  • That was awesome, thanks!!! A great way to wake up

  • hahaha!! that was tight!

  • Covers are usually garbage...your version is beautiful.

  • This is an awesome cover! This is also my favorite lush song that your covering! I'm so glad that you discovered the wonderful band Lush.

  • That was beautiful. Deluxe is one my favourite ever songs. Thanks for posting :)

  • Simply incredible. Coming not from the most expensive music gear nor from the most experienced player, you really did this song a just cover, especially at your age and playing music recorded prior to your birth. This proves one thing, we will never run out of music as long as the next gen looks before it.

  • @RiaRadioFMHD773 Thank you very much! It's true that my gear is cheap and that I am not experienced. I just have to say that I'm a bit older than you think and I was already alive when this song was written. I was simply unaware of it. Yes I agree, generations following us should keep all music alive!

  • This sounds lovely...you remind me so much of when I was sixteen learning how to play to some of my favorite songs...I was a teenager when this came out! I'm so glad that younger generations are catching onto some of the most influential music. Lush was just that...this gives me hope for our future!! yea !! ")

    <3

  • that really is amazing ! :)

  • This song is so.... Like a fantasy.... It reminds me of a dream where I'm in a green grass field, running around, with an oak tree in the middle and the sun is coming up, and everything is colorful........ So hard to describe..........................

  • @KingCoatimundi I know exactly what you mean :)

  • Great job...

  • Nice job, some of the chords fingerings are tough to figure because sometimes Miki and Emma are both playing at the same time, similar chords and they blend in together to create a new chord, with all that distortion and reverb and echo it can get difficult to hear exactly what is going on? Its just a lush sound! you did a nice job on transcribing to piano.

  • That was AWESOME!! You totally nailed it!! Thank you for sharing!!

  • This has been perhaps my favorite song since it was released over 20 years ago. I found your video, and it led me to buy a Casio keyboard (LK-100) and try to learn to play. I won't get to your level, but thanks for providing a great motivator.

  • @mcj814 Hi there! This is my favorite song, too. I'm glad you were inspired to play. Please think that you can achieve great things with your keyboard! If you have any questions, let me know. In fact, if it will further inspire you to play, I will post a tutorial for this song. Would you like that? Goodluck, my friend :)

  • @gbacani Thanks, any help you can offer (beyond what you've posted in the comments) will be appreciated. First, do you think it's wise for me to work solely on a song like this, or should I start with basic techniques? Second, is there a site you can recommend for chords, fingering, etc.? Third, did you get tired of the song in trying to master it? I'm truly starting from zero, so any advice is welcome. I can't see the chords you use very well, but will refer to your responses below. Thanks.

  • @mcj814 Not sure how to answer your 1st question. Some people have reported that the first song they've ever learned was a song I've posted a tutorial for ("Ashes", for example) and they did just fine after some time and perspiration. Since you already love "De Luxe", I suggest you just dive right into it. Your passion for the song might catapult you "into it". You can just google the chords/fingering. I did not get tired trying to master the song. I will post a tutorial for you in 3 weeks

  • @gbacani Thanks very much. Don't go to extra trouble. I'll work on it and ask you specific questions if they come up.

  • @mcj814 I guess you can start working on it now and also ask questions. Don't worry, I'll get that tutorial.... but now that I think about it, it might take a month.

  • that was beutiful :'3

  • Hello

I have a 61 key keyboard and i want 1 whit more and weightet keys is this the good 1 to buy? does the keys feel like a real piano and is the touch sensetif good?

Please help me! (sorry for bad englisch)

  • @davidkarji11 No, the CASIO WK-110 has keys that feel very light. It's still touch sensitive, though, but the keys are NOT weighted at all.

  • Wow te salió muy bien

  • Nice job! I'd like to hear more Lush songs arranged this way. You should plug that thing into a computer, and record the midi so you can print it out as sheet music.

  • @boldstandard Thanks. The one other Lush song I can play at the moment is 'Breeze'. I just have to record it :)

  • Bravo.

  • Wow, that was awesome, really like it, too bad for the few mistakes, but it's good :)

  • beautiful job, i love it.

  • This is great. This guy is so good!!!

  • thanks <3

  • very good!!

  • Your left hand should be playing a faster rhythm like the guitar part in the song

  • That was wonderful. I miss the band, I got to meet them once, cool folks.

  • Dude!! you are one musical genius:):)

  • Superb . . . it's just a wonderful wild trip of tune, no? You are not alone (obviersely) in having instantly fallen in love with that tune, then Miki & Emma shortly thenafter, heh heh . . . that's xactly how it went -20 yrs ago (whoa)

Some of the chords may be suspect, but Emma was always free-spirited like that, making chords ambiguous with alternative bass-notes and lingering open strings, etc . . .

  • again! this is awesomee!

  • F'N EPIC JOB ON THE COVER

  • great job man! Really, that was awesome. You've just earned a subscriber. Take requests?

  • @JPhillips011 Thanks. I don't have a good track record with requests, but tell me anyway :)

  • Hell ya! dude shoegaze is my life. you should put some my bloody valentine covers up

  • that was awesome

  • this was great, good job man!

  • that is incredible!..great job!..the original was just a little bit better..but only a little bit..

  • I'd like a tutorial too!

  • Unlike you, sir, I do remember this song from 1990, and am delighted to see that people are still discovering it some twenty years later.

It was great hearing an alternative take on this fantastic track.

  • If not a tutorial, I'd at least like to know the chords. You did a fantastic job!

  • Thanks. If you dig through the comments, you'll see that I have already provided the chords.

  • Fantastic! Great job figuring out the arrangement... it sounds like you nailed all the correct notes/ chords!

  • Hey Do you know how to work That piano on windows vista cuz i have that same piano and i pluged it in with a usb cord and its tellin me its uncabatibal

  • sorry, no. i've never connected it to a computer.

  • Please tutorial, really good song + i will have my Casio wk 110 in a week!

  • Tutorial? PLEASE?! The song is just so awesome!

  • could you give me a tutorial?

  • Yes, if more people ask.

  • Which one would be better the Casio WK-110 or the WK-200?

  • i never had the wk-200, so i don't know.

  • Nice work. That's a great song.

  • I just bought that same exact keyboard and I love it! Very well worth the $200 I paid for it!

  • Nice job. I've too have been a Lush fan for years (the few, the proud) - glad a new generation gets to enjoy them because of Rock Band 2.

  • Comment removed

  • that was great nicely done... you should try to play a song called "lilium" is the intro for a anime called elfen lied ....

  • beautiful!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow!

I was playing Rockband Unplugged when I heard this song, and I'm gone on Youtube for learn to play it on piano, but unfortunately there isn't tutorial :(

I'm a beginner on piano(that's why i can't play by ear), so please can you send me the first notes?(0:00 to 0:16)

Great job, and sorry for my english, I'm French!lol

  • Ab, E, B (2x)

    G, G (higher), D

    A, E, Db (2x)

    A, Gb, D

    repeat

Also, if you're interested in the chords, they have already been posted somewhere here in the comments. Just dig for it.

  • because what key the song is in (E), the a-flat would actually be a G#

  • Sorry, I don't know much about theory. But thanks for the correction.

  • really good job on playing it on piano, but i was reading the tags and im pretty sure de-luxe was on Gala not Shoegaze.

  • Thanks! That's correct, this song is from Gala. Shoegaze is just the genre it belongs to.

  • ooooh shoegaze is a genre...

  • A concert hall next to Elton John would set the scene for such a beautifull song.

  • Thanks! What a compliment. This song really is beautiful.

  • "I fell in love with the song instantly and listened to it many, many times for weeks. The video made it worse -- Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson are super hot"

    ---Me too!

You are sooooooo awesome for this!!! <3 Great job!

  • Love the story of you discovering Lush. I saw them live several times in the 90s in Maine, Mass and NH. You'd have loved them, I'm sure.

On a semi-related note, any chance you'd do the Tribe song, "outside"?

  • Wow, this is really cool. Please keep putting these out! What gave you the idea to do this?

  • thank you! i was playing rockband with my friends when i saw the title "lush de luxe". i was the singer but tried to pass the mic to one of my friends because i've never heard of the song/band. he did not know it either, so i was forced to sing it. and when i actively participated in the song, it just blew my mind. it was so different. i could not predict the song's chord changes and it short-circuited my brain. a song like that had to be played. sorry, that was too long.

  • yes, they still creak. i don't think it gets better (breaking it in), it probably just gets worse i'm sorry to say (although i haven't actually noticed any new keys to get worse). don't worry, it's to be expected of a cheap keyboard.

  • That's an awesome piano cover there mate! I loved back in the day, and I am only recently listened to their albums again.

De-Luxe happens to be one of my fave songs and hearing this version made me smile. Thanks.

  • no offense to Lush, but this sounds a bit better than the real song...

  • wow just by ear? you got TALENT!!

  • laahvley. thanks for the response. you're not as pretty as mikki though.

  • apesgrapes: NO ONE'S AS PRETTY AS MIKI. thanks for the video BTW. it was actually the video I used to play this song by ear. i did not have the song back then.

  • Love it. Beautifully worked out and arranged, Not enough radio airplay for that particular Lush song even when it came out, not in London anyway! Lovely to hear it now then, so many years later.

  • unexpected !

  • cool

  • very very impressive. Lush would be proud

  • this guy is really talented...it's amazing that you can play a song by ear...that's really difficult.

  • Comment removed

  • woahhhhhhhh

  • Loved this song since it came out, bought the CD right afterwards. You really do it justice. LONG LIVE LUSH!!!!!

  • Inspiring piano playing. I'm a Lush fan and friend from way back. First time I've heard it on piano, they would be proud.

  • I love Lush

    Amazing arrangement, it's was completely...awesome. :]

  • wow... if you see this song played on a piano you realise that it actually was quite a crafty arrangement... well done!

  • great job!!

i just started teaching myself piano about 5 months ago and im lookign for a good start-up keyboard.. i think im going to buy the wk-110 the one you have.. what sustain pedal do you recommend?

  • for $200 (at retail), it has a very good piano sound. the soft/cheap keys now bother me, though, and would rather have weighted keys. that's what you should get if you can. i otherwise recommend this keyboard if that doesn't bother you. it's OK for a starter keyboard, but you may have to move onto a better one later. the sustain pedal i use (and recommend) is the M-Audio SP-2 US65010 (~$30). don't get cheap sustain pedals, you step on it all the time and the money is absolutely worth it.

  • i just saw your profile and you're using a real piano (good playing, btw) from your school. you'll definitely notice a big difference with the inferior keys of the wk-110. if money is not a problem, you should get at least a Yamaha YDP-S31 (~$800-900). I'm actually getting its better incarnation, the YDP-160 (~$1300). i saw your other vids, are you a scientist, too?

  • haha im glad you liked the video, and yes that's the piano i practice on at school since i'm too cheap to buy a nice piano for home use. you're absolutely right about the "inferior" keys of the wk-100, however i've tried it out a couple of times at target, and considering the cost and all the special features, i'd definitely say this is one of the best "cheap" keyboards

  • i understand your situation completely. in that case the WK-110 is the best keyboard you can get for $200.

  • haha scientist? Are you referring to my "center of gravity" video? No, i'm just your average, Asian high school student. That video was for my center of gravity project for my physics class, i decided to go over the top and do a video :D

  • that's where it all starts. you make science projects in high school, then take up science in college, then work as a scientist in industry (or academia).

  • perhaps... but i dont intend to work as a scientist, i think medicine suits me better :D

if you dont mind me asking, what is your profession?

  • i currently work as a synthetic organic chemist. it's good to set your sights on medicine, but keep your mind open, i know some would-be doctors that became chemists. although if you're after job security you should probably be a doctor (hehe, this keyboard recommendation became a career opinion, sorry!!). anyway, i just saw a scientist when i saw your video, that's all.

  • haha no worries a little career opinion couldnt hurt :)...

ahh an organic chemist, just like my dad, how interesting

you saw a scientist in my video? surely not, me of all people ? haha i thank you for your compliments :D

  • the same way i found out about them. and it just continued from there

  • What the fuck is this.

  • i'm on your side. seriously, WTF.

  • Oh don't worry about it!

    I was just pissing about.

The first few bars sounded funny after the original ( from the link)..but you've done a first class job on this.

  • so glad people are discovering Lush through Rock Band. Lush was the best band I've ever seen in concert to this day. probably the most underrated band ever.

  • Very nice man. Once you nail this down a bit more and raise the tempo some...I'd love to see a second video of you playing this.

I'm one of those guys who remembers this song the first time around back in the 90's. I'm glad to see it's getting a resurgence through Rock Band.

  • this sounds great. :D

  • Very good man, it rivals the original

  • Great Job! You really captured the spirit of one of my favorite songs. Now I wanna hear you tackle Unfamiliar by Ride. Cheers!

  • Seems like this song is making major waves! I also just recently discovered it on Rock band 2 and I'm amazed that i had never heard of it until now. I honestly cannot get this tune out of my head! It's incredible! I'd like to see these guys (Lush) back in action. Oh...yeh btw, good job on the keyboard! :o)

  • What Keyboard is that? It sounds good.

  • Casio WK-110. I'm using "piano+synth" as the voice. It's inexpensive (~US $200, got it used for $125) but also kinda feels cheap. If I had more money I'd obviously buy a better one. But, yes, it does sound good.

  • Sweet I found out about it through rock band too! :D It's a really sweet song. And your video sounds great!

  • This is awesome! I love listening to it. It's in my favorites. I have a part of this song written out, but I wish that I could have the whole thing.

  • Do you mean the chords?

  • yeah

  • PART 1: (E) I've been (Gadd9) waiting on the (A) slide Su-(B7sus4)-ggest I open (E) wide No in-(Gadd9)-centive to (A) hide Happy (B7sus4) coursing through my (E) veins Don't (Gadd9) even know my (A) name When I'm (B7sus4) up you're coming (E) down When I'm (Gadd9) up you're coming (F#m7) down PART 2: (G) Inside of (F#m7) me, (F#m7/B) some sight to (Abm7/C#) see (G) Some sight to (F#m7) feel our (Aadd9) earthy bed (E/Ab then Abm)
  • PART 3 (just like PART 1): When we're wrapped in polythene... PART 4 (see previous comment about "Chorus"): Some say I'm vague... PART 5 (just like PART 1): When we're wrapped in polythene... PART 6: Abm, C, Bm7 (x3), then A (x1) PART 7 (just like PART 4): Inside of me, some sight to see... PART 8: Do do doo... (E, G, A, Bsus4) 3x
  • Really good job man! :)

  • Wow, that was really good. Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson are super hot. And you version is super good. I kind of heard a fumble at one point or two, but other than that really good. Now learn "Lovelife" or "Lit Up" and we are in business. Or try "Superblast". hehehe

  • Thanks! Yeah, there were a couple of mistakes. I actually had many takes, and this was the best one. I played it over and over in front of the camera, and just got bored after a certain point and decided this was good enough. Don't worry, once I get a better piano, I'll redo it. I'll check out those other Lush songs, but I'm really more of a Rock Band fan than a Lush fan (Lush fans don't get mad at me!). We'll see, after all, Emma has shown she can compose beautiful chord progressions.

  • OK, Superblast I like. I'll put it on my "to do" list.

  • Oh its all good man. Thank you so much for this. I'm gonna get crackin on this. Yea these chords are so nice. Whe I heard it I was like these two girls came up with this and I never heard it. Damn. lol. thaks again

  • sounds sick my dude. the chords during the chorus are so soulful. it reminds me of Ol school RnB. The kind that the Neptunes are ispired by. Would you mind posting the chords. This is a great arrangemet!

  • Thanks! I'm happy to share what I know. The chords may not be exactly what Emma used, but here they are as my ears best discern them. Don't invert the chords (use the root note as the bass) unless I show a slashed chord, then invert it as written.

    CHORUS:

    (G) Some say I'm (F#m7) vague

    (F#m7/B) And I'd easily (Abm7/C#) fade

    (G) Foolish pa-(F#m7)-rade of (Aadd9) fanta-(B7)-sy

    (G) Drink in your (F#m7) eyes

    (A) Drink in your (Abm7) sighs

(G/B) Grass in my (A) thighs my aching (B7) legs

  • Sorry, I assumed you were unfamiliar with slashed chords (I actually did not know what they meant until recently, I always thought they meant "or", hehehe). I didn't mean to lecture. Anyway, yeah, the add9 and 7th chords definitely add to that soulful character.

  • Excellent.

  • Adding it to my favorites as we speak. Nice job.

  • cool! keep it up.

  • i love you so much AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES PLAT THAT PIANO

  • Wonderful arrangement!!! You rock bro!

  • Excellent! Very beautifully played!

  • great! * * * * *

  • really well done, you think you can do an interpol song??

  • thanks. i'm not very familiar with them but i'll try to find a song that's amenable to the piano.

  • what key are you in....d?

  • honestly, i don't know. i just played it as i heard it (there was no transposition from the original key, whatever that may be).

  • I believe it's in E major, The B7 is sometimes played inverted wtih the bass D#, I always look for the V chord....

  • looking at it again, e major sounds about right.

  • Not sure what you mean RonHo420, but if you're talking about the chord at 0:56, 1:35, and 2:45, it's B_add9 with a bass Db.

  • That was awesome. I read your caption and wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Yeah this is one of my favorite songs on Rock Band 2. Great interpretation.

  • That sounds so good.

Most videos of people playing piano on YouTube are either bad quality or the plaer isn't very good but this one was great

  • When I clicked on this link I didn't expect this to sound anywhere near as good as it does, great job

  • wow, thanks.

  • by ear? great job, bird! I heard the original track. I like your interpretation better. Haha! So nice to see and hear you playing again.

  • i've never heard of lush before but great job playing as always..

  • My favourite Lush song. What a melody. Nice work. I didn't know this was in the game rock band. How come I never heard about that? I dont know whether I'm happy about it or not. A lot of little weiner kids will probably get into lush now, and say that De-Luxe is the only good lush song, and comment other lush videos saying they suck. I've seen this happen in the past when good songs get used in things (Gary Numans "Cars" in South Parks latest episode.)

  • Thanks. It's good that people are being exposed to Lush. Don't worry about the kids -- this is only one song in the game, and there are plenty others to keep them distracted. In the South Park episode, "Cars" was probably the only song to focus on. Gotta admit, though, De-Luxe didn't exactly make me want to go and listen to other Lush songs objectively after a slight bias to the song. So I kinda see your point.

  • dont worry about the technical shit man that was really good

  • nicely done

  • That's really awesome. Good job.

  • bad ass, man. should've sung it too.

  • thanks, but you don't want that (trust me) :)

  • you captured it pretty good.
