I'm using xampp on mac and I forgot my ftp password and wordpress now asking me for a user and a pass to do the updates, I'm really stuck here, it says

Failed to connect to FTP Server localhost:21

To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

As for "collation" i recommend to use/choose utf-8_general_ci Since it's worked best for me when looking for information by comparing characters.

Also, this collation works all right for other languages such as Spanish.

i don't understand this, I see on these tutorials for PHPRETRO that when you set up apache and mysql it says starting apache/mysql on port 3306, which is the port for phpretro. I do't know how to do that... That's all i need to know.

i installed XAMPP, then i type in localhost, and instead of the splash screen i get a message saying "It works!". I even searched through all the files and could not find that splash screen, what did i do wrong?

@micah1121 At what point in this video do I touch a PHP setting? I showed how to VIEW them, but you CAN"T EDIT them from that menu.

What extra stuff are you referring to? If you want to run a PHP site, you'll probably need to know how to get at the database. If interacting with a database through a GUI is to complicated, how are you going to write PHP code?

This will not be visible to the rest of the web. It only runs on your machine. It is primarily for development and testing purposes. You need a web hosting account on a public web server for others to be able to see your pages.

Get a static IP address from your Internet Service Provider

Buy a Domain Name

Map the Domain Name to your Static IP address. (DNS Record)

This will act as your own Site host.

You will need to research all of the proper security settings too.

If you have the time and energy it is possible.

I initially shyed away from this suggestion because it's a little complicated.

External hosting is not a must.

Divert hhttttpp port(80) to your WEB-Host(local/home computer), which should get static IP(even if it is given by the DHCP).

Then talk to ur web-site registration company to divert all traffic to ur routers IP address(assigned by ur service provider).

PROBLEM: after every couple of months or earlier, ur routers IP will change by your service provider.

SOLUTION : u can pay 20/30 more to ur service provider & get an static IP address for ur router.

You can change the password of your MySQL database by going to the Users table and finding the Admin user. The password is editable from there.

phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.
