People say he had luck ... I see he had hard training, both physically and mentally. I saw some other of Werdum's victory, he is extremely good on the ground. So it was far from luck, it was a result of a lot energy put in hard training. Well, luck has always an unmanifested reason.
This respect is pretty good, and it's how MMA ought to be. But there is so much pressure to trash talk nowadays to sell a fight, that fans think is damm boring when they see mutual respect. MMA is going to become much bigger than boxing, but if they don't stop the trash talk, it's going to become a circus, and fans will have a hard time telling the difference between UFC and World Wrestling Federation

omg, i am a huge fan and lover (as a sports lover) of Fedor. i was upset for the whole day when i heard of his loss. now that i watched the match it was fedor's a bit mistake.

after the loss last night, when my brother texted me the result, i was absolutely heartbroken, i watched the fight when i got home and felt better knowing he simply made a mistake and got caught, werdum did his job, but many greats have fallen to fedor, and to be absolutely fair, if he hadnt gotten caught, fedor would have ground and pound and ko'd him like everyone else, possibly in even record time as he looked to be in alice in wonderland when he fell, im really glad to read all the comments

The importance of this fight in Fedor's path is because he could test the boundaries! Going like crazy against a brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner proved unwise.
Fedor can loose few more times since he is almost fearless in his experimentations. He'll comes back better every time.

Fedor looked like all the talk about being overrated got to him, he went in there trying to finish Werdum as fast as JDS to prove to everyone he still should be the #1 HW as a decision win would be the equivolent of a loss to his HW rank. @flaviovms I've seen all of Fedor's interviews going back the last 7 yrs. In interviews: People lie, people are told what to say, people keep their mouth shut. He isn't going to admit that's what happened, it would make him look foolish. But just look at the fight, he wasn't the same Fedor of other fights. He looked very singular rather than methodical. Look at his 2nd fight with Nog, then this one, that might show you the same thing I see.

Told you guys Werdum was very dangerous he is bjj world champion and he was good enough to capitalize on Fedor's mistake wich was a big big one, jumping on his guard escaping once but werdum wouldent let go that arm and he sank in the choke, everybody knows Fedor would beat him in a rematch 9 of 10 but he displayed perfect technique well deserved victory.
I wonder how many fights Werdum has left on his contract. Strikeforce is in trouble right now after the Dan Henderson loss & now Fedor losing. Overeem will have to wait. If Werdum goes to the UFC after a rematch with Fedor or after beating Overeem, Strikeforce is screwed. It was sad to see Frank Shamrock retire too, I was happy to see it though, I don't want to see a legend & pioneer take abuse. Thanks for the memories Frank.
If I were him, I would do all in my power to NOT have a rematch with Fedor, because...it was a fair win, but most can see that, had Fedor not been reckless, he would have dominated and won - a rematch will most likely end in Fedor's favour. I'd like to see it, but from Werdum's POV, it isn't worth it. Shows he is humble though, if he is serious about it.
Werdum is a lovely guy, and his win was perfectly fair; so people should not argue that it was just a 'fluke'. However, that said, what Werdum is saying is true: Fedor is still the best, and I and most others know that, if he was given another chance, it would end very differently. It might go the same way, but I doubt Fedor is that stupid to repeat his erroneous tactics. He was clearly a more confident striker and was even able to avoid the submissions, but grew reckless.

This respect is pretty good, and it's how MMA ought to be. But there is so much pressure to trash talk nowadays to sell a fight, that fans think is damm boring when they see mutual respect. Its wrong to call the win a fluke -- he capitalized on two mistakes by Fedor and once on, the triangle kept getting tighter causing Fedor to give up the armbar trying to defend -- that is skill plain and simple. after the loss last night, when my brother texted me the result, i was absolutely heartbroken, i watched the fight when i got home and felt better knowing he simply made a mistake and got caught, werdum did his job, but many greats have fallen to fedor, and to be absolutely fair, if he hadnt gotten caught, fedor would have ground and pound and ko'd him like everyone else, possibly in even record time as he looked to be in alice in wonderland when he fell, im really glad to read all the comments

I don't think he'll come back better, sure he might win a rematch, but his status is destroyed and is getting to the age of decline.

@flaviovms I've seen all of Fedor's interviews going back the last 7 yrs. In interviews: People lie, people are told what to say, people keep their mouth shut. He isn't going to admit that's what happened, it would make him look foolish. But just look at the fight, he wasn't the same Fedor of other fights. He looked very singular rather than methodical. Look at his 2nd fight with Nog, then this one, that might show you the same thing I see.

@devrobbiz you just said yourself its the first time youve seen fedor like this. if it was age the decline would have come gradually over several fights and not so sudden like this. id say it just wasnt his day, thats all. could be he was under the weather that day. or had to go under some non mma related stress ( quarrel with the misses perhaps?). if this is the case hed be the same old fedor like before when hes dealt with it. but of cource wed know for shure after seeing his next performance.

@superdruid999 usually true, but Fedor has been taking a long between fights lately, it might be a steep decline (I don't think it will) he's also relied on his incredible punching power the last 3 fights, not speed or ground technicality. I truely think he was trying to impress everyone with a quick TKO of Werdum. I think in his head or subconsciously the people saying, "Well JDS beat Werdum fast! Fedor better do the same or else he's overrated.", got to him and he wanted to prove them wrong.

@devrobbiz i think youre right about the added pressure of the fedor fans seeing him as a god and haters waiting for him to show weaknesses. but i think this loss might mean that some of that weight is lifted off his shoulders. fans are reminded hes only human and haters gett what they want. after a relief like that i expect he'll be back ass his usual methodical cyborg self.

@devrobbiz mutch MUTCH to early to draw conclusions mate. werdum is right, a rematch between werdum and fedor is one to look forward to. sucks to not being able to see fedor fight overeem though. rather see that then seeing werdum fighting overeem......... again :(

@superdruid999 yeah it is to early to see how this fight affects him. I would prefer Werdum face Overeem and then Fedor fight the loser, then if he wins (and a 2nd matchup?) go for the belt. That way we all get to see what we want, we'll just have to wait to see it LoL. I feel ya, I would have prefered seeing Fedor vs Overeem too (maybe this will get him in the UFC?...but doubtful). I picture him bouncing back, killing Werdum & Overeem and then retiring. Though I'll be hoping against him :)

Told you guys Werdum was very dangerous he is bjj world champion and he was good enough to capitalize on Fedor's mistake wich was a big big one, jumping on his guard escaping once but werdum wouldent let go that arm and he sank in the choke, everybody knows Fedor would beat him in a rematch 9 of 10 but he displayed perfect technique well deserved victory.

I wonder how many fights Werdum has left on his contract. Strikeforce is in trouble right now after the Dan Henderson loss & now Fedor losing. Overeem will have to wait. If Werdum goes to the UFC after a rematch with Fedor or after beating Overeem, Strikeforce is screwed. It was sad to see Frank Shamrock retire too, I was happy to see it though, I don't want to see a legend & pioneer take abuse. Thanks for the memories Frank.

If I were him, I would do all in my power to NOT have a rematch with Fedor, because...it was a fair win, but most can see that, had Fedor not been reckless, he would have dominated and won - a rematch will most likely end in Fedor's favour. I'd like to see it, but from Werdum's POV, it isn't worth it. Shows he is humble though, if he is serious about it.

Werdum is a lovely guy, and his win was perfectly fair; so people should not argue that it was just a 'fluke'. However, that said, what Werdum is saying is true: Fedor is still the best, and I and most others know that, if he was given another chance, it would end very differently. It might go the same way, but I doubt Fedor is that stupid to repeat his erroneous tactics. He was clearly a more confident striker and was even able to avoid the submissions, but grew reckless.
