  • It would be funny if NASA posted this video just to garner information from all the "experts" on Youtube.

  • I am starting to think the guys back in the 70's where doing this job better. Forty years pass and you got MALL COP lunar rovers come on NASA. Two space ships to get guys to the moon? How is it 1970's could do it with just one? Very poor.

  • Stanly Kubrik, Walt Disney and Wernher Von Braun( former Nazi Rocket Scientist who directed Nasa after his capture after WW2) worked together to make the apollo landings look real.

  • why the hell are they making a lunar rover...We haven't been to the Moon siice 1972, lets get their again first, then we should get this lunar rover project working.

  • We havent gone to the moon for the reason that there isnt research there needed until we are sure that we can live in space for 6 month periods. The NEW lunar rover is able to last a crew of two for 14 days when they are on the field researching. Also, the old lunar rover is outdated and hard to use. The new one has compressed air inside which allows the driver to walk around inside without the suit on, kinda of like an RV.

  • as the old rover is like a jeep where when you take off the suit, you decrompess and die. And for the reason to further do research and make a base for the launch to mars.

  • way to go NASA! we here on Earth, have "discovered" in the last 100 years that for rough terrain (soft also) tracks are better than wheels... nevertheless, you still develop a wheeled lunar rover, with loooots of wheels to distribute the load as to prevent the rover from getting stuck in the dust... (why not complicate the design, if it's too simple?) --- Constellation Program? HUGE Disappointment...

  • They (NASA) would replace the pneumatic tyres with titanium mesh type wheels once on the moon because of absence of atmospheric pressures ordinary pneumatic tyres would simply blow up.

  • "ordinary pneumatic tyres would simply blow up"

That is if you inflate them at several atm. pressure. But the tyres would not blow up if you keep the pressure difference in vacuum, as the pressure difference between tyre and surrounding air on earth.

  • Has to suck to be walking around in what appears to be real spacesuits in 1g.

I thought this new rover was kinda lame at first until I saw it work in an unmanned configuration, act as a bulldozer, and also a pressurized version.

It's actually far better then the first moon rovers I wish I can say the same about the crew vehicle Orion which seems to be turning out to be just a modernized Apollo.

  • Pneumatic tires on the rovers?

  • this is obviously a waste of resorces. these things are moving at a snails pace. and i am seriously getting pissed off by the stupid ideas comming out of nasa! u have these multi billions of dollors at your disposal and u give us this crap? and dumb rovers that give dumb pictures. like seriously for a fraction of the cost you could have had a solar dune buggy and equiped it with a HD video camera and have it tear ass across MARS. o what NASA hasnt ever heard of a VIDEO CAMERA BEFORE. ASSHOLES!

  • The reason why they are not making HD panorama videos on Mars its cause is not easy to send information back to Earth , and rovers are slow because they use form of energy that is rare , usually solar.

  • cause its not ez to send info back to earth? that is a bunch of crap!! info is info!! 1s and 0s are 1s and 0s if they can send hd pix, they can send hd video. yes, it may take longer.. but who cares. it will give you a 1000 time better feel of the environment, and sounds. and i dont even know where to start with the second comment you made. are u suggesting that sunlight is rare? do me a favor and dont strain your brain ok. you better stick with putting a ball through a hoop.

  • i am talking about Mars you dickhead , and yes rovers use solar energy therefore they can't run 100 mph , it can damage the equipment and in order for rover to do all the assignments for one day , it needs to save energy , and i am sure you are full of ideas maybe u should work for NASA

  • i was talkin about mars too. look i didnt mean to snap on you. but im soo pissed off. at these corporations and government agencies, that are full of shit and piss away billions of $s. and the truth is that NASA is keeping secrets from the people that pay them. the information that they have. they filter and cherry pick what to tell the masses of people. when are they going to say hey. we have been lieing and not telling people how planets are really formed. how the planets really create water.

  • "when are they going to say hey.... how the planets really create water" Please remember that water(H20) is a combination of hydrogen and oxygen; both are a byproduct of previous stars through a process called fusion. Fusion creates these different atoms depending on the size of the star. Our star can produce a whole range of atoms. In France they are currently building the 10billion ITER Fusion reactor. The Fusion reactor will operate like a Star; hence Producing huge amounts of energy.

  • did they find ice right under the surface of mars where i said it would be ? yes they did. are they explaining to the people that there is more and more ice on mars and when it hits the surface it evaporates and is creating an atmosephere on mars.. no they wont tell you that.

  • " it will give you a 1000 time better feel of the environment, and sounds." Remember there are no sounds in space or on the moon. If there is no air there is no medium for sound to travel. HD video would be cool.

  • soo umm i have to ask the question... why not just use hummers?

  • What a stupid thing to say.

  • why is it stupid to say? they just blow money on this junk. this crap doesnt even appear to have seats. HELLO!!!!! no seats? u have to stand? they need to send this thing to pimp my ride.

  • What do you think would happen to an internal combustion engine on the Moon or on Mars?

  • duh .. yes you have to refit them and make them run on something else. but wouldnt that be a hella lot cheaper then building a entire new thing from scratch?

  • It would be cheaper yes.

It would also be a death trap.

  • They have a stand that the backpack plugs into. I have also heard that there is a possibility that the life support system may draw from tanks on the rover rather than own internal tanks when the astronaut is plugged in.
