It's like Metal Sonic is Classic Sonic and Mecha Sonic is Modern Sonic from their form. They both were created in diffrent times, it's just like Silver Sonic is again a complete diffrent but still similar model.

Robotnik made a Metal Sonic, Sonic 2.0, Sonic 3.0, Electro Sonic, Robo Sonic and an Alpha Sonic.

Metal sonic became smart enough to combine himself with all of the other ones, and become Mecha, a combonation of all the other sonics skill, Speed, strength and power. He betrayed eggman, thinking he is a smarter diety. Sonic 2.0 could absorb Chaos Emeralds, Thus making Super Mecha Sonic.

What're you talking about? Mecha Sonic's first appearance is in the Sky Sanctuary, Sonic and Knuckles. You defeat him three times as Sonic and Tails/Sonic/Tails, and then when you play as Knuckles he's the final boss, in Sky Sanctuary again. There was no Mecha Sonic anywhere in the game at any point other than Sky Sanctuary.
