I wish those times were still going myself. I grew up with FRitz The Nite Owl and Moana plus Superhost back in the 70s and 80s. It was a wonderful and more relaxed and innocent time.
I remember during DC version of Creature Feature. Creature fromt the black the lagoon, was the stable movie during halloween...Captain 20 ...moonlighting as Count Devol...memories.
Absolutely. when Vampira finally got her in to court, she lost. The Judge said "all late night horror hosts basically represent the same thing, a ghoul, devil, monster, vampire or other ghoulish figure that gives commentary on the film being broadcast and no one person or character holds monopoly or license on said character." Thats bullshit. Elvira was a fucking blatant rip off right down to the dress. the accent and the huge tits!!!Which by the way, Im not complaining about. Bring on the tits!
Good call. The absolute raping of local television blows. kids are force fed whatever the monopolies want to feed them. Theres no sincere character left in television. Im a product of the 70's when each market had tehre own movie host, horror host and you actually went to functiuons and promotional appearances and could get close to them. Bummer!
haha i just introduced my own horror host for my ezine (in the VEIN of old horror comics like Tales from the Crypt). i love horror hosts. thanks for posting this!
yeah. network tv is ruining local/regional tastes and flair and opportunities. about the only place anyone can go on tv any more is public access. the ghoul, i believe, still makes appearances tho. and detroit has a new horror host called Wolfman Mac that just signed a network deal, but u need cable to watch him.
i think the internet is going to be the new home for horror hosts. the internet is VERY diy. my horror host was intro'd this year, but it's a traditional pulp magazine type thing i do.

RIP OFF! SCTV did this character first, Count Floyd's Monster Chiller Horror Theatre.

Count Floyd was a rip off of this character. The comedian who played Floyd grew up in the same city that this guy's show played since the 70s.
But, I suppose having the internet literally at your fingertips doesn't make it easy enough to do five seconds of research.

Count Gore Devol and also Capt 20 ruled.
I miss being that young and feel somewhat sorry for todays kids including my own.

You don't see horror hosts anymore.
Or local hosts of ANY kind.
All the "local" stations have become "network" affiliates and networks NEVER have local hosts.
Pity. They were all part of our youth.
Elvira is about the only one out there at the conventions and she still looks great!
