Thanks 6TwoReasons for the kind words. It's funny how something you do, trying to be positive is interpreted in so many negative ways. Perhaps the comments say more about the commenter than that which they scrutinize.
This story is great, so many lessons all in one book. It does amaze me how stupid some of the people commenting on this video can be, though. There are elementary students who would have picked up on the racism piece on page 2, yet some of these idiots are missing it. I also appreciate the piece at the end, it doesn't matter how obvious it was, putting it in writing never hurts!
It reminds me more of fashion lol. Vogue shoes newest and greatest fashion then everyone has to go and get the same things they see in the magazine. Then every month a new magazine comes out and something new is in style or they bring back something from past fashion. :p
You can also see at the plain bellied sneetches as people who are never content with what they have. Like people with curly hair who straighten it or people with straight hair who curl it.
you seem to miss the fact that the sneetches were broke, weaseled out of their money by the capitalist folk... (lol sorry for some reason Suess gives me the urge to rhyme)
I totally agree, the end was shocking, out of place, and insulting. This story is about the evil nature of arms dealers and the opposing countries that make them rich. Not race
"Better Butter Battle" (I believe is the correct name for the story) is about the arms race. "The Sneetches" is about racism. Look at the time it was written and read almost any Seuss biography. Always examine historical context surrounding the date of the text -- that's what I tell my students.
Really? I guess I always looked at the dealer in this story and not how people were treating one another. I am not sure what that figure represents in terms of race? The media? Interesting. It is a good lesson in both views I think.
My school's doing a musical on this! :D Tried out, hoping for a lead role!

Thanks for ruining a Dr. Seuss book by making me think about racism, religion and politics.
Asshole.

@Noednoefpoe Dr. Seuss meant this as a commentary on anti-semitism. He used children's books as an outlet for all sorts of political commentary.

You can also look at the story as Popular people vs. Unpopular people..
Who ends up winning in the end? The one who tells them what's popular & not.
Who loses? The PEOPLE!
