Modern? What is modern? The very singers of the mainstream are conservative. They have a modern shape, but the contents are romantic and superficial (gagas, brits, etc).
I'm not trying to critisize this comment or anything, but these guyy's were an "offshoot" of "The Beat", or the "UK Beat" as the were known in the USA. Blooody copyright !. I am afraid a lot of their material was cover verions.
But they did some incredible versions of these. (unlike some other bands that spring to mind...) Their version of The Buzzcocks "Have You Ever Fallen In Love With..." is a classic.

@donnywal there is no good stuff from this era, sorry bro! it's all cookie cutting sounds. singers are picked and molded. they don't write their own music, it's all made for them. they probably can't even all sing, luckly for the sound machines that make them sound oh so perfect. and your right about my grandma tho, she hates this shit today too!!
