While I have my doubts, I am not going to disingenuously say that Obama is wasting money.

I never said the plan was going to be a successful one, only that there is a method to the madness that is going through Obama's mind. If we are lucky, our economy benefits from all this spending down the road, so we have lots of new wealthy citizens who can pay for it. It's amazing how much taxes can add up over millions of citizens. Also, since the value of money is arbitrary, and a nation of people is a tangible commodity, we can just stay in debt as long as our global influence allows us.
and by global influence, I mean other countries rely on us to import their goods and support their local economies. If we struggle they struggle. It's a risky long term investment, but it is in their best interest: we have a seemingly endless supply of consumers wanting to buy cheap useless shit from China, after all.
But the problem is that the only thing preventing you from going under is the dollar. And lets face it this administration with their Marie Antoinette spending has not exactly enforced a strong dollar. I give you 5 years at most after that the usa will collapse.
Didn't I already mention that we have at least one tangible commodity? Money is a representation of an arbitrary value set by the government. The only reason why the dollar is seen as a global currency is because the United States and everything in it (its people, government, economy, military, goods, services, etc) has a significant enough intrinsic value to make it so. We quantify this with the Gross Domestic Product. The value of currency stands as long as the government stands.
Dollar is not valued because Americans produce super cool commodities which every one is dieing to get, but because they have monopoly over middle east's oil. They force countries to sell their oil in dollars. So if any country wants to buy oil they need to trade with America to get the dollars to buy it. Dollar is not backed up by gold or GDP, but its backed by oil ( black gold). The moment countries refuse to sell oil in dollar, Dollar will become worthless than toilet paper.
The only reason the dollar is worth the paper it is printed on, is becaues the Arabs are still accepting it for oil. They've threatened to stop, too. If that happens, our money will be worth zero.

I never said the plan was going to be a successful one, only that there is a method to the madness that is going through Obama's mind. If we are lucky, our economy benefits from all this spending down the road, so we have lots of new wealthy citizens who can pay for it. It's amazing how much taxes can add up over millions of citizens. Also, since the value of money is arbitrary, and a nation of people is a tangible commodity, we can just stay in debt as long as our global influence allows us.

It's a risky long term investment, but it is in their best interest: we have a seemingly endless supply of consumers wanting to buy cheap useless shit from China, after all.

Didn't I already mention that we have at least one tangible commodity? Money is a representation of an arbitrary value set by the government. The only reason why the dollar is seen as a global currency is because the United States and everything in it (its people, government, economy, military, goods, services, etc) has a significant enough intrinsic value to make it so. We quantify this with the Gross Domestic Product. The value of currency stands as long as the government stands.

Dollar is not valued because Americans produce super cool commodities which every one is dieing to get, but because they have monopoly over middle east's oil. They force countries to sell their oil in dollars. So if any country wants to buy oil they need to trade with America to get the dollars to buy it. Dollar is not backed up by gold or GDP, but its backed by oil ( black gold). The moment countries refuse to sell oil in dollar, Dollar will become worthless than toilet paper.
