I assume that Laputa is a name from Gulliver's travels. It is a place. An academy, if I'm not wrong. Where Swift tries to portray the absurdities of the modern overconfidence in sciences. But, i mean.. I just don't know if Laputa called themselves this way referring to Swift... <.<
