OMG this reporter??????? She did not say disarm the warlords. She said they are ARMING the warlords. What is wrong with this guy? This is the REAL news? What is wrong with this reporter? A game of tom and jerry. hahaha good one.
The truth is that the war was wrong from the beginning. I would also like to say enough. Enough of this sham, enough of the lies. If Obama gets the nobel prize for this, then the nobel prize no longer has worth. It's hypocrisy...Obama don't you know that no matter how elegant your speeches, that we see right through to the lies? That we're tired of war, tired of political games, tired of the blame shifting?? The people won't stand for injustice any longer. We'll keep voicing freedom...
Its comical how Joya's courage here is so unfathomable that Paul Jay has to ask the same question over and over - if the U.S. leaves who's going to take care of the warlords and Taliban? To her its obvious, "me and the rest of the freedom loving Afghanis, duh." As the cliche goes, "I don't know if your stupid or just crazy."
Thank you so very much Malalai, I wish you all the luck in the world. I am a U.S. citizen and I will apologize for our nations poor behavior and judgment. The President is not honest enough or wise enough to apologise. Unfortunately the U.S. is to corrupt to help any nation. The U.S. government is too busy robbing and enslaving everybody. Just A Old Slave ( how did a U.S. worker get that nickname ? ).
I think your personal abuse sums up your level of intelligence and debating skills. My farther is a very highly respected engineer, fellow Institute of Electrical and Mine Engineers and until he retired last year one of the highest ranking engineers for London Underground. Do you really like Ron Paul or one of those nutjobs paid to put positive posts about him on websites?
"we don't expect anything good from you, just stop your wrongdoing" amen!
"don't disarm them just stop arming them"
She prefers a civil war constrained by popular will to a geopolitical occupation that arms war lords and Taliban.
UN can cut all foreign military aid to Afghanistan from neighboring countries, send in humanitarian aid, and let us work out our internal conflicts...
Full credit to her for for her courage. Her supporters must give her some coaching though. If she would just pause sometimes it would allow the listeners to keep up. Why restrict her message to the the most committed and patient listeners?
not everyone has english as first language like you, un-lazy. Its hard enough to understanfd regular english, not to mention her accent. Subs would help immensly, even though I listened to interview twice, some parts several times. No need for insults.
I think what she meant to say at the end was that a civil war wouldn't make a lot of difference to the populace as they are constantly being brutalized anyway. Malalai is a fearless, tireless fighter. On this tour she has packed in events and interviews from morning 'til late at night. She's so formal in the interview, but when you meet her in person she's all smiles and friendship. Malalai is a tribute to her people. If there are more Afghans like her they could get their way one day.
Afghanistan needs socialism. It needs to emancipate women, take those burqas off and burn them. That's what was done starting in the 1920s in Uzbekistan and other parts of Soviet Central Asia and it was a long struggle against medieval ways of thinking, but by the 1950s the burqa was gone and it has never returned.
Afghanistan is one of the poorest nations in the world. Socialism isn't something built up in opposition to capitalism but on TOP of capitalism. Talking about socialism in Afghanistan is as premature as talking about an amusement park on the moon. The United States needs socialism.
No more war, right. Islam has been in eternal war with everybody else since day one, and Afghanistan is one of its longtime victims. The U.S. should never have invaded, but now that it's there it would also be a mistake to leave, but it's also a mistake to stay, so welcome to the real world. Too bad, Joya has been listening to many anti-American propagandists, and if she believes that the Taliban can be overthrown without U.S. backing she's headed for a burqa and all the goodies, sorry.
Malail Joya is an Afghanistan citizen and parliamentarian she is living in Afghanistan and the Warlords & corrupt Gov't officials hate her . The U.S. & NATO only concerned about their own geopolitical interests and don't really care about the citizens of Afghanistan. Obama seems more interested in maintaining the American Empire than doing what's best for Afghanistan or Pakistan or Iraq etc. Americans and Canadians should realize they do not have the right to other nations labor or resources.
Obama interesting in maintaining the American Empire? Obviously, he is interested in defending the U.S. from its enemies, which include al-Qaida, which happens to hide among the Taliban. If it weren't for AQ, the U.S. would have no interest in cruddy backward Afghanistan in Muslimland, and would be glad to pull out. People like Joya give them a good excuse, that's for sure. After they go though, she's wrong that the "people" will overthrow the Taliban, sorry.
The U.S. invaded Afghanistan because the Taliban refused to hand over Al-Qaeda. We're *staying* in order to prevent Asian energy independence. The Taliban controls 10 - 15% of Afghanistan. The Karzai gov. controls about 30% and the rest are controlled by warlords. The Taliban has 5 - 10% popular support in the country. The top U.S. military commanders are pretty clear Al-Qaida no longer exist in Afghanistan except for inoperational figureheads. The U.S. is there supporting a government of ...
... trying to get them to get the right pipeline plans in order to prevent Asian energy independence. Ms. Joya is right that once the murderous occupation forces - which is what they are - leave than the Afghanis will have one less enemy to fight. Obama is interested in maintaining the American Empire? Uh... he wouldn't be president is he wasn't. He his criminal record in Honduras not enough evidence? Hate to break to to you but a country is not cruddy just because it's Muslim.
that was always my first thought, apologize for the occupation - visibly, not only at the top, make the troops demonstrate that they have a mission for the afghan people, wear signs of respect, just serious broad vertical diplomacy
but as she says: that would require that the mission is honest and the military really wants to help, not mainly sustain and prove itself or secure imperial interests
What a woman - I only wish we had someone like her in our political system. Huge respect to her and thank you once again for opening my eyes to the real news.
She is nothing like Ron Paul - Ron Paul is honest and true to himself. He has great wisdom on economic truth. But he is still a right wing fruitloop who believes in some wacky stuff and has some very dangerous ideas

She is remarkable and strangely sad.
She has the 1000 yard stare in her eyes. I've seen it before but never on a woman.
I wonder how much death she has seen in her life.

Paul Jay did the right thing by hammering her on the subject of what will happen if the US just leaves.
The truth is that she doesn't have a good answer. That DOESN'T mean that the US SHOULDN'T leave.
It just means that it's naive to believe the problems of Afghanistan will end if the US simply moves out.
She has no good answer for the simple fact that the warloads and the Taliban would start again at square one.
