i belive that there is no way of proving an afterlife exists just as there is no way of disproving it. All we can do is just live for the here and now, im not gonna let the possibility of an after life affect the way i live here and now, its not a risk worth taking for an ideal that has no proof. im an evolutionist and base my beliefs on science for example when the body dies the brain will no longer be able to produce thoughs or generate a consiousness so in theory we will no longer exist.
this guy is an interesting an clearly intelligent guy and i could listen to him all day. i would also like to add that i have tried various drugs including lsd and mushroom, and have had many common experiences to what he is describing i am also very much in agreement to the idea that the government is controlling to the individual, also the idea that religion is another form of control. But part of me does just think, maybe he has a few too many drugs and lost the plot a little bit.
@juren669 religion can be used for both good and bad just like atheism. atheist governments use atheism to make people consider them the higher power and to convince them there is no afterlife so they will fear death. religions have done many good things. if you read more into jesus you'll see he was a man of compassion, love and care for everything living. he even once said he pitied an ant for when he looked in its eyes he saw god. the question is was jesus really the son of god?
@ultradumbass religion has good intentions i agree with that statement i think the values that it promotes are a good way in which to live your life. but the problem is with religion is that it causes a divide between people and this evenually will always lead to war. think of every war in history also terrorism they are all caused by religion. humanity would be better off without it most people of intelligence would agree with that.
@juren669 wars are started for economic reasons not religious. i know of very few wars in history started over religion. even the crusades was not a religious war, that's just a myth. it started because in the 7th century the muslims raided greece and attacked navies and began weakening western europe. and in 711 moors invade the iberian peninsula, they were nearly conquering the byzantines and in 1071 at menzikert they captured the king so urban 2 united all forces.
@juren669 pope urban 2 was at first willing to be diplomatic but knowing that if the byzantine empire fell so would the rest of europe asked for volunteers to help them on a military crusade not religious. the only reason they invaded the holy land was because they had unexpected success. they besieged nicae on may 5 1097, conquered it on june 19 then with peter the hermit fought and won dorylaeum then antioch, followed by jerusalem and ascalon and managed to keep jesuralem until 1187.
@ultradumbass i see your point not every war is religious but to be honest i should have stated my comment earlier a little more specific i was reffering more so to modern times, such as the conflict in isreal. terrorist organisations such as he the ira, al queda, the past is dead and gone my friend its time for he human race to move forward and leave religion behind and make decisions based on logic and reason.
@juren669 what about the soviet union? they were a notorious atheist place that were known to destroy religious buildings and sent thousands, perhaps millions of people into the gulags based on their religious beliefs. so i don't think it matters whether or not one believes. and believing in a religion doesn't make one less logical. atheists claim people are in blind faith there is a god, not true, there is evidence and this can be reversed to say atheists have blind faith that there is no god.
@ultradumbass whatever way you wanna put it or whatever point you bring up, the simple fact is that eventually books such as the bible, quaran and all other religious text will be on the fiction shelf with other books such as harry potter and lord of the rings in a couple hundred years. you are correct in your statement that atheists cannot disprove the existance of a god, put if you wanna up it like that you cannot disprove the existance of santa claus, or the easter bunny can you ?
@juren669 no dude santa clause was real. read on wikipedia. he was named st. nicholas born 270 AD and died on december 6 343. as for the bible, the earlier parts of the bible were never intended to be true. even jesus didn't believe the bible stories were true and even told people not to rely on texts to guide them. this was what offended the high priest and later resulted in his crucifixion. only the so called new revelation is expected to be taken more seriously, the rest is more about morals.
@juren669 also i doubt that religious views will die off. atheism is not any stronger than it was prior to the 1950's. it is just that atheists are not persecuted like they use to be so they are more open to talk about their views, so is is more atheists have built their own community while before then people kept that to themselves out of fear that the person they are talking to could be a fanatic. the interesting thing about christianity unlike most religions will be explained next paragraph.
@juren669 in christianity everything varies by group ie. lutherans, catholics, proestants and sometimes by church. there are 100 interpretations of hell ranging from eternal torture, to death or to isolation, some think ti is symbolic. just as some christian groups think satan is physically real while others don't. some support a god who creatred science while some are pure evolutionists. i know of a guy who used to go to church then became an atheist saying if god is real he'll be forgiven.
@juren669 i made a lot of typos there but my fingers are trembling like crazy today probably due to the cold. but the real question is do you support an afterlife? there is growing evidence that the afterlife and the paranormal may in fact be more normal than people think.
I've been trying to find a way to get in touch with Graham. I went to his website and sent an email, but I did not hear anything back. I am curious when he will be having any upcoming conferences in the midwest.
everyone listen to Deejay he has obviously died and knows ALL...who the hell knows but it is interesting..come on guys..death is the exact opposite lol
I know he's referring to the myths of other cultures about the afterlife ....but there's the one thing I don't really agree with. He makes it seem like death is a terrifying, nightmarish thing ...and its the exact opposite, we do judge ourselves and face our in our inner demons but not in the over-dramatized, fear-based way he's describing. That's ridiculous.
He says that your afterlife contains a ceremonie of judgement if your heart ways to heavy of sins and not having loved. You could and repeat could face extermination of your soul. If you have learned it will be different.
Sorry but I don't believe that for a second because what that implies is that we're wrong in being who we are in each life time. There's no right or wrong, that's a concept of duality. We are who we are, before incarnating we choose and its chosen of what we experience in each incarnation. There's no such thing as mistakes, we make choices because of free will. Whichever choice we make thus we follow that path. We're not wrong in making any choices, therefore there's no need for 'extermination"
Especially when that is seen in the broadest perspective. People are normally born with a sense of good and bad. Emphatie plays a huge part in our treatment of other humans or animals.
Nobody is sure what happens after death. However i do feel that there is wrong choice and a good choice.
Humanity has seen too many evil choices.
Saying we are not wrong in any of our choices acquits Rapists, Murderers, Child molestors, Serial killers. I can't agree with you...
@united4life7777777 I have felt guilty in the past, only because others made me feel that way, not because I felt that way naturally. Guilt comes from insecurity, from not being confident enough in ourselves or in the choices we make. As I said a year ago, we make choices and those choices are not to be judged by others. If a choice I made feels "wrong" on a personal level, then it was wrong ...but no one else has the right to judge that decision.
I agree with you up to a point. Once you start harming others and being judged it's fair game in my opinion. I agree though that if you are not hurting anyone or anything, people don't have the right to try and make you feel guilty or judge you. Having said that, I totally disgree with your statement of "there's not such thing as right or wrong".
For example in my opinion killing a baby is wrong, not matter what the situation is.
@united4life7777777 Of course that decision wouldn't be a good one to make, but again ....that's on a personal level. I don't judge others by the decisions they make because it's not my place to judge them. Now that's not to say that I feel it's personally okay to murderer another human being. We all have the right to live, but we also have the God-given right to make our own decisions and live with those consequences. We all have lessons to learn, and we all choose our paths to take.
i belive that there is no way of proving an afterlife exists just as there is no way of disproving it.
