I'm not even going to lie, I listened to the begining for a few seconds and put you down as some old man desperately clinging to his hendrix blessed youth and turned the volume down, but this is actually sick.
There's so many boring covers of this song with 'jazzed up' playing and bland female vocals. I've never seen anyone come at it from a different angle.
Thanks Malosovich. I did this 2 1/2 years ago... I'm really old now 'o). As to Hendrix... I'm not much into hero worship but if I were going to give the lion's share of credit to someone on this song it would be to Bob Dylan. I guess this is all because I see myself as more of a song writer than a monster instrumentalist. I sincerely appreciate your comment. It is obvious you don't give up compliments easily and I'm glad I earned this one. Cheers and thanks again.
Sorry, Kenny, but this is the sincerest form of flattery. It is an extrapolation of the style Jimi Hendrix invented. Not that it isn't very well done!
You're right about that my friend. If you're going to extrapolate, extrapolate from the best I say. 'o) Compared to the giants of guitar we're all just goofin' around, right? I appreciate your comment. Take care.
I looked through the notes here, but didn't see a request for the chord progression through the main part of the song. Can you hook me up? I'll catch crap for saying this....but I enjoyed this better than the Hendrix vesion. I'm all about the Acoustic style. Thanks!!! 5 star, subscribed too.
thought i was having a flashback in the intro, great song great version , i gotta dig out my loop station and start playing withit soon you reminded me how much fun it can be.
Hah! Watch out for those flashbacks... actually I'd like to stay in a constant state of flashback but it takes too much dedication. Cheers and thanks.
The looper is a Boss RC-20XL and that is coupled with a Boss ME-50 Guitar Effects board. On this I used some reverb and some delay/echo. Fun toys. Thanks for asking. There are guys out there a lot better than I am but thanks for suggesting I give a lesson. I'll send you a link to a real good looper guy.
TOO COOL Bro! Love the echo and reverb and the playin is perfect man! Then you cut in and really jam this up, Nice arrangement on the vocals, clean and bluesy. Your own spin on this classic. Really cool Lance!
Wow Lance, you put a nice spin on this one. great guitar! Funny I just saw Bob do this a couple of weeks ago, times have changed, Ha! Thanks Lance, Peace...Reg
Mainly familiar with "The Wall"... I like poetic song writers and people who stretch the limits... so yep, I like Pink Floyd.. also, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Cockburn, Midnight Oil, the Talking Heads... hah! looks like all the old guys... Thanks for the question and encouragement.
All I can say is AMAZING! I've always loved the Hendrix version the most but yours has a much deeper groove to it. The effects add to the uniqueness. Your voice is kinda similar to the great Johnny Cash..! Take care!
Wow! To be mentioned in the same paragraph with those guys is more of a compliment than I would ever expect. Thanks. I'll have to do some other stuff like this I guess.
Excellent - Watchtower is one of the best songs ever written, for me at least, and I loved this arrangement. I might have to try and give it a go myself.
I feel like this is what "All Along The Watchtower" would sound like if Nirvana and Eric Clapton were to get together for some reason and collaborate on a cover of this song. Is that weird??? Great Job.
Andrew - What a nice thing to say. Getting compared to those two is pretty heavy duty and I appreciate it. Thanks for the sub as well. I'll try to keep things interesting in 2008. Have a good one.
Thanks so much AidenMayka. Sure do appreciate your dropping by. I'll have to get busy and post some more acoustic guitar stuff I guess. Real life keeps interfering with youtube these days. Best wishes. - Lance
Standing ovation!!!!! hell of a job i love how u made this your own i real fucking dig this sorry for the swear words but a cant help it THIS FUCKING ROCKS
Hey, I'm not a puritan. A few well placed expletives add emphasis. I'm very appreciative of the fact that it appears you just might watch every video I've posted on youtube. This has never happened before. You'll be a first. I am humbled. roX Thanks.
clapton is my idol. like, everything he plays i absorb. kinda like what he did with robert johnson. you are a lucky man to be that close to the festival
Thank you doolbro. I see by your favorites you like the tune. Thanks for the sub. Will try to keep it interesting. Clapton is in my town "Chicago" knocking us out as I write this. He's great. You have good taste.
ArturPawel - As a teacher you have an eye for whether or not someone enjoys what they are doing. Glad you saw it in me. I am blessed because I can go anywhere in the world and as long as I have a guitar and some drawing equipment I can be happy. Keep up your good work and thanks for the comment.
Thanks airpup. I see you have me amongst good company in your favorites... I'll try to merit the honor by coming up with some more pieces of this kind in the future. Acoustic/electronic really intrigues me.
Thanks Trev. I'll try to put up some more like this. Check out the cyberjam I did with klasek on "Old Friends". Also, I noticed you do some nice covers like "Hotel California". You may want to check out my "Elenor Rigby". Keep submitting. I'll keep watching.
Thanks very much. I'm usually hard pressed to fill requests. I just happened to know one that DevilDuck likes. I think I could have done better on this one. Some sluffed notes. But time was limited and besides, at this stage of life I go by the lyrics that Leonard Cohen wrote: "Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There's a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."
