I had surgery a bit over two weeks ago, and I'll only have to wear this post-op brace for about 6 months. (or less, if i'm lucky :) )
When i started researching scoliosis i was really surprised about all this bracing for years before having surgery. I live in Enlgand so I don't know if it's just more common in the U.S., but I just did physiotherapy exercises to control my curve, which seemed to work.
@oxcxo what kind of surgery did you undergo? i also have scoliosis and it hurts like hell. my curve is less than 20 degrees. i'd love to go through surgery if only it was cheap and is guaranteed safe and effective.
@tintinbofin I'm sorry that it hurts so much, I didn't really notice mine :/
I'm not sure about the exact details but I had spinal fusion. It's been about 6 months and I feel good :) There is a small chance of complications and I did get very scared before my operation, but I just had to think sensibly and remind myself that any complications are extremely rare.
You're right that it's expensive, but we decided that it would be worth it because my curve would've just gotten worse :)
Im trying to think of what the actress who plays the mum is called... that way we can fin out what the film is called... i know i know her from somewhere... can anyone else think???????
and As I could see, the front and back upper part is bulging! I thought it would be harmless to see , but even the neck ring is really up to the chin! i thought that it would be a little lowered, I am totally going to be teased in school! :(
Is having this that bad? Is this really visible under your shirt? Like she said, It's going to ruin my life nooo!!! :(
Well, It's cool, For now, Since it's summer, I'm safe from my classmates! :) But when I went to the mall, I had to hide between the stalls because people kept on staring! But later I found out that you can hide the brace by wearing a jacket :) Yeah, Checked the site and found many stories! But! Most of them ended up with surgeries(Gulp) So I guess wearing A brace is okay to prevent my curves (10 and 13 degrees which is not very visible) to become visible and to also prevent a scar on my back :)
DONT WEAR MILWAUKEE!! THEY ARE OUT OF FASHION, your doctor must be from the middle ages. There are braces unnoticeable and more efficient since the 1970's
don worry!!..it wont hurt a single bit..if your friends disturb you..that means they are not your real friends..real friends will not disturb you but instead encourage you and they will help you with however they are capable of!!!..so dont worry about the brace being bulging out!!..just be yourself and everything will be alright!!! :D
why bnot try a spinecor barce...try and find someone who fits it because i have one and they dont make your muscles weak and you cant see them at all through clothes
Wore a milwaukee brace for 4 years until spinal surgery. I can soooo relate to the feelings Jessie expresses at home and school. When I wore one it was leather and every night my mum had to apply metho to toughen my skin from the rubbing. 30 years on and really no significant changes in the design though material seems more skin friendly.
This type of brace is helpful, but it is definitely uncomfortable. I wore one for 20 months. We did it when the hip saddle part was leather and the chin pad and back of head part was also leather. My skin eventually sort of melted into the leather. I could not tell where I ended and it began. Do what you can to help the person who wears one to forget that they do. They will appreciate that, I think.
you will be like an highroad !!! don't worrryyyyy:)
