I own both they are both great guns if it were a life are death type of situation id grab my ak over my ar simply because I know my ak will always fire and never have a problem I've put over 10000 rounds threw my ak without one problem and I can't say the same for my colt ar had a few minor breaks and lots of jams
I think your choice should be made best on environment/geography. Both rifles will if you want them to work. It is also very important the your squad/buddies have interchangeable mags/parts
I'm bias against the ak47. Why? Well for one thing terrorists use it. Two, it's less accurate than a .223/5.56x45. Three, it looks like a terrorist would use it and it's actually kinda ugly.
And since I'm bias against the ak47, I'm starting to be bias against the 7.62x39.
@FlyTour69 Don't, it fires a larger cartridge, terrorists only use it because its so cheap and its appearance is irrelevant. I'm not saying your wrong, but it has its advantages.
On cable TV show, they just did a simulated assault where six defenders had AK47 and two attackers had AR15-M4. The AR15 team won and all six AK47 got killed. The AR15 won because they are easier to handle, more accurate, quicker to get onto target. One of the two guys on the AR15 team is a AK47 fan and expert. It had nothing to do with bullet size, magazine capacity, but they all carry large capacity mags. It's down to the skills of the solders and how effective the guns can get on target.
@2Phast4Rocket This is sort of why the actual North Hollywood Shootout with Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Mitsuranu armed with AK47s vs LAPD armed with AR15s is often used for the AK vs AR debate.
@oeyesea the lapd swat teams had ar 15s, but they were caught in traffic, basically the cops had to go up against 2 dudes with aks,hk91, and an m16, with 12 gauge shotguns and 9mm berretas
I want AR 10 vs AK 74 kind of reversing the usual contest. My thoughts: if I needed to arm a large group of people that AK system is great. If I needed to arm a small group of weapons competent people I tend to go back to the AR. The AK is basically foolproof. Checkout M4 Torture Test on vigilantspectre's channel & Daniels Defense M4 Torture Test & you'll see what I mean.
@wesdct if you have the money i urge you to pick up an AR15 with a 5.45x39 upper and drop in piston kit for ease of cleaning after shooting cheap corrosive stuff like 7n6
@wesdct I would try to get out and shoot several types if possible. Don't buy a gun just to have one. take time to find one that fits your shooting style and shooting needs. That said, I chose a Saiga(ak variant) for ease of use and reliability, as this rifle will be my go to gun if anything bigger than the typical home invasion comes my way. Low maintenance and already ugly so need to accessorize it like many of these ar15 guys do.
@richieblck unfortunately i wont have time to try anything out, the gun show is this weekend. but i think the AK is right for me i want something durable and reliable. i dont have to worry about cleaning it
I like both, building an AR right now, will get an ak74 in the future :) Neither is "better" than the other, they are for different purposes. My brother has an ak, love 'em both...
@bironmiller4330 Different purposes? Same purpose. Getting rounds downrange.
Any shooter worth his salt should be able to run an AR or AK whichever he is given and wherever he is in the world at whatever time and get the job done.
Give them an AR or an AK, either way, same result: Osama's still dead.
I love both rifle systems. I want to get a 22LR system and was debating between the M&P 15-22 and the GSG AK-47 22. I'm still just so torn between the two systems to START with, maybe I should just go for neither and get a 10/22 haha.
@horsevet20. It a Krebs custom. watch part 4 of these AK vs AR videos by Nutnfancy. i believe he talks about the same AK in the first minute of the video.
great stuff but, you forgot the most important point or "talking point" of all, which is: ....Ammunition!!! :) Bottom line for me when making a gun choice, is price per shot. 5.45x39 AK-74 right now is running 13 cents per shot. 223 is running 20 cents per shot. 7 cents per shot difference is huge for us average folks when buying ammo per 1000. That 70 dollars matters, because you can spend that 70 dollars toward MORE AMMO!!! :)
@bob35422 yeah bro totally.... not, did u not pay attention to the beginning of the video? 5.56/223 ballistics are horrible dude. horrible. dont fragement worth a shit. and dont tumble worth a shit. then again the 7.62 goes straight through shit as well just makes a bigger whole. give me an ak74 poison bullet ftw.
hey guys if you can help, someone please tell me what model of ak is pictured at 5:09-5:10 in this video i have a tantal sporter ak 74 variant and want to do something like that, thanks guys.
I LOVE both guns. But if i had to pick just one for survival... No doubt the ak 47. Ive NEVER had any issues with the ak. Even shooting cheap steel ammo
i have been following the nutnfancy project for a while and ive been wondering what your opinion is on airsoft for tactical scenario training and just for getting practice with a compact pistol
I also will add, I have neither had a jam in my AK, nor in my AR. Proper cleaning and maintenance will ensure your reliability, as nutnfancy said. But then again, few civilians clean their weapons properly or, in my opinion, adequately.
I have one of each. I have built on one of each, with completely new furniture, slings, optics, etc. I first bought an AK, then my AR.
My verdict: both have merit. I prefer my AR, but my AK is an equally formidable weapon. I think my AR is more refined and overall better, but my AK is a better weapon for CQB for obvious, stopping-power related reasons.
I personally take pleasure in answering "have one of each" on this question, though it is a frustrating answer.
@XxToHellAndBackxX the 400 extra bucks is well worth it. .223 is pretty cheap in america, you'll save alot of money with an ar platform and you can customize it very quickly
Hey man, aswesome video bro. I have watched 1/2 a dozen other AR vs. AK videos but it's clear in most that the person making the video has a clear bias towards one platform or the other. It's nice to have a video that looks at the data to bring the conclusions instead of the other way around :) Thanks!
ak-47 shouldn't be compared with anything, and even akm should only be compared with the very first model of M16... in any case, go with what you wanna go with. the ak frame has some good qualities and so does the ar frame... or, if you wanna keep on comparing, it's just the cold war all over again.
I am an AR owner and my roommate/good friend is an AK owner. I like my AR for the accuracy and range and my roommates AK for the stopping power. Each gun is built for a purpose and achieve their purpose. They are not built for the same purpose though. AK is meant to kill while the AR is meant to wound in combat.
If I had to pick 1 for me, I would pick my AR. Am i biased cuz I am an owner? Probably. I believe its really down to personal preference.
@nutnfancy, i love your videos and you give extremely good information.but can you do me and all of us a favor and say a little something and then get right to the point? its verry annoying to watch 5 minutes of shooting in the oppening of your videos and then about 5 minutes of talk that some times doesn't pertain to the topic. other than that, great job and keep up the good work.
I started with an AK ended up with an AR. Learned my lesson on a WASR-10. I'll give AK's another shot one day. But for now truth be told no issues with my AR no malfunctions it operates as fast is easier to clean price was great accuracy is unparalleled from anything I've compared it to.
@nutnfancy You gotta laugh at the people who can't watch more than 10 minutes of serious discussion without a naked lady on screen. My, how easy it can be to feel intelligent.
these stupid comparison's between without a doubt the finest assault rifles today is pointless, look at the armies they were designed for, the ak is rugged rifle built for a primarily conscript army, while the ar15 was built for the professional us army, the ar gets a bad rep in vietnam cause it jammed alot, well that was due to no cleaning kits being issued at first and that the rounds used a dirty ball powder, now a days ar's are very reliable weapons
GUYS GUYS hunterkiller308 is a clueless colt fucking biased shit that does not know shit about guns besides the ar-15 and the fact that he exaggerates on it to just don't talk to that lonely faggot actually listen to someone is not clueless and actually knows what he's talking about on both of the weapons
A quality AK wins they are just as accurate as an AR & the main reason why the AK wins is why risk going into a room when you can shoot through walls if u got an AK
@redfirekla even a high end AK with a milled reciver and RPK heavy barrel is not anywhere near as accurate as an mil-spec AR, you might get 3-2.5 MOA with match grade ammo.
high end AR can produce 0.5 MOA and less. ARs also have for greater recoil managment, egonomics, effective range and modularity.
you obviously dont know anything about rifles and your talking out your ass.
ARs uppers come in just about every caliber you can think of, plus 5.56 is for more lethal than 7.62x39 or 5.45
@HunterKiller308 I have a bulgarian ak 74 5.45 and with a 16x scope with the side rail mount i can easily get 2.5 moa.. ur right about higher end ARs they are a little bit more accurarate but even the smaller 5.45 aks are more lethal watch?v=-4pNAKj6e18
@HunterKiller308 The ak-74 round yaws it's known as as the poison bullet, the AR's are the same price as the bulgarian rifles from the $650 to 700 which is the same price i paid for the Saiga 308 VER 21 i could afford the AR's i just prefer AK's :-) as the video link i showed u i like the better penetrating 5.45 than the 5.56
@HunterKiller308 I'm talking about standard issued bullets the 7n6 that is in the tin can was the standard issue, the green tip ur talking about has tungsten in it, the 5.45 with tungsten will outperform the 5.56 any day out of any barrel length.. but glad u like the overpriced 5.56 keep buying it when i get 1080 rnds of 5.45 for $129 shipped.. u easily pay double for a round that gets outperformed. I have both the 5.45 on hogs does just as much damage as a 308 win look it up
@HunterKiller308 that cavities in the 5.56 are not that big have you seen ballistic tests? and in urban area material damage is the absolute best but unless it's more open then 5.56
@redfirekla the truth is the first few shots will be about equal in accuarcy, however the ar type rifles have a tighter grouping after sustained fire, plus the ar has a better range, yes the ar is more prone to jamming if not taken care of, in vietnam ar's jammed cause they weren't cleaned and used a dirty ball powder, the ak was built to be more rugged since russia's armies throughout history have been primarily conscripts with limited training, u really want 2 shoot thru a wall pick up an m14
@packr72 I have a Saiga 308 that is just as accurate as m14 it has the vepr thicker receiver and 22 inch national match barrel it came stock it's the Saiga 308 ver 21 i'm stating that good quality AK's are accurate they are in the same ball game as the AR, the ar's accuracy advantage is very minor not enough to make a difference for what both rifles were designed for..
@HunterKiller308 the overall design of the ar series actually helps reduce muzzle climb and recoil, from muzzle to stock the rifle is straight with no dip like the ak or m14
I don't own either of these or any firearm, but If I had to take one it would be ak AK47. Why? Because you can toss it in the sand, dirt, mud, etc and it will still fire. It all really does just depend on who you are. I would rather have both than one since you can use the Ar as a sniper if you need to and the AK as and under 250 yard rifle.
@Virk1997 and a full auto AK wouldnt be illigal?, select fire weapons ARE legal depending on the state and if your willing to pay the $10,000 extortion fee
@banddude121 nope its a 3 round burst weapon because the military had issues with overheating so they made it a 3 round burst because the it has time to cool down. they also did it because its not accurate after the third shot. they did the same with the m4 in SOME cases
i would pick the AR-15 because the AK is very unstable gun when you shoot cause it goes up when u shoot and u can not keep it under control but the AR-15 i have shot and i can keep it under control and i am 14
I love your vids man this is actually the one that got me started watching your channel and now I carry a knife and a flashlight and my gun everywhere i go and personally I like a piston AR
@MrDarkwolf1995 Yeah piston is just so much less maintenance in the field. I'm not knocking DI at all I love my DI gun. just for run and gun situations where ya shooting 100's of rounds he ease of cleaning is allot nicer
Great video. Well informed, unbiased, and honest. Both great weapon systems and both withstood the test of time. Both weapons constantly go head to head and will continue to do so for a very very long time. Like the video.
They BOTH are awesome, as loong as you know how to use YOUR system. Stop bitch'in cause we aren't fighting each other. Our enemy is he who takes our freedoms away. "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keeep and bear arms is, at a last resort, to protect themselves against tranny in government." Thomas Jefferson
The best way to decide which is better for you... if you were to wake up to a coutry invading us, or the zombie apocalypse, and you had to run and dish out to the woods or something and you didn't know when you'd be back... which would you grab? For me its simple
In order to obtain reliable fragmentation from a standard .556 NATO round at engagements over 50 yards, an AR-15 must have at least a 16" barrel (excluding flash hider/muzzle brake) to ensure constant velocities of 2500+fps.
not gonna lie, i would stand up and defend the AR anyday i love it, but the reliability of the AK is ridiculous...... all in all there has to be a bridge in the gap between the two
@theTicklemehellmo first don't guess my age asshole 2nd leave me alone we all have our own opinions (mines better) any way disregard that ar-15 or ak 47 ok...
Why not just get them both!?

But for now truth be told no issues with my AR no malfunctions it operates as fast is easier to clean price was great accuracy is unparalleled from anything I've compared it to.

these stupid comparison's between without a doubt the finest assault rifles today is pointless, look at the armies they were designed for, the ak is rugged rifle built for a primarily conscript army, while the ar15 was built for the professional us army, the ar gets a bad rep in vietnam cause it jammed alot, well that was due to no cleaning kits being issued at first and that the rounds used a dirty ball powder, now a days ar's are very reliable weapons

@MrDip02 you are compairing a top of the line AK to a mediocre AR
AKs are not combat accurate for taking headshots at extended ranges, and thats usually the only target one presents when firing from cover
ill take the weapon with better ergos, accuracy, modularity, range and recoil manageability, lethality, and battery of operations
PROVE ME WRONG BITCH,all you got is "ak is more reliable" and thats not even true this day in age
HunterKiller308 1 month ago
Damn, that's one beautiful AK. Same with that AR.
RockerRocco1 1 month ago
A quality AK wins they are just as accurate as an AR & the main reason why the AK wins is why risk going into a room when you can shoot through walls if u got an AK
redfirekla 2 months ago
@redfirekla even a high end AK with a milled reciver and RPK heavy barrel is not anywhere near as accurate as an mil-spec AR, you might get 3-2.5 MOA with match grade ammo.
high end AR can produce 0.5 MOA and less. ARs also have for greater recoil managment, egonomics, effective range and modularity.
you obviously dont know anything about rifles and your talking out your ass.
ARs uppers come in just about every caliber you can think of, plus 5.56 is for more lethal than 7.62x39 or 5.45
HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 I have a bulgarian ak 74 5.45 and with a 16x scope with the side rail mount i can easily get 2.5 moa.. ur right about higher end ARs they are a little bit more accurarate but even the smaller 5.45 aks are more lethal watch?v=-4pNAKj6e18
redfirekla 2 months ago
@redfirekla 5.45 is no where as lethal as 5.56
5.45 is a crude knock off of the 5.56
the 5.45 wont fragment causing cavitation like the 5.56
the differance between 2.5 MOA and -0.5 MOA is HUGE
but if all you can afford is an AK74 im sure it will work for you
HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 The ak-74 round yaws it's known as as the poison bullet, the AR's are the same price as the bulgarian rifles from the $650 to 700 which is the same price i paid for the Saiga 308 VER 21 i could afford the AR's i just prefer AK's :-) as the video link i showed u i like the better penetrating 5.45 than the 5.56
redfirekla 1 month ago
@redfirekla poison bullet? LOL suck up that commie propaganda
yeah the 5.45 yaws
the 5.56 yaws and FRAGMENTS creating multiple wound tracks and greater cavitation
5.45 does NOT penetrate better than 5.56, the 74 rounds they used in that video were 7n6 steel core, the 5.56 rounds they used were standard 55gr
you put a green tip up against a 7n6 and the green tip will have better penetration
and damage on tissue matters alot more than damage of material in a combat loading
HunterKiller308 1 month ago
@HunterKiller308 I'm talking about standard issued bullets the 7n6 that is in the tin can was the standard issue, the green tip ur talking about has tungsten in it, the 5.45 with tungsten will outperform the 5.56 any day out of any barrel length.. but glad u like the overpriced 5.56 keep buying it when i get 1080 rnds of 5.45 for $129 shipped.. u easily pay double for a round that gets outperformed. I have both the 5.45 on hogs does just as much damage as a 308 win look it up
redfirekla 1 month ago
@HunterKiller308 that cavities in the 5.56 are not that big have you seen ballistic tests? and in urban area material damage is the absolute best but unless it's more open then 5.56
MrDip02 1 month ago
@MrDip02 the fragmentation spread is about 5 cubic inches after tumbling through 2 inches
thats more than enough to totally destroy your internal organs, all those little fragments and multiple wound channels are a NIGHTMARE for any surgion
material damage? LOL the 39 is slow as shit, yeah you might be able to punch through some stuff but it will be weak as hell once it hits you,
you want a antimaterial round that maintains good lethality get a 308. shooting what you dont see is foolish
HunterKiller308 1 month ago
@HunterKiller308 oh no im saying it's not as much as a hollow point yeah the 39 is slow because they bullet is so damn big wish they changed that -_-
MrDip02 1 month ago
@HunterKiller308 oh god you're the colt fucking retard again god dammit
MrDip02 1 month ago
@redfirekla the truth is the first few shots will be about equal in accuarcy, however the ar type rifles have a tighter grouping after sustained fire, plus the ar has a better range, yes the ar is more prone to jamming if not taken care of, in vietnam ar's jammed cause they weren't cleaned and used a dirty ball powder, the ak was built to be more rugged since russia's armies throughout history have been primarily conscripts with limited training, u really want 2 shoot thru a wall pick up an m14
packr72 1 month ago
@packr72 I have a Saiga 308 that is just as accurate as m14 it has the vepr thicker receiver and 22 inch national match barrel it came stock it's the Saiga 308 ver 21 i'm stating that good quality AK's are accurate they are in the same ball game as the AR, the ar's accuracy advantage is very minor not enough to make a difference for what both rifles were designed for..
redfirekla 1 month ago
@redfirekla maybe it is as accurate as an m14, but an m14 has better range and far more stopping power, an a ar15 has a much tighter grouping
packr72 1 month ago
@packr72 thats why the AR10 is the best of both worlds
HunterKiller308 1 month ago
@HunterKiller308 the overall design of the ar series actually helps reduce muzzle climb and recoil, from muzzle to stock the rifle is straight with no dip like the ak or m14

lordjor82 2 months ago
@lordjor82 the only real reason you would need a piston Ar is automatic fire, DI is much more accurate
HunterKiller308 2 months ago
I don't own either of these or any firearm, but If I had to take one it would be ak AK47. Why? Because you can toss it in the sand, dirt, mud, etc and it will still fire. It all really does just depend on who you are. I would rather have both than one since you can use the Ar as a sniper if you need to and the AK as and under 250 yard rifle.
Xxfreaks173xX 2 months ago

HunterKiller308 2 months ago
@HunterKiller308 No they can't. The Ar-15 cannot be Fully auto or it would be illegal. A fully automatic AR-15 would be considered an M16
Virk1997 2 months ago
@Virk1997 and a full auto AK wouldnt be illigal?, select fire weapons ARE legal depending on the state and if your willing to pay the $10,000 extortion fee
btw M4s are full auto, M16s are 3 round burst.

HunterKiller308 1 month ago
@banddude121 u right
bforbes808 1 month ago
@banddude121 nope its a 3 round burst weapon because the military had issues with overheating so they made it a 3 round burst because the it has time to cool down. they also did it because its not accurate after the third shot. they did the same with the m4 in SOME cases
tradbowhunter53 6 days ago
@Virk1997 yes it CAN be full auto but it typically is not. the reason for this is over heating and accuracy reasons.
tradbowhunter53 6 days ago
@HunterKiller308 3 round burst LOL! Where did you learn that from, call of duty?

silenthunter2468 2 months ago
i would pick the AR-15 because the AK is very unstable gun when you shoot cause it goes up when u shoot and u can not keep it under control but the AR-15 i have shot and i can keep it under control and i am 14

Hey Nutnfancy,
In order to obtain reliable fragmentation from a standard .556 NATO round at engagements over 50 yards, an AR-15 must have at least a 16" barrel (excluding flash hider/muzzle brake) to ensure constant velocities of 2500+fps.
Do you agree or disagree, and why?
RJFogs 2 months ago
not gonna lie, i would stand up and defend the AR anyday i love it, but the reliability of the AK is ridiculous...... all in all there has to be a bridge in the gap between the two
