    Awesone

  • If there were a video the world would blow up from over exposure to awesomeness

  • o kra foi passar o ano novo na cidade, cumeu uma biscate e gamou....

quem nunca passou por isso??? :S

  • there are a lot of mistakes in your lyrics. You might want to revise the video and re-release it.

  • Anyone knows what he said in the end? The part with "...the sea shall give up it's dead..." or something like that.

  • @jarlanda08 The spoken word part at the end: "I hereby commit the body to the deep, to be turned into corruption, looking for the resurrection of the body, when the Sea shall give up her dead, and the life of the world to come, through our Lord, amen." Fitting since the narrator commits suicide by jumping into the sea: "Black oceans beneath shall now swallow me..."

  • Who dislikes this!?!?!?

  • @Senhori and blind also, they cant even see the lyrics

  • Loveeeeeeee That <33333

  • this is what i think: He works in a lighthouse and in new eves night he left his postto go to the town. There he met a woman whith who he spent the night. When hewas driving back to the lighthouse he has an accident and get inconcius. When hewoke up(nightmare wakes me up..) he finds that noone was at the lighthouse to guide the ships. Then he pray to the moon to lit the sails .. but the disaster of the white pearl was done. Then he had? a trial and set free but the guilty made him comit suicide

  • @killerguthix yap you are right good comment to make people understand a bit of the sound

  • One of the best song ever wrote.

  • masterpiece!

  • This is probably their masterpiece... just like Nightwish has Ghost Love Score, Sonata has White Pearl, Black Oceans...

  • @SylarSilent i think you meant dead boys poem, that is there masterpiece.

  • @nightwish22893 Wish I Had An Angel is the masterpiece

  • @SylarSilent Nightwish`s masterpiece is Wish I had An Angel

  • Always epic, no matter what time of day. This is seriously my favorite song of all time.

  • Moral of the story- If your a lighthouse keeper don't go to town

  • 99,990 veiws lol 10 more ppl need to show up make it a clean 100k! ^_^ this song makes me cry a bit...

  • Love this song from Sonata Arctica! The song is so emotional! I love it so much! Can not say what I feel when I hear this song from Sonata Arctica!

  • Such a moving song, to go from rebirth to suicide...

  • Knowing beforehand that Tony is influenced by Queen, I can see a lot of the same story-telling approach and atmosphere in this song as there is in Bohemian Rhapsody. Pretty cool.

  • I just realized how fucking brilliant this song is. You have to read the lyrics to pick up on the the amazing plot details. its practically an epic poem!

  • 2:13 - 2:21 i jizzed twice in that time.

  • 1:47 to 1:57 ,just perfect

  • Sry I don't know the english word but I had a "Gänsehaut"...

    Such a great song. *_*

  • @HisacoCasco

    goosebumps ;)

    und mir gehts genauso xD

  • 2:33 still gives me chills

  • @blu3j4yw4y

    Yes, that part just rocks.

  • There's errors in the ''Correction'' post too lol. Not ''come claim my land'' It's ''Come claim my life''

  • My Favorite

  • what an espectacular song....

Best song ever written... Absolutely brilliant.

  • I know this discussion was from two months ago, but I just thought of something. When the lyrics say, "claim my land" in one of the last refrains, it might not be an English mistake at all. Since the lighthouse keeper is committing suicide, and the lighthouse belongs to him, there is no one to inherit the lighthouse and his possessions (a.k.a. his land), and so he is giving everything he owns to the ocean, including his life.

    Thoughts?

  • Love from Romania .

  • perfect

  • I have always said, this song should have an official video. It deserves it.

  • is there any video of this song without the 8:17 to the final part?

  • It was so bad he was bed ridden for many days, and one night on a red moon he awoke from a nightmare and saw the lighthouses light had gone out. He looked out to the sea and saw the white pearl sailing unguided and he prayed the moon would be light enough to see it safe beyond the deadly reefs

  • By far the best song ever made

  • those 13 people can go die in a fire horribly

  • @Sarpedon612

nah they just had to cough and accidently clicked dislike, there cant be any other reason xD

  • @HomeRunChips of course not! but i'm still firebombing them

  • @giygasattack I did some thinking, and i think it can be logical, i can't make it sound like "take my life , or toll my life, i 95 % know it's claim my land, i heard he sing it live also, i think he also want's his people to die, to delete the suffering they're bearing after his fail with the lights, or maybe it's just complex irony Tony means with "come claim my land" who knows :)

  • @visionsvetarn I suspect we're listening in different languages since I can't hear anything other than 'ife' there. After more listening, I can accept it's 'claim' not 'take', but I can't force myself to hear 'land' there no matter what.

I know a family of Finns who hear 'life' there too, plus even the official lyrics list it as 'coastal reef come claim my life'.

Can we just agree to disagree? I'd rather not get into an argument, which conversations like this on youtube can rapidly become.

  • Man, I loved this song before I knew the story that went with it. Now I get chills just hearing this song, its so beautiful and powerful. I really wish this had its own visuals, even simple ones to do such a beautiful work of art its credit.

  • @georgel19841 maybe you should look at the song again. "looser" (spelled wrong, btw) never comes up. and "masturbating"? you really need to listen again, or just leave and not trouble us with your negative comments. save your negative comments for something that is actually negative. you do know what that means, right?

  • @SuperWillie900 tell me what is this song about?

  • @georgel19841 this song is about a man who was born into the life of a lighthouse atendant, because of the urgency of his task he was never out of the light house to enjoy life, his life was empty until one night out on the town he by chance ran into a woman with whom he fell in love, after a wonderfull night with her she promised to be his and told him she was sailing away that night on the ship the white pearl, once she left him someone came out of an alley and beat him up, it was so bad he

  • @BIUUftr it was so bad he .....???what????? please continue

  • the story of a looser ,failed to keep the light on ,because he was a looser masturbating ,because he is forever single

  • @georgel19841

Kinda like you, right? No need to get as sentimental as SA does.

  • @TooOldTimer yes

  • they say that watching some videos is a wast of time, like a person who doesn't like this song may say "I just wasted 8:40 of my life" in my opinion, not listening to this song is a waste of 8:40 of your life.

    SONATA ARCTICA IS THE BEST!!!

  • I love how they always tell stories in their songs

  • If i was an milionare, i built an bar at the coast shore and named it White Pearl....in there all guests drinks nice quality bear and sings songs like this one...sorry, its just an poor, drunk mans dream and wish, but im standing high and proud..CHEERS friends!!

  • They should really make some kind of video of this song.

    Dynghärj kunghatt

  • I love this song <3

I'm seeing 'em on 30th September in Milan <3

  • I can do a play with this.

  • I swear this is going to be played at mah funeral Such a wonderful song ;-;

  • Sonata the best band forever!XD

  • the words are a masterpiece

  • Nope, it is my land, listen carefully.

  • bout a guy lives in his lighthouse spend the night with this woman then the guy who got the girl pregnant comes and beats up lighthouse boy untill he's unconcious (i never had a chance to stop what hit me what broke my bones and

  • @loudlady244 mauled me) therefor cannot tend the light ship crashes in the morning he doesnt know what happend so in the courthouse he finds out (my voice in the room broke the silence everybody killed me with their eyes what i was to hear made the people cry impossible for me to keep the tears inside)

  • then it's all like jury has to decide (one step will take me back inside another seals my fate no one can love a man who gaurded the light one fatefull night, begging eyes i must confront before i am stated free defining innocence is hell after all that has past building new walls inside my eternal night although they

  • took my heart and dryed me up sometimes i still bleed the light will show me the way on the grisly reefs too many dead ends i see no soul can save me the respect i lost the measure of a man, ten thousand steps down round and round one night on the town and im hell boud, black oceans beneathe come an swallow me) what to do with him but for all the respect he lost and killing his love

  • @Scryerlml .... yeah pretty sure they do.

  • love this songg

  • this song makes me wanna fight demons and shit

  • @trottingfox nah man, thats The Cage or perhaps Ain't Your Fairytale XD Although this would definatley be on my demon-ass kicking CD

  • einfach ein hammer geiles lied...wunderschön....Sonanta halt...

  • amen

  • Yes there are some faults in the lyric:

    "Learned" not Learn

    "101 steps" not 1000 steps

"All of the night" not for all night

"Way too small" not only too small

"Eat away the night" not only eat the night

"Has tolled their lives" not Have tolled, (only in one part)

"I am states free" not I'm truly stated free

"Come claim my land" not come toll my life"

  • @visionsvetarn and its "eat away the night" not eat the night

  • @visionsvetarn Actually, the last line you corrected says 'take my life'. It has to, since 'claim my land' wouldn't make sense there, the lyrics suggest he's killing himself and no mention of land is made anywhere else.. The second to last should say 'stated', but that's probably just a typo on your part.

Plus you missed the 'a name was inked in his arm' about 4 minutes in and the occasional spelling error.

  • Lesson here is on prof reading

  • @lancejobs It's "proof", not "prof".

  • Comment removed

  • @visionsvetarn Last sentence is "Coastal reef come claim my life" not "land".

  • @IchigoArlekin Yes you're right, my bad! :)

  • this is what i think: He works in a lighthouse and in new eves night he left his post to go to the town. There he met a woman whith who he spent the night. When he was driving back to the lighthouse he has an accident and get inconcius. When he woke up(nightmare wakes me up..) he finds that noone was at the lighthouse to guide the ships. Then he pray to the moon to lit the sails .. but the disaster of the white pearl was done. Then he had a trial and set free but the guilty made him comit suicide

  • That's exactly my interpretation, except of the part with the accident. I think he simply slept with her and then wakes up. About the line "...we both could see, the father of her unborn child and me" I think he and the father are the same person.

Hey, have you ever tried interpreting Deathaura? Took much time, for English is not my mother tongue, but it's fun :3

  • They're two different people. But there is no driving accident, the husband attacked the lighthouse man.

  • You're both wrong, there is no accident but the husband didnt attack the lighthouse man, "Black oceans rise and swallow me" means litteraly he drowned him self after hearing that because he wasnt in the lighthouse to ensure safety of all the people aboard the white pearl, they crashed into the harbor consulting that everyone died, he couldnt take it and drowned himself to hope that the god of the moon and ocean in this case could forgive him by making the ultimate sacrifice.

    that's how i see it

  • "I never had a chance to stop what hit me, what broke my bones and mauled me." The man attacking him for sleeping with his wife, I though this was obvious. "One thing I remember, before I fell on the ground, although I never saw the face, a name was inked in his arm ... " What he saw before passing out from the man attacking him. "The family name stated I had seen before ... written on her front door!" Referring to the mans name and the name above the womens door.
  • @elmenfo ooh h ** great explanation! thank you dude

  • @elmenfo holy shit........... thats crazy dude, that was good

  • @elmenfo i think that when the "two lovers met" that they did "it" cuz it says "we both could feel the father of her unborn child and me", i might be wrong but it kinda sound like it

  • @elmenfo i agree with you on everythin except the driving i believe that he was walking back to his post and a relation to the woman attacked him for what he did last night "a name was inked in his arm" he was then on trial with that man who was "the father of her unborn child" he was then found innocent but guilt made him commit suicide as you said

  • Comment removed

  • @elmenfo You completely missed one of the most important parts. He's incapacitated by the jealous husband of the woman he was with. So it was not only the light guard's fault, but the husband's as well. She was also pregnant, which makes it even more of a tragedy. (Husband indirectly kills his wife and unborn child because of jealousy, and a poor innocent man is the conduit of it all)

  • @drayconn Who ever came up with this kicked shakespears ass

  • @elmenfo and he loses the woman he loves because she resents him because of he was "guilty" of the death of the people on the white pearl

  • OH yeah you had forgot a word^^

by this: oh moon eat "away "the night^^

  • preferita dei sonata arctica , a dir poco magnifica!

  • that song is fucking confused if u don't know english like an englishman:p

  • Funny, when it said he was hit, mauled, I pictured he was hit by a car or something and woke up in the hospital and he wasn't able to get back to the lighthouse.

    I don't know.

  • This is my favorite song of all time. The first time, when I can't decide whether the lyrics compliment the songwriting or the other way round. Emotional, powerful, visual masterpiece. You could write an entire book about this song. I can't say that about any other song. "Everybody killed me with their eyes." Unbelievable mastery of words.

  • I didn't know metal could be so beautiful until I heard Sonata Arctica.

  • you are all right this is an excellent song with great lyrics and arragements

  • This is one of the best song I've heard...the rhythm, the words... beautifl!

  • good song and lyrics!

  • (L)

  • It's my first time hearing this band! I sooo love them!!!

  • Is the sound quality of this really bad for anyone else?

  • Absolutely one of, if not THE greatest songs ever written. Seeing them on 3rd December - I hope Hope HOPE they sing this one...! I'll be singing along like an escaped looney!

  • Ahh! Are you seeing them in Islington, London? I'm going there! I can't wait!

This is my favourite song, ever. I doubt they'll play it though, it's too long...

  • I know. And they'll need the orchestra. Ah well - here's hoping. But they should still do Full Moon, Replica, Last Drop falls etc.

  • @execation , yes they are doing this song in this tour!! ;D I'll see them tomorrow. Can't wait!

  • Beautiful song...

  • hey man! great! i love that song is just awesome, well done my friend!

  • [SPOKEN:]

I hereby commit thy body to the deep

    To be turned into corruption

Looking for a resurrection of the body

When the sea shall give up her dead

And the life of the world to come, through our Lord

    Amen

  • 2:42 lyrics Oh blood red moon, eat away the night

  • what he said at 8:20

    i don´t understand T.T

  • i would have to say that the girl gives him false hopes the night they slept together and that is what destroyed him the next day she left he was so depressed he fell into a forced sleep but a nightmare woke him and he saw the lghthouse was unlighten and he hoped that nothing would go wrong but the next day at the courthouse he finds out that a ship called the white pearl sank and everyone on it died including the girl he is proclaimed innocent but he feels like dying so he jumps from the tower

  • Comment removed

  • @vallecaucano114

I say the reason he killed himself was he couldn't live with the guilt of causing the disaster that killed the girl, and the hate filled looks he was given by the townsfolk, though the court found him innocent, he took the brunt of the town's hatred since the disaster happened on his watch

  • now i will say how i got the song:

The shy lighthouse keeper lives in his lighthouse all year, and went out on new years eve. He met that girl and they spent a night together. the girl wants to escape somehow(maybe from her husband). later the day the keeper is hit by a person. the only thing he can remember is the name on the arm (has to be the husband). He wakes up from a nightmare he has about no one lighting the lighthouse.

  • He is brought to the courthouse and informed that all people on the ship have died, including the girl. the court says hes not guilty, but he kills himself because he cannot bear the pain

  • The mauling hit in the song is not to be taken literally. It is the shock he gets when he wakes up and realizes he has slept through his watch.

  • i don't think so because he said he fell asleep (fainted) and was in the courthouse with the husband

  • Personally, I think this is the story of the song:

As before, lighthouse keeper, Bit of a recluse, goes out to a New Year's Eve party. Meets this woman, they do some "stuff" together, and she tells him she's leaving the town the next night, cause she feels hemmed in by this small town. She tells him that she will remember him forever.

The next bit confuses me slightly. He's away off home, across "wintry fields" remembering the last night. Something hits him, causing him to fall unconscious.

  • What this was, I don't know. The timing also is confusing. He goes to a party on New Year's Eve. It says he is going home in the "first hour of morning's light" so, 5 AM? He gets knocked unconscious at this time. Then is unconscious (Has the nightmares about "blind ships"). He wakes up saying "Good Morn O Fateful day" So, he was unconscious for 24 hours "In a cold shelter". (At this point, I have two different ideas of what happened)

  • First idea:

He goes to the town hall as soon as he awakes. As he opens the door, he sees the bodies of those on the ship who were drowned, then washed up on shore. Then, while he is there, the "father of her unborn child" hits him. He flees as someone important, or a law enforcement person comes in ("Silence in the courthouse"). He runs back to his lighthouse, then begins a big debate within himself about his future, eventually coming to the conclusion that he will never find forgiveness.

  • Then, after this, decides to kill himself (I love the final 3 choruses, while listening to it, I just picture the man walking slowly up the steps in "Ten thousand steps down..." bit and reaching the top at the end of the first "chorus". Then he steps out onto the platform around the top of the lighthouse, and on grabbing the railing, one hand on "SEAL my FATE" (The other on fate) Then screaming "Help me pay back, end their hate" finally, jumping and falling in the third chorus.

  • And my other theory as to what happens between "Good morn...." and the end of that "fast bit" is that this is him giving evidence of what happened in court. When he gets hit by the woman's husband, this would get people in the courthouse talking, hence why the judge says "Silence in the Courthouse" Then, the bit "One step will take me back inside..." Is him again musing over him being found innocent ("defining innocence is hell") and deciding to kill himself to "...End [the town's] hate"

  • I think that who hits him is the father or a very close relative to the girl he was with on new years eve... "the family name stated I had seen before. Written on her front door" 4:13

  • I wonder if the story to the song has any symbolic meaning with it. Because from what I can see, this woman did pretty much distract the lighthouse keeper into forgetting about his watch when she had a husband AND a kid coming.

  • Probably one of the most, or maybe even THE most, epic songs by Sonata Arctica!!!!! I love listening to this song, and is my favorite song by them!! They rock, no one compares to them, NO SONG COMPARES TO WHITE PEARL BLACK OCEANS!! =)

  • First time I've heard the song. It's great. =]

  • this is the greatest song ever written, period. 8 minutes and forty seconds ago i was feeling like shit, now i'm just fine. Thank you for putting up this video.

  • the iano part after 5:05 was amazing

  • No... That song is about the mythology of Selene and Endymion.

  • "one direction, down down down, black oceans beneath rise and swollow me" translation= He jumped off the lighthouse into the sea to end his life, pain and the peoples hate

  • The story in the song is that of a shy lighthouse keeper who decides to spend new years eve in town, and falls in love with a girl who is running away. When her husband finds out about the afair he attacks the lighthouse keeper on his way home, and the light goes out causing the ship the girl is on to wreck.

At the town meeting the Husband relized who it was he had attacked, but choses not to say anything and allows all blame for the White Pearl's loss to fall on the lighthouse keeper.

  • i have to disagree with part of your story.

Nobody attacked the lighthouse keeper. there is no husband in this story. Only a lighthouse keeper who spend a night in a town where he met a girl. It's because of him thinking of her all the time he forgot to lit the lighthouse and her ship crashed.

Father of her unborn sun is actually the lighthouse keeper

At the end...the court said he is not guilty... he couldn't stand that so he threw himself in the ocean

  • @snakes3425 close but not quite, he is found innocent, but the guilt and shame he felt pushed him to commit suicide "Defining innocence is hell, after all that has past"

He then jumps to be shallowed by the ocean

  • @snakes3425 interesting.

  • amazing song,good lyrics,etc. in one word...AMAZING

  • 8 minuti di goduriaaaaaaaaa!

  • This is an amazing song if anyone knows anything like it give it to me

  • try The Power Of One from Sonata Arctica themselves....

even if White Pearl is better

  • or you can try The Ruins of My Life, from Sonata's too....is one of the beautiest songs I've heard in my life

  • Thank you for bring clarity to an emotionally charged minor epic. Great job.

  • good job but i dont like the ablum books and tabs, theyre tabbed by retards

  • He's a shy-yet-proud lighthouse keeper.

On New Years' Eve, he found a girl and had a romantic affair. She was planning to leave on the White Pearl.

In the first hour of morning light, he returned to his lighthouse.

When he learns of the affair, the girl's husband girl knocks the protagonist unconscious.

The White Pearl crashes because the protagonist is unconscious. The girl is onboard.

He is blamed for the Pearl's crashing.

The irony is that the husband unknowingly caused her death.

  • since I'm not a native speaker I didn't understand the whole story.... could please someone explain it to me briefly? thank you

  • A lighthouse keeper who has always lived in a small town but did not talk to any of the other people went out for the 1st time one night. He met a woman and they fell in love. They went back to her house for the night. On his way home the next morning he was attacked and left unconscious. When he woke up he seen that it was dark again- he panicked because the lighthouse light was not turned on. He learned that the White Pearl had crashed cause there was no light to guide.

  • His lover was on the boat and all on board had died. The town folk all hated him and he lost the dignity he had. It then goes to a coutcase but he feels bad enough that he doesn't need to be judged. He then decides to end the pain and suffering by climbing up the cliff and jumping on to the rocks below.

    That's my interpretation :)

  • simply said...it was an epic fail...he failed to keep the fire burnin inside of tower

  • The best song i've heard.

  • i was born and raised by the sea, shy yet proudlearned to stay away from the crowd, in my home, my lighthouse. One hundred one steps round and down, New Year's eve one night on the town can change one life into eternity...

All I could see, her eyes, we got caught in the moment, all of the night. Taken beyond all lines, in silence leaving 'em all behind

  • ok yea ur right, the booklet is like, always wrong, but its not ur fault u only made a few mistakes. These are the actual lyrics:

I was born and raised by the sea, shy yet proudlearnesd to stay away from the crowd in my home, my lighthouse. One hundred one steps, round and down, New Year's eve one night on the town can change one life into eternity...

  • ... I have no words to write about this... Great, Fantastic, Wonderful? Naaaah... If there's a word that could speak about something greater, absolutely is "White Pearl, Black Oceans"....

  • Goddamn, that's a heavy story... really made me see this song in a new light considering that I initially interpreted it as an upbeat, melodic song. Feels like I just watched a short movie rather than listened to a song, honestly.

  • Someone should make a movie from this song. The lyrics is perfect. <3

    go go, Sonata Arctica <3

  • I've been think about doing something like that, but I would need to buy Adobe CS4 Pro (I think that's what it was called), and I don't have the money for it right now. :(

Would be the most epic thing ever uploaded to YouTube!
