Since you all are brilliant and competent to asses the literal worth of a games story, you already know the first 4 games were alegorically based on the 3 books of Dante's Divine Comedy, as well as Dante's stand alone poem La Vita Nova. These works lend themselves well to the base of a video game.
@StAverti What other work should Capcom have used as a lose base for DMC5.... hmmm....the Monarchia? how about the Convivio? The remainder of Alighieri's works are too blatantly political to serve as a literary base for another DMC game, so what reason would capcom have to keep the same structure in DMC 5? Tapping the creative potential of another developer was a great way to avoid retaining the status quo and making a game that lacked the literary beauty of the previous games.

Capcom has left a great deal of lee-way in the story of their games that we can't really complain about the canonical accuracy of DmC until we actually see the game. Don't forget, Dante's mother was human according to legend, but then again Sparda himself became human after leaving his demonic power in hell. Who's to say his mother wasn't an angel who gave up her divinity to live a mortal life with Sparda?

Ninja Theory has been explaining that this is a completely new Dante and is in now way linked to the classic Dante he may have a father named Sparda and an ANGEL mother named Eva but that's what the similarities end. Hell he might be an only child so that means no more Vergil, which would suck, but this new Dante seems pretty cool. The old Dante was a BEAST and could kick anyone's ass but this one seems more "human" so it could make the story deeper, like what if he isn't a super badass anymore?
@Bloodnaut i thought so at first too, but if you notice he seems more to just delve into the character they're creating, not just makeit look like him. when they made other games he also seemed to dress similarly to the character. so i wouldnt jump the conclusion he just made it look like him, cuz it really doesnt.

I Believe this game is showing how Dante was able to Control his demonic powers outside the demonic realm & you must remember in Devil May Cry 3 it showed how he got his devil trigger for the first time. SO basically that this Is the First DmC game. SO it would go DmC, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry & then Devil May Cry 4.

@pkcdb If you want to see Dante before he discovers his Devil Trigger, then play DMC 3: Dante's Awakening. It is him in his youth when he first discovers his powers (halfway through the game) This is just trying to go farther back the DMC 3, which in theory isn't bad. But when you throw away the already solid past that he has and try to reform it entirely. It makes the game an abomination to the series and should not be allowed to continue if you want any chance of seeing old Dante.

I looked through every single Devil May Cry Game, the only "changes in his facial structure" are very few and if you havent noticed he IS YOUNGER his face will look a little different. And if you look closer, the only thing that makes his face look different is his hair style. A hair style all in itself can make someones face apear to be different, I mean look at Vergil compared to Dante. They're IDENTICAL twins, the only difference is they're hair, or at least it is in DMC 3.
and the only reason Vergil's hair is different is because he gels it back. when you fight him in the rain, he looks like DMC3 Dante in Virgil clothing. and I agree with Game Grenade when he says that this is when his demon blood kicks in. so i can't wait to see the game

The shit he said in other games made him sound like a fucken dumb ass sometimes, other times they were pretty cool but not always. The hair is part of the story it looks like, especially considering it changes to white, which is kind of bad ass.
To all you guys saying "give the game a chance" what you don't understand is that if you give Ninja Theory your $60 so you can try the game and give it a chance, then you are paying them to continue to never make DMC games with the origional Dante in them ever again. By giving this game a chance you are automatically taking away any chance the old Dante has. They want you to sacrifice the old character forvever JUST so their new one can have a chance, thats too heavy a price to pay for a gamble.

ok for one Reach is not Halo 4 it's a side story featuring different characters so of course it's not about Master Cheif. A Halo game without Master Cheif would be if Halo 4 didn't have Master Chief in it.

Reach may be above the quality of a side story but it's not in the main Master Chief series or it would have been called Halo 4 and I garuntee you that if it was called Halo 4 people wpuld have b*tched that you couldnt play as Master Cheif BUT that is still completely different from a scenario where Master Chief IS the main character and has been replaced by a new character and still called Master Chief. In this way the new DMC is not roughly the same.

Fans were first drawn to the series for it's trademark "Stylish Action" so quite the opposite. People were first drawn in because of how the game and the main character LOOKED I remember when it was previewed in the game magazines back in the day and looks were the hook.
What made us all stay for 9 years after that was the solid gameplay, but that's not what first enticed us.

You can't say they changed it now it sucks until then, because you don't know how the game will turn out. And old Dante won't be sacrificed forever, the old games still exist and we can still play them, they are great. And we will also be able to experience the new games. People should be a little bit more tolerant regarding franchises. If you buy it or not doesn't matter, I don't think there will be any "old" styled DmC again and personally I think that's good.

Since you all are brilliant and competent to asses the literal worth of a games story, you already know the first 4 games were alegorically based on the 3 books of Dante's Divine Comedy, as well as Dante's stand alone poem La Vita Nova. These works lend themselves well to the base of a video game.

Ninja Theory has been explaining that this is a completely new Dante and is in now way linked to the classic Dante he may have a father named Sparda and an ANGEL mother named Eva but that's what the similarities end. Hell he might be an only child so that means no more Vergil, which would suck, but this new Dante seems pretty cool. The old Dante was a BEAST and could kick anyone's ass but this one seems more "human" so it could make the story deeper, like what if he isn't a super badass anymore?

It is him in his youth when he first discovers his powers (halfway through the game) This is just trying to go farther back the DMC 3, which in theory isn't bad. But when you throw away the already solid past that he has and try to reform it entirely. It makes the game an abomination to the series and should not be allowed to continue if you want any chance of seeing old Dante.

I looked through every single Devil May Cry Game, the only "changes in his facial structure" are very few and if you havent noticed he IS YOUNGER his face will look a little different. And if you look closer, the only thing that makes his face look different is his hair style. A hair style all in itself can make someones face apear to be different, I mean look at Vergil compared to Dante. They're IDENTICAL twins, the only difference is they're hair, or at least it is in DMC 3.

To all you guys saying "give the game a chance" what you don't understand is that if you give Ninja Theory your $60 so you can try the game and give it a chance, then you are paying them to continue to never make DMC games with the origional Dante in them ever again. By giving this game a chance you are automatically taking away any chance the old Dante has. Fans were first drawn to the series for it's trademark "Stylish Action" so quite the opposite. People were first drawn in because of how the game and the main character LOOKED I remember when it was previewed in the game magazines back in the day and looks were the hook.
What made us all stay for 9 years after that was the solid gameplay, but that's not what first enticed us.

@ChronicDreamer1st I was drawn to how badass I personally felt killing demons. Either way, why complain about it when there isn't even a demo? You can't say they changed it now it sucks until then, because you don't know how the game will turn out. Personally, I think that 4 was only average, it wasn't bad, but there wasn't anything that made it stand out either. It was bland. Also, a reboot would have happened anyway, well either that or the franchise would have died. Which option sounds better

@ChronicDreamer1st Yeah or they keep on making old DmC games and they will get boring sequel after sequel. And old Dante won't be sacrificed forever, the old games still exist and we can still play them, they are great. And we will also be able to experience the new games. People should be a little bit more tolerant regarding franchises. If you buy it or not doesn't matter, I don't think there will be any "old" styled DmC again and personally I think that's good.

Im not sure but i heard new dante has two forms angel and demon i think old dante probably got so powerful that the form in this game aka his white hair became his normal self basically accepting his demon form as for the coat i believe that was his mom's coat so new dante's coat probably inverted since so far all we know is this game takes place in 2 world at the same time human and demon.his new form probably puts him in a state like that making his hair white and the red inside his coat show

BTW Good Review SkateNugget21. but i think I'm gonna sit this one out and wait for someone to post a walkthrough just to get an idea of what the story will be about. As a devoted fan of the devil may cry series, I simply can't buy this game in all good conscience. :/

It's just ninja theory's way of luring in committed dmc fans by inserting superficial characteristics of the real dante we all know and love. It's a fucking gimmick, it doesn't matter how many changes they make in his appearance this guy simply doesn't have Dante's style, tastes, soul or fire. Inthink that Vergil has to make an appearance in this game because this story may be about how he came to be the Dante that we know I like the twist on the devil trigger with the white hair in all. But all I know is that if Vergil doesn't appear I'll be really disappointed in capcom

according to me guys ... i think the game might seem bad ...but still we havent tasted it sooo we need not flame capcom or ninja theory ..i believe that the trailer seems nice...i believe that those two great companies will totally have an explanation about this ..... so dont be greedy .....we have to experience a new generation game so lets wait till its available and enjoy it :)
