@Amarynthine The acoustics are much different than in a concert hall. The sound of the violin doesn't travel as far (towards the audience) outside.

a) The reason why he's making those faces is because he's deeply involved with the musicality of the piece, trying to interpret it like what the composer wanted it to sound like (what he's "supposed" to do)

b) if you say he's weak, back it up; i'd love to pummel your pathetic visions of why such an inspiring and talented musician can be "weak"

c) if you listen to him play ysaye, you'll be amazed

You're an idiot. You actually can say one thing about why you feel he's not good. As for the face making many musicians do it...You're there to listen to the music, not faces. They can some times be a but distract with some performers but I fail to see how that makes you a 'weak' player

I don't think you should compare him to other violinists. When they get to this level of playing, there's not really much difference in their technical abilities. I love Vengerov's interpretation, and his facial expressions don't make him anything less than an incredible violinist.

I personally prefer Oistrakh's tone and musicality to violinists such as Rabin and Heifetz (I am not saying that they are not good violinists) who tend to play pieces that display their incredible technique. Oh and don't be sorry you are allowed to have an opinion, I just disagree completely.

No one plays Tambourin more accurately and vivaciously than Maxim Vengerov. His recording is literally perfect.

I also like Rabin's version, that's worth listening to also
