I was just guided in a meditation to buy some beuatiful snake chrmer music. Can you recommend some authentic cd to buy? You play very beautifully by the way.
Do you press the string to the fret or just use the fret as a guide? I'm very interested in playing dilruba but my only experience with North Indian instruments is sitar. Do you think it would be a difficult switch to make?
@bluetailskink The way I have been taught is to press the string to the fret.
Switching from Sitar will require some adjustments. I estimate that it shouldn't take you more than an hour or so to get comfortable with the neck and the frets. There's no pulling on the strings to create meends though, so you'll have get used to that as well.
Bowing is another issue - that took me quite a bit longer.
@manavk one of the main problems I have with sitar is perfecting meends, especially 3 and 4 half tones. I've read that the frets are used more for a guide rather than a 'string stopper'. You play so smooth that I assumed that this was true. But for ragas with komal re do you move the eight fret down to komal re? I've never played a bowed instrument and I expect there would be difficulty in bowing. A really beautiful and I guess strange raga that I've never heard on dilruba is Marwa.

I want you to know that I am now studying from your videos and I feel much gratitude for your great skill and for sharing your videos.
I have been learning dilruba for about 2 years, but without a teacher where I live. In just the past 2 days, I have made much progress, thanks to you!
Man, since I last checked you out, you've improved a great deal. You've always been really good, but geez man, you've made some obvious strides. Plus you've just got a great tastefulness about your phrasing.
What are you using for tabla? Sounds great

nice! what raag is this?
guru8351 1 year ago
@guru8351 - I think it's supposed to be in Raag Kaafi (Mishr) . Mishr as in 'mixed' = not being strict with the rules.
