(1) A runner cannot execute a roll block. (2) A runner is prohibited from throwing his body at the fielder's body by using a sideways motion. (3) A runner cannot hook or trip the pivot man's legs or crash into the pivot man at second base in a double play situation. 4) A runner is prohibited from sliding in such a way that his entire body is more than three-feet outside or inside a direct line between first and second base. (The runner has to be able to reach the base with his arm or leg)
To make it a definant out he should have stretched and he would have been out but that 2nd base ump is blind he looked right at the guy that grabbed him
That was interference and at the same time violation according to the college baseball rules, that was a double play and yes is ilegal to try to touch another player while he is doing a a play and second baseman was trying to turn a double play. BAD CALL!
anyone notice that the first basemen steped with the wrong foot?? if he stepped with the proper foot (left) he would of gotten the ball quicker and the batter would of been out... none of this would matter
well i have been told that i am better than the adults for 2 reasons: 1. i am never late 2.i am fair and could care less about who wins just what happens
haha im trying to stop laughing at someone thinking the seventh inning in a D-1 College game is the last inning. and another heads up, post season play the games are nine innings..no matter what. look at first round of regionals, you'll see FSU, Miami, Fullerton beating teams by twenty. oh and another thing if they would have called runner interferance both runners would be out.
If the first baseman would have used proper technique and kept in contact on the bag with his right foot, they would have got the out at first anyway.
I know that he tried to cheat and all, but give him a little bit of a break...He was just a kid in this video, his team is down by 1 in the last inning, it's the CWS opening round, and he's got about 3 seconds to think.
It's just bad umping. You call him out for runner interference, not to mention he was out in the first place LOL.
just a heads up college plays 9 innings unlesss the mercy rule is put into effect. which is if a team is down by 10 or more from the 7th inning the game is called. providing that the team trailing has batted in the inning.
They aren't talking about calling the R2 out, they are talking about calling out R1 as well. Obviously R2 is out on the force but R1 could have been called out for runner's interference by R2.
ok im not really good at baseball rules and well just about everything related to baseball but why is that a penalty the guy didnt even fall how is it interference?
Not to make anyone feel bad but this Interfernce not Obstruction. TV is one thing but when we talk to coaches we HAVE TO use the proper terms. Coaches are more educated now.
"I know it's obstruction so why are calling my runner out!" Don't give them any openings. You won't change your call but now he's ammo for the rest of the game.
Agreed on all rule interpretations - but this is a case where umpires even though they're right, may see things differently. This is a pure judgment call on the ob possibility. I would argue that in full speed, it looked like the fielder overcompensated for the grab in his throwing motion. Or acted like he got grabbed and overcompensated looking to draw attention. I probably would have all int here, but that's the beauty of officiating the game.
In this case the runner DID touch the fielder. The question is did the contact PREVENT or HINDER the fielder from making a PLAY. With our using slow mo the fielder caught and threw the ball cleanly to the first base.
In/Ob must have a cause and effect.
The blue is at good angle to see the ball/runner/bag/defender. The grab is tough to see the result is easy. The throw was clean but not in time. If the grab CAUSED a bad/late/no throw Int-out!
HayBlue: I agree with your assessment of the rule, however I disagree with two things. 1.) The ump was actually out of position by being in deep C. While it actually worked to be out of the way of the throw, he was actually off angle and missed the touch completely. Had he been in more traditional C position he would have seen the whole play. 2.) Because he never would have seen the grab/touch he wasn't going to see ob. Had he actually seen the ob, he may have ruled differently.
I see what you are saying. He was on the outfield side of second instead of the 1b side, but where else could he go? He had to avoid the throwing lane.
Of course we are watching this on YouTube and these guys are there. Some times as blues, all we see is what's wrong and don't notice what's right. We need to watch these guys and learn what works too.
i dont feel like that cheat thats risking your body 4 your team and giving it your all im 14 and we dont have rules against that cuz truly i would have slid and rolled 2 the base
if it is rule and he breaks it then i think that would be cheating.. right?
also if the kid had been trying to grab him?...i think that would be cheating because if he got him then that definately would have been an out. so even if the runner didn't touch him but was trying to and the ump saw that than the probably would have given him a warning and called the runnner out at first for even still able to turn the play.
It was the second baseman covering 1st because of the bunt defence. 1st basman charges the bunt, 2nd baseman covers 1st and we all know 2nd basemen aren't known for their 1st base fielding skills.
As a college umpire, the runner reaching out at 2nd grabbed the shortstop which is an automatic interference on the runner which results in the batter/runner being called out. The rule in 06 does not allow the runner to slide past the bag or make a pop-up slide. That rule was changed in 07 but the runner must still slide straight into the bag, not to either side.
no way was that a mental mistake by the 2nd baseman.. he was set up well and the throw was a touch high for any stretch.. with the rule in place.. both should of been out.. but i dont think the hand nore the slide past the bag has any difference in the play.. i'd call them both out because he broke 2 rules
Probably a good no call. The runner couldn't have argued much if interference was called, though. He had no business reaching for the fielder like that.
FUNDAMENTAL MISTAKE: If the second baseman covering first base had made contact with the edge of the first base bag with his right foot (the correct way) instead of stepping near the center of the bag with his left foor, he could have stretched an extra foot or so and the runner migth have been out.
