Unbelievable. The most simple solution, to demonstrate your faith, commitment and character and actually get married would resolve all of these problems. To claim that you are having a right taken away from you when the opportunity to obtain that right is staring you in the face is absurd and downright stupid. You can't fix dumb...
It also works by disenfranchising any relationship that is not a marriage including a boyfriend and girlfriend who live together - I already know a gay couple who claim to be cousins in order to see each other in the hospital to get around stupid rules. How is this kind of discrimination right ? Take your sanctity of marriage crap and try living by it, instead of restricting how others can choose to live their lives. Everyone should be treated equally under the law. This is not a minority view.

Not to worry - Amendment 2 merely embeds current Florida law into the constitution so that those who wish to preserve the sanctity of marriage as the union between one man and one woman can feel comfortable that the ACLU or some other group is not going to challenge the law in court. Nothing changes - benefits, powers of attorney, EVERYTHING stays the same. What you hear is being put out by special interest groups who actually want the CHANGE the law rather than keeping it as it is now.
The Defense of Marriage Act passed on 9/29/96 Its provisions are codified at 1 U.S.C. § 7 and 28 U.S.C. § 1738C with two effects:
No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state.
The Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.
The ACLU will most certainly challenge the law because it excludes select citizens from "rights" given to all who are presumably equal under the law.Why would some, by accident of ethnicity, gender, religion or sexuality be more worthy of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Perhaps a better question is why would those who ARE by accident of their ethnicity, gender, religion or sexuality enjoying life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness deny these same rights to other citizens?
