It's ironic that the last surviving Golden Girl, Betty White, was the oldest of all four of them. But yes Estelle Getty was an amazing actress she may be gone but she will live in our hearts and always be alive as the witty, sassy, Sophia everyone loves.
What made this show so special is that most of us can see ourselves in the characters or we saw our friends in the characters. I remember watching this show in the 80s and early 90s when I was just a boy and I thought it was hysterical, even though I didn't get all the jokes. The show reminds me of a female version of the movies Grumpy and Grumpier Old Men. I've always felt this show made me able to better relate to seniors. It has to be weird to still think and feel young but not be.

This morning (Monday) I got to work very late, because I was enjoying a dream of Bea and I singing a whole song together...and I woke up happy and impressed with how wonderful it was...and then on the couch at my parent's house tonight I read the newspaper lying there next to me, and saw she had died on Saturday. Honey, people don't die from dementia. Although she had dementia she died from old age or what they call "natural causes", meaning her internal organs just shut down for no aparent reason. It can happen any time when one is over 80. Very touching video.
But didn't the brain, which controls the organs and everything else, stop working, which is dementia, or alzheimers,, hence the shut down of the organs
It´s great to see a young man knowing this great show. For me who could be your father the "Golden Girls" sharpened my own sense of humour and made me lose my fear of age.

I couldn't believe that she passed away just four months after I became a fan of the show recently when a friend started to buy the DVDs, he told me: "u have to watch it!". He made me watch and by the first episode I was completely in love with it. They came in such a good time for me, when I was in the edge of killing myself for personal problems. But they made me laugh, the made me learn a lot of things I didn't knew.

I'm a 30 year old black dude (funny huh) and I love that show I have all 7 seasons on dvd and when I found out that Estelle died it was almost the same hurt as losing a family member. Golden girls is a nice show, I think the way it was written was really ahead of it's time.

omg she was like 3 days away from being 85 thats sad i wish she could have lasted untell then. but i just started watching golden girls like 4 or 3 months ago and it's my fav show now mostly because my mom told me my great grandma and her used to watch it and i kinda knew my great grandma and ok this is going to sound wierd but i feel the show gives me a conection to my grandma in some way. i can't even remember my great grandma's face because i was 5 or 6 when she passed R.I.P estelle getty

i was so sad when she passed. i was actually visiting my grandma sophia in the hospital when i heard about it. i was one of the biggest fans, although it was out way before my time. RIP ESTELLE :[

I loved her and the Golden Girls.
I know it's a old show but it was funny and I would watch it when I was 13.
I'm 16 and I still love to watch it.

Sweet tribute, especially from someone so young. You can quote the Golden Girls? Yep, any doubts that you are gay have vanished! :) I've analyzed the show quite a bit and have likened it to an 80's version of Sex and the City, except with senior citizens. And the city is Miami.
Don't worry, Estelle Getty will never truly die. Sofia Petrillo will invade our living rooms for generations to come.

I couldn't believe that she passed away just four months after I became a fan of the show recently when a friend started to buy the DVDs, he told me: "u have to watch it!". He made me watch and by the first episode I was completely in love with it. They came in such a good time for me, when I was in the edge of killing myself for personal problems. But they made me laugh, the made me learn a lot of things I didn't knew.

You are so nice for posting such a heart-felt tribute. Estelle was a wonderful actress. Before Golden Girls, she was in the Broadway production of "Torch Song Trilogy" playing the part of Harvey Fierstein's mother and was performing in the LA production when she auditioned for Golden Girls.

I'm a 30 year old black dude (funny huh) and I love that show I have all 7 seasons on dvd and when I found out that Estelle died it was almost the same hurt as losing a family member. She was definately the staple of that show and it won't be the same watching that show knowing that she is no longer with us....sad day. Thanx for sharing your feelings.
