  • i'm a diehard duck fan but this was back when i rooted for osu because the ducks didn't have a baseball team at the time.

  • good eye....a proper stretch would have got him.

  • Too bad number 14 didn't use his right foot on first base instead of his left. The extra stretch would have gotten the runner.

  • They would have had him at first if the stupid guy covering first would have used the correct foot to touch the base and stretch to reach the ball.

  • beavs win it all so what does it matter in the end

  • wow

  • Though that was an illegal slide, and both runners should have been out, it's not cheating because the ump simply missed the call.

  • (1) A runner cannot execute a roll block. (2) A runner is prohibited from throwing his body at the fielder's body by using a sideways motion. (3) A runner cannot hook or trip the pivot man's legs or crash into the pivot man at second base in a double play situation. 4) A runner is prohibited from sliding in such a way that his entire body is more than three-feet outside or inside a direct line between first and second base. (The runner has to be able to reach the base with his arm or leg)

  • TUCK FULANE!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

  • in my league as long as you make "an attempt" at toughing the base you can slide. so if you're within an arms length of the bag you're fine.

  • Micah wasn't cheating he just wanted some ass

  • You really couldn't strech he had to stay tall so he could catch the ball cause it was hi and that a double play

  • To make it a definant out he should have stretched and he would have been out but that 2nd base ump is blind he looked right at the guy that grabbed him

  • ya you can touch him but he clearly tried to grab his leg

  • two words: college baseball

  • That was interference and at the same time violation according to the college baseball rules, that was a double play and yes is ilegal to try to touch another player while he is doing a a play and second baseman was trying to turn a double play. BAD CALL!

  • anyone notice that the first basemen steped with the wrong foot?? if he stepped with the proper foot (left) he would of gotten the ball quicker and the batter would of been out... none of this would matter

  • it wasn't even the first baseman. the first baseman was in bunt coverage, the second baseman was covering. easy mistake for a secondbaseman to make.

  • u right

  • the first basemen was covering for the bunt. that was actually the second basemen coming from an angle that made it hard to step with the left.

  • hes out

  • was that Josh Hamilton???? wow that was a crazy team Micah Owings and Josh Hamilton wow

  • josh hamilton was originally drafted in 1999 or around there so no it wasnt him

  • ther takin all the fun stuff outa baseball teh contact -.-

  • wait so is grabbing their shirt legal?

  • oh well. beavers won world series 06 and 07. rather have that then a dumb call

  • god i hate this rule.. ive gotten called on it so many times

  • wow i think the baserunner is gay grabbing him like that

  • #1 rule of baseball: It's not gay to touch another man's butt if it's between the foul lines.

  • is that josh hamilton

  • No, Josh Hamilon was drafted right after high school.

  • What a stupid rule, but regardless it is the rule and should have been enforced...

  • I agree.

  • micha owings just wated to grab the 2nd basemans ass :D

  • i saw it tried to hold so he can fall

  • he wanted to injury that short stop lol. he slide like a foot away from the bag

  • he's not cheating he's just gay.

  • smakin the ass at 2:19

    lmao

  • sweet vid.

"cheating" might be a bit much though. do you call it cheating when a basketball player commits a foul? i don't, but that's me...

  • i watched it the reason he said it was safe is because he has his foot on the bag when he has full control

  • Yea and hes a hell of a hitting pitcher

  • micah owings plays for the reds .

  • nice video

  • woah if you watch it with slow-mo the 1st baseman got it

  • hey im 13 and becoming a little league ump and ive done out of the love the game

  • that's good. just make sure to not become a another bad ump.

  • well i have been told that i am better than the adults for 2 reasons: 1. i am never late 2.i am fair and could care less about who wins just what happens

  • it should have been clled interference

  • this play wouldn't have even mattered if the 1st basemen would've had the right foot on the bag. you can't stretch w/ your glove-foot on the bag

  • agree...

  • tulane cheats in all sports!!!!

    suck it tulane!

  • CWS is awesome...

  • Go OSU!

  • haha im trying to stop laughing at someone thinking the seventh inning in a D-1 College game is the last inning. and another heads up, post season play the games are nine innings..no matter what. look at first round of regionals, you'll see FSU, Miami, Fullerton beating teams by twenty. oh and another thing if they would have called runner interferance both runners would be out.

  • Upon further review it's actually the second baseman who takes the throw, but he still should have used his right foot on the bag.

  • If the first baseman would have used proper technique and kept in contact on the bag with his right foot, they would have got the out at first anyway.

  • I know that he tried to cheat and all, but give him a little bit of a break...He was just a kid in this video, his team is down by 1 in the last inning, it's the CWS opening round, and he's got about 3 seconds to think.

It's just bad umping. You call him out for runner interference, not to mention he was out in the first place LOL.

  • just a heads up college plays 9 innings unlesss the mercy rule is put into effect. which is if a team is down by 10 or more from the 7th inning the game is called. providing that the team trailing has batted in the inning.

  • the ten run rule hardly ever gets used anymore in most conferences

  • They aren't talking about calling the R2 out, they are talking about calling out R1 as well. Obviously R2 is out on the force but R1 could have been called out for runner's interference by R2.

  • ok im not really good at baseball rules and well just about everything related to baseball but why is that a penalty the guy didnt even fall how is it interference?

  • maybe he wnated some ass

  • lol

  • This was definitely interference and it should have been ruled a double play due to the interference.

  • And my beavs still spanked there sorry assess. GO BEAVS!!!

  • Very smart... doing it at a televised game... real smart buddy.

  • i know really

  • and THAT ladys and gentlemen is why NOBODY likes Tulane

  • haha wtf looks like hes tryin to grab the 2nd baseman's ass

  • Was it Micah Owings from the cincinnatti reds?, and josh hamilton from the rangers?

  • No. Not at all.

    Hamilton never played College Ball.

    And wrong Owings.

  • it is micah owings

  • The player is Mark Hamilton he plays in the St. Louis system, I met him through a Cape Cod Baseball league camp

  • Micah Owings pitches for the Dbacks.

  • not anymore he got traded

  • lol i know its the second baseman but he had the wrong foot on the base at first.

  • Not to make anyone feel bad but this Interfernce not Obstruction. TV is one thing but when we talk to coaches we HAVE TO use the proper terms. Coaches are more educated now.

"I know it's obstruction so why are calling my runner out!" Don't give them any openings. You won't change your call but now he's ammo for the rest of the game.

  • looked like he almost touched his ass lol!

  • Agreed on all rule interpretations - but this is a case where umpires even though they're right, may see things differently. This is a pure judgment call on the ob possibility. I would argue that in full speed, it looked like the fielder overcompensated for the grab in his throwing motion. Or acted like he got grabbed and overcompensated looking to draw attention. I probably would have all int here, but that's the beauty of officiating the game.

  • NCAA/MLB/HS have diffrent slide rules.

In this case the runner DID touch the fielder. The question is did the contact PREVENT or HINDER the fielder from making a PLAY. With our using slow mo the fielder caught and threw the ball cleanly to the first base.

In/Ob must have a cause and effect.

The blue is at good angle to see the ball/runner/bag/defender. The grab is tough to see the result is easy. The throw was clean but not in time. If the grab CAUSED a bad/late/no throw Int-out!

  • HayBlue: I agree with your assessment of the rule, however I disagree with two things. 1.) The ump was actually out of position by being in deep C. While it actually worked to be out of the way of the throw, he was actually off angle and missed the touch completely. Had he been in more traditional C position he would have seen the whole play. 2.) Because he never would have seen the grab/touch he wasn't going to see ob. Had he actually seen the ob, he may have ruled differently.

  • I see what you are saying. He was on the outfield side of second instead of the 1b side, but where else could he go? He had to avoid the throwing lane.

Of course we are watching this on YouTube and these guys are there. Some times as blues, all we see is what's wrong and don't notice what's right. We need to watch these guys and learn what works too.

  • Who won?

  • i dont feel like that cheat thats risking your body 4 your team and giving it your all im 14 and we dont have rules against that cuz truly i would have slid and rolled 2 the base

  • Then you need to learn the rules. If you roll into 2nd base you are out the runner at 1st is out and you are out of the game.

  • @imsobored17 he grabs him to try to keep him from making the throw, what the hell about that ISN'T cheating?

    you are dense!

  • @imsobored17 at the college level they have rules against it so somebodys shot to make the majors isnt ruined because of a slide like that.

  • @imsobored17 i believe he tried to grab with his right hand at 1:30

  • Ty Cobb would have cracked his hip bone with his spikes.

  • The commentary is a perfect example of hindsight

  • if you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough

  • what??? thats not cheating, he just wanted some ass.

  • LOL

  • the umps just suck as much as tulane does

  • I would have punched that guy running to second in the face... what a loser...

  • tulane must be a little funny grabbing other guys butts...

  • win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat.

  • thats what im sayin

  • haha he grabed his butt

  • did he say micah or mike owing?

  • it doesnt matter if they cheated or not becouse i bet oregon st. wins the whole tourny!!!!!!

  • oregon state did win the tourney

  • oregon st. won the tourney the next year not that year

  • That dirty cheater.

  • this isnt cheating

other than things like steroids and scandals

there is no cheating in baseball

this is just smart baserunning if you dont get caught

  • if it is rule and he breaks it then i think that would be cheating.. right?

also if the kid had been trying to grab him?...i think that would be cheating because if he got him then that definately would have been an out. so even if the runner didn't touch him but was trying to and the ump saw that than the probably would have given him a warning and called the runnner out at first for even still able to turn the play.

  • Its illegal in college

  • couldnt have said it better myself.

  • interference on lead runner. after hear the rule explained by the color commentary, he reached out and grabbed the shortstop with his left arm

  • 1st basman stretched with the wrong foot, might have made a difference

  • It was the second baseman covering 1st because of the bunt defence. 1st basman charges the bunt, 2nd baseman covers 1st and we all know 2nd basemen aren't known for their 1st base fielding skills.

  • stuff like this happens all the time...

  • wow they cheated and the runner was out at first great job umps not!

  • As a college umpire, the runner reaching out at 2nd grabbed the shortstop which is an automatic interference on the runner which results in the batter/runner being called out. The rule in 06 does not allow the runner to slide past the bag or make a pop-up slide. That rule was changed in 07 but the runner must still slide straight into the bag, not to either side.

  • no way was that a mental mistake by the 2nd baseman.. he was set up well and the throw was a touch high for any stretch.. with the rule in place.. both should of been out.. but i dont think the hand nore the slide past the bag has any difference in the play.. i'd call them both out because he broke 2 rules

  • Probably a good no call. The runner couldn't have argued much if interference was called, though. He had no business reaching for the fielder like that.

  • What would you have called it? I would called both runners out. Tulane cheated.

  • The people who said "this was not cheating" don't know the rules of college baseball.

  • Yeah the slide was good and hard nosed. But the grab was bush league.

  • Tulane the green wave the GREEN CHEATERS!

  • I dunno. That looks kinda incidental to me.

  • very strong throw by the second baseman

  • was this from 05? if it was, they lost that game

  • FUNDAMENTAL MISTAKE: If the second baseman covering first base had made contact with the edge of the first base bag with his right foot (the correct way) instead of stepping near the center of the bag with his left foor, he could have stretched an extra foot or so and the runner migth have been out.

  • Yeah, it's cheating. They broke the rules. That's the definition of cheating.

  • Who cares Beavers won in '06

  • thats a dumb rule. He shouldnt have been allowed to grab him though

  • man i am an lsu fan so go waves

  • guess who won!!!

    go beavs

  • typical TU-LAME response!

  • U know that OSU are the beavers right? Not the Tigers.

  • lady wave, how many championships in ANYTHING do your precious wave have.thats what i thought.count em for the Tigers please.and it was dirty cuz he grabbed hiw with his right hand.
