not bad shooting....considering all that wind & such a light barreled rifle ,shooting a massive round 50/90....how did your shoulder look the next morning...hahaha.
you can see why the buffalo hunters, used a 16+ pound rifle..the barrel looking more like a axle,on there horse drawn, supply wagon................
its a shame your not into black powder rifle shooting....i been shooting for 40years ....i reckon your a natural...i see a lot of potential.
hairymark oooh 3'' slugs are nothing to joke about ,I used to shoot a 45 70 Shiloh sharps but hand loaded 450 grain cast pure lead bulletsand used3f powder for higher velocity and cleaner burn with a measured 85 grains ,didn't kick bad at all ,ONLY because I added about 2 or 3 lbs. of lead into buttstock
@fullstrutn I'm not really into old firearms.I think the 50-90 refers to the round, the rifle is custom. It was VERY windy and a little over 200 yards.I can shoot 3" slugs all day and that 50-90 was kickin' My ass.
@fullstrutn Sharps created the .50-90 in the late 1800's to specifically hunt Buffalo. It also came in .50-100 and .50-110. The round is considered "obsolete" now a days.
But, to reference your comment, all 3 were created by the Sharps Maunfacturing Company in or around the 1870's I believe.
I forgot to say,i want to buy a Sharps too.Till now i own a small-caliber .36 Rifle,a cal.45 Cavalery Carbine,a heavy cal.45 Plains-Pistol and a collection of Derringers. But none can match with the 50-90 Bison Rifle. But its too expensive for me atm.But in future i will buy one.
I realy love the Sharps Rifle.Since i first saw it in the Movie "Quigly, the Australian" i loved it.
Look the Size of the Cartridges and the loading Mechanism.
Billy Ray Dixon,a famous Wild-West Guy,killed an Red-Indian on a distance of 1400 Meters. He shoot him of the Horse, this lead to the escape of the other Indians in a Battle.
It is definitely not a Sharps; it looks like an Winchester 1885 High Wall. Also it is called a Buffalo Rifle. However the last herd of plains bison was shot in 1884 so the high wall came too late.
That rifles the beauty and the beast rolled into one

@fullstrutn 85 grains in a 45-70? you would be pouring powder out on the floor.

Look at 1:46 you can see the exposed hammer of the 1885 high wall.
The Sharps 1874 had a side hammer
The Sharps 1875 had a side hammer
The Sharps 1878 had a striker
