. Just look at Paula, even with a pound of facial makeup and a fake tan, she looks like a gluttonous troll with a raging hangover.
donot knock paula deans cooking till you eat at her resturants in savannah damn great cooking i like a.b to but that was wrong to cut down a great cook
I loooooove Anthony Bourdain, but his comments make him sound like a self-righteous prick. Of course part of his appeal is that he wouldn't give a shit about my opinion or anyone else's.
So, let me get this straight: She's promoting behavior to causes the disease she hid from the public until she could make millions from promoting an expensive cure for that same illness. Wow!
And, FOX & Fools didn't touch on that, but pushed theirs heads up her butt instead? WHY? What's the corporate connection?
Ugh. I love her cooking. Her recipes are not meant to be eaten every day. Its an indulgent. At the end, she may introduce all these recipes, but we are the people should take personal responsibility on what we eat and how we prepare food. I love Paula. #Getbetter
@redd1911 - the difference is that you NEVER see bordain encouraging people to smoke while on a pharmeceutical drug company's payroll that happens to sell lung cancer fighting pills.
@Keyscool. I agree. I'll let you know. I shag guys like him all the time. Fixed News likes to have pretty girls and pretty boys as eye candy. As we all know, the hottest men are all gay
I figured FAUX NEWS would have her on. They think all that healthy eating and healthy lifestyle is for them LIBERALS. Her cooking style is very southern and since most southerns are republican Fox took advantage of that.
Paula Deen skates carefully around all issues raised by her critics and uses her folksy charm as usual to downplay the criticism. I was a former loyal fan of Mrs.Deens not for her shamefully unhealthy cooking, but for her charm and character. It now however seems that Mrs.Deen is a sell out to the highest bidder and wants to turn her loyal fans into future customers, her next endorsement deal is with Lipitor! Check out Fire Paula Deen group on facebook for the truth behind the scandal.
I have 3 of Paula's books and the recipes I've tried are good, but I don't use her reciipes every night and neither do most people I like Anthony's shows, but he is attacking only one out of many cooks/chefs who are using large quantities of ingedients that we all know are making us obese and sick. Unfortunately for Paula, she does it with a smile While some people starve for lack of food, others die from eating too much/too rich foods. It's not Paula making us eat what she cooks. We know better!
Anthony Bourdain attacks someone for "unholy connection with evil corporations"? Sounds like Anti-Capitalist Commie talk from the leftist Bourdain. Paula Deen gives to charity while Anthony Bourdain when asked by David Letterman if he gives money to charity joked that he buys crack cocaine with his money (on youtube). Boudian is an admitted drug abuser, heavy drinker and smoker. A real good example for Americans.
If Paula Deen wishes to cook in the style she likes, God bless her and let her continue. Just because she has diabetes is no reason for her to change. Keep using that butter, sugar, cream and everything else you want. We love you for it.
I for one am really disappointed w/Paula who I once adored. She just came out saying she has type 2 diabetes (not a shocker) BUT she has had it for THREE yrs & still CHOSE to cook they way she does. Now she is profitting off of it by being a spokeswoman for diabetes awareness. Is that why she came out? AND if that's not bad enough she also smokes a pack 1/2 of cigarettes a day. Is she going to be a spokeswoman for lung cancer next? Sheesh!
I don't care what Anthony Bourdain's said. Anthony's opinion doesn't matter. Paula Dean should be ashame of isn't honest with her audiences and only care about getting richer, and the same times talk about "Care," "Mama love", "Warm comfort food",... etc. Twisted way of justify her self-interest.
how can you sleep at night after making a living encouraging your viewers to cook and eat the very same food that's given you diabetes? obesity and diabetes are already huge issues in this country and especially in the south. you should take it as a moral obligation to use the huge following you have to encourage healthy living, not capitalize on one of the most pressing public health issues we've faced thus far.
@girisuarsana but she said that she doesn't eat that way all the time and she has also said that she has mentioned moderation in her show. Maybe she's telling the truth and maybe she isn't but people are soley responsible for what they put in their mouth. Most people have the common sense to know that one is not supposed to eat fried food everyday. Paula's show is about treating oneself , it is not a diet plan. Also, one of her sons already has a show about making healthy versions of her meals.
I think the big issue at hand here, is the fact that the people on this show can not read what is in front of them. I haven't heard so many slip ups in a reading since Freshman speech class.
I agree with h Bourdain 100%. Nowadays there are many ways traditional southern dishes can be prepared healthy,..and Paula knows that. Not every damn thing has to contain loads of butter, oil, sugar & salt.
@sophisticaterate Oh no, believe it or not, there's still people that does that! I wouldn't believe it either but it's funny, I still remember this was a couple months ago, I was out with a friend of mine at a fast food restaurant and this lady was upset because the cashier didn't know what the calorie content was for a chili cheese burger! Like you have to know the calorie content of a chili cheese burger to say "HEART ATTACT ON A BUN!" LOL it was funny. =D
so much hate in the comments.get a life... all you do is waste time..don't like what she has to say you don't need to watch... As for her cooking! is she coming to your house and making you eat it? nope. did she make you watch her show? no.. Should you be smart enough to know that she does that for T.V? yes. Are you? probably not. leave her alone and go do something with your life's...
@MACKATTACK1970 Paula isn't force feeding anyone. Anthony Bourdain is an arrogant pretentious hipster, if you weren't too busy slurping on your moma's cunt all day long you would realize this.
@Refused2Break it's called a luther burger and paula didn't invent it. And why should it not be featured in the food network? That channel is pretty diverse from what I can tell. Not everythinig featured in that channel is health food, trust me
@skankonwheels yea and exactly who in the right mind would eat that cheese burger with sugary donuts as buns?
Out of millions of things to cook and to show on TV she decided to go with "luther burger"... i am with Anthony Bourdain because she really does cook A LOT OF ridiculously unhealthy foods.
She only have herself to blame... now she is diagnosed with diabetes (big surprise here holy shit i didn't see that coming... at all)
@Refused2Break I think the point about this is that Paula is acknowledging what it is that she got herself into; it's the way Anthony blast it out for people to hear. The things that he said and the way he said it was just plain rude, immature and obnoxious. I was never a fan of both of them, but even I couldn't excuse that kind of behavor for any tv host, no matter what his charater is on tv. Personally, I'm proud of Paula for not making this comment bigger than it is.
@MaureenMGify she is NOT DARE to make it any bigger... because it only do more harm to her career (because obviously everyone knows it is the truth)
butter popsicle + drink butter. The truth is hard to swallow from time to time and so are unhealthy foods.
Do you really want america's future generations to be obese and eating butter popsicle / luther cheese burger instead of having a refreshing salad? Wtf kind of back water thinking is this? It's not personal it's just the inconvenience truth
@MaureenMGify really now? when people talk about eating healthy some uneducated douche bag just have to jump in and "ASSUME" that i am this and that?
i wish you are more educated to understand that there are food out there that aren't full of butter / sugar / cheese.
Example: sushi...
oh wait... you are making minimum wage and all you can afford is mc donald table scraps. You are what you eat. Just in case you haven't notice... you are a dick
@Refused2Break Hmm... now you're referring to your own pathetic life to another person. That's so sad. It's okay if you're the loser that you're saying that I am, there's no shame that you eat scraps from the floor. The economy sucks right now, I understand! It's gonna be okay, you poor poor thing, you. I'm here for you bud! Hang in there! God loves you buddy! :*}
@Refused2Break P.S. I'm not a dick, I'm a bitch, but I'm fun, can't really say the same for you. + don't know why ur being meanie on this subject; if people are stupid enough to make things that aren't good for them everyday and not in moderation then thats their fault, not anybody else. both of them eats very badly, if you ever seen Anthony's show, you'd know what I'm talking about(drink, drink). I'm chef for a grand hotel and I know not to do what these two does everyday. not stupid.
@Refused2Break who in the right mind would eat that? People that like to indulge in novelty foods once in a while. Ever tried chocolate covered bacon? It's great! It's true that the cooking presented in her show isn't health food, but it's not supposed to be! Did you know that foodnetwork has a show all about sweets? SCANDALOUS! It's called the foodnetwork not the diet channel. Many kinds of cooking styles are featured, yes even healthy ones, go watch those and take the cucumber out of your ass
@Refused2Break "She only has herself to blame" Why even make that comment it's not like she is blaming anyone else. It's almost like you find joy in her misfortune. Do you believe that she is to blame for other people's health problems? Did you know a guy sued mcdonalds once because he blamed it for his obesity? Are you on the side of such people? Also, bourdain is known for his love of street food, half of it which is fried. I watch his show :)
It's her indulgent cooking style that made her popular in the first place, she was giving the audience what they wanted and it's kind of funny and sad that it has now backfired right on her face. That's the thing about fame, screw up and they will turn on you like rabid dogs.
So because she hasn't met Bourdain or cooked for him, that somehow falsifies his statements? Which ones? The one about one of her making dishes like a hamburger with donuts for buns? She does. The one about her using lots of unhealthy ingredients? She does. The one in which she should've known she'd get diabetes? Well, she should have. This is just typical misdirection by someone who can't accept valid criticism in an honest manner.
@Nightscream72 Valid criticism? It's one thing to criticize the unhealthiness of her cooking but he also attacked her character. He also said her food sucks but I doubt he has made any of her recipes.
"Valid criticism? It's one thing to criticize the unhealthiness of her cooking but he also attacked her character."
His criticisms are valid.
"He also said her food sucks but I doubt he has made any of her recipes."
Yeah, because you really need to prepare and eat a hamburger topped with a fried egg and pieces of bacon in between two donuts before you're permitted to exhibit an aesthetic reaction to it. Sure.
So what? Did he portray it as something his viewers should eat, like her donut burger? Does it represent the sort of addictive lifestyle that leads to diabetes? No. He was sampling the food eaten by a tribe of bushmen in Namibia while visiting that country as part of his travels depicted on "No Reservations", simply to be polite to his hosts (which is a rather open-minded and educational gesture on his part), and declared it the "worst meal of his life". Your analogy is false.
@Nightscream72 well you brought up aesthetics, but whatever. As for the donutburger, SO WHAT?! A donut burger is not a gateway drug. It was not the first and it won't be the last time that such over indulgent food is featured in the food network and nothing should change that. Would you have such shows banned? What's next, fast food restaurants? Alchohol prohibition? As one user commented "What about personal responsibility?"
@Nightscream72 And you do have a right to your opinion but why call her irresponsible? She isn't responsible for the actions of anyone else. Would you sue her if cooking her food gave you a health problems?
Responsibility can be SHARED, especially when you're talking about the exchange of information between an influential public figure and those prone to being influenced by her. Irresponsibility on her part does not preclude the same on the part of those influenced by her. As for suing her, I already commented on the notion of using the power of the law to ban, regulate or sue for healthy food: I'm against it. Government doesn't need to be in our lives more than it is.
@Nightscream72 I don't know, I mean celebs can be influential but to a point. Paris hilton did a burger commercial once and it may have increased the sells but I doubt she influenced the number of times people went to that burger joint or the number of burgers they ate in one sitting. Many people in the south eat like paula but not all of them are fat because some of them are active and practice portion control.
@Nightscream72 And Bourdain may be open minded and educated when it comes to bushmen but his hobby of criticizing other celebrity chefs is very immature. It's one thing to criticize their cooking but he also disses their personalities and appearance. And the food he eats in his travels isn't all that healthy either. Sure, you can argue that he doesn't eat that way all the time but the same can be said about paula. Actually, she did say that.
Hypocrite, Paula Deen. You ought be ashamed of yourself. I watched you ONCE. "Hey, Ya'll, first you take this stick of butter", and I changed the channel. You, Paula Deen, are an idiot and a hypocrite and has no business being on the airways.
@Whatever51501 Hypocrite, yeah, she might be one of those. Because Anthony is a better example of person who should be on tv with all of the health food he's been eating on his show, plus the booze and then the booze and... oh yeah, the booze. But yeah, Paula Deen ought to be ashamed of herself. Got ya. ;)
I'm Diabetic, I've watched Paula's cooking shows and I love the type of food she prepares. If you know how to manage your diet, you can eat her cooking in moderation and enjoy the flavorful dishes. People are quick to criticize, but McDonalds, Starbucks, Peets Coffee and places like Red Robin promote foods that are higher in saturated fats, cholesterol and sodium that Paula's cooking. If you're eating at those places you have no room to call her names, you're making worse choices.
The guy reading that first Bourdain quote could not have fucked it up more.

A real good example for Americans.

how can you sleep at night after making a living encouraging your viewers to cook and eat the very same food that's given you diabetes? obesity and diabetes are already huge issues in this country and especially in the south. you should take it as a moral obligation to use the huge following you have to encourage healthy living, not capitalize on one of the most pressing public health issues we've faced thus far.
girisuarsana 1 month ago
@girisuarsana but she said that she doesn't eat that way all the time and she has also said that she has mentioned moderation in her show. Maybe she's telling the truth and maybe she isn't but people are soley responsible for what they put in their mouth. Most people have the common sense to know that one is not supposed to eat fried food everyday. Paula's show is about treating oneself , it is not a diet plan. Also, one of her sons already has a show about making healthy versions of her meals.
harry911tk 1 month ago 6

skankonwheels 1 month ago
@skankonwheels yea and exactly who in the right mind would eat that cheese burger with sugary donuts as buns?
Out of millions of things to cook and to show on TV she decided to go with "luther burger"... i am with Anthony Bourdain because she really does cook A LOT OF ridiculously unhealthy foods.
She only have herself to blame... now she is diagnosed with diabetes (big surprise here holy shit i didn't see that coming... at all)
Refused2Break 1 month ago
@Refused2Break I think the point about this is that Paula is acknowledging what it is that she got herself into; it's the way Anthony blast it out for people to hear. The things that he said and the way he said it was just plain rude, immature and obnoxious. I was never a fan of both of them, but even I couldn't excuse that kind of behavor for any tv host, no matter what his charater is on tv.

SCANDALOUS! rickmanization 1 month ago 2
@Refused2Break "She only has herself to blame" Why even make that comment it's not like she is blaming anyone else. It's almost like you find joy in her misfortune.
Nightscream72 1 month ago

"Valid criticism? It's one thing to criticize the unhealthiness of her cooking but he also attacked her character."
His criticisms are valid.
"He also said her food sucks but I doubt he has made any of her recipes."
Yeah, because you really need to prepare and eat a hamburger topped with a fried egg and pieces of bacon in between two donuts before you're permitted to exhibit an aesthetic reaction to it. Sure.
Nightscream72 1 month ago
@Nightscream72 Did you know anthony bourdain ate warthog anus once?
harry911tk 1 month ago
Nightscream72 1 month ago
@Nightscream72 well you brought up aesthetics, but whatever. As for the donutburger, SO WHAT?! A donut burger is not a gateway drug. It was not the first and it won't be the last time that such over indulgent food is featured in the food network and nothing should change that. Would you have such shows banned? What's next, fast food restaurants? Alchohol prohibition? As one user commented "What about personal responsibility?"
harry911tk 1 month ago
Her food is not indulgent. It's disgusting. And I don't have to liken it to drugs or call for banning it in order to express this.
Nightscream72 1 month ago 20
@Nightscream72 And you do have a right to your opinion but why call her irresponsible? She isn't responsible for the actions of anyone else. Would you sue her if cooking her food gave you a health problems?
harry911tk 1 month ago
Responsibility can be SHARED, especially when you're talking about the exchange of information between an influential public figure and those prone to being influenced by her. Irresponsibility on her part does not preclude the same on the part of those influenced by her. As for suing her, I already commented on the notion of using the power of the law to ban, regulate or sue for healthy food: I'm against it. Government doesn't need to be in our lives more than it is.
Nightscream72 1 month ago

MaureenMGify 1 month ago
I'm Diabetic, I've watched Paula's cooking shows and I love the type of food she prepares. If you know how to manage your diet, you can eat her cooking in moderation and enjoy the flavorful dishes. People are quick to criticize, but McDonalds, Starbucks, Peets Coffee and places like Red Robin promote foods that are higher in saturated fats, cholesterol and sodium that Paula's cooking. If you're eating at those places you have no room to call her names, you're making worse choices.
