Another classic I hope never sees a CGI remake. The puppetry in this film is amazing. I love the scene when the camera pans through the fantasy swamp. When I see that my mind tries to picture all the work that went into making that swamp feel like a real place. Although with CGI you could create something that looked far more realistic, somehow the magic would be lost.

I don't about you guys but this so called fantasy has minus battle sequences, I'm sorry. At most classic myth movies there's fighting scenes but in this movie, the people got lazy and didn't gave us those scenes.

Who WASNT scared of this as a kid? This is one of the only movies that actually chilled me to the bone when I was younger and it remains one of my all time favorites for that reason. I also love the soundtrack and the puppets, I used to think Jen was a girl haha with the long hair and the name being Jen and all.

If you ask me, CGI has now ruined the whole aspect of scary looking creatures on screen. Puppets and robots look more realistic and frightening.

I think some directors are starting to see that. All of Hollywood jumped on the CGI bandwagon (Disney even vowed to never make a traditional animated movie again at one point), and I think a backlash is coming. I think CGI has a place, but to use it for everything, entire characters, entire scenes, when the movie is not intended to be computer animated, goes too far.

@necessaryeffect 100% agreed! ill name three BIG films that wouldnt be made today without CGI. Goonies, labrynth and time bandits (and ) willow! (i know thats 4 lol). The lack of CGI made them films amazing CGI is an amazing tool. you can just look at lord of the rings to see how when (and not) to use CGI. Yet otehr films go mad and over use it (clash of the titans 2010) its such a shame :9 and now this whole 3d crap is going to ruin the art of story telling even more.

Oh my god this book was like a major part of my childhood! My sister and I ALWAYS made my dad read it to us! I definitely still have it too. The cover was about to fall off but I fixed it earlier today! Yay!
