Why must these folks always rant, rave, and gesticulate as though they're absolutely out of their mind? Wouldn't it be more convincing, since it's not true, if they at least presented it as sane people?

I get that people should love God more than anything - as the love of God increases their love of everthing else anyway. But I dont think we should love Jesus more than anyone or anything. He was just a man. He wasn't pure love. Alot of what he says is God-like, but there are also many cases in the Bible where he shows a distinct lack of compassion and love.

Jesus was a flawed teacher of God's love, just like every other teacher of God's love has been flawed.

Christ washed His disciples' feet like a common slave. In His Lordship, He calls us "friends" & gave His life "as a ransom for many."

Were He just another human, His demands for total & complete adoration WOULD be egomaniacal.

But what other human has accomplished what He has?

Is a Lighthouse an "egomanic" because it captures & demands the attention of ships at sea? Or is it just a natural consequence?

People are either worthy of our love, or not. They should not need to command it. That's just neediness.

You sent me this note, Hedgepiglet...so I'll bite. If we were we talking about any other human, then yes, that'd be needy.

But the thing is - God is not just another "Guy" Who works at the gas station. We are not His equal.

He's gracious to include humanity in His Life, but He needs no one. "Heaven & earth will pass away but My words will never pass away."

Some are called to receive His words, some never will...but anyway ya slice it...at the end of the day, He's God & we're not.

I guess it depends whether you believe Jesus actually IS God. I am reading Gospel of Mathew at the moment (never read a Bible before). So far, it seems to me that Jesus was generally a very wise man, but there are certain things he said and did that do not seem God-like to me. He didn't seem very fond of Gentiles for a start. Prejudice is surely a human thing - God is not prejudiced!

Yes, in one verse, He tells a woman that He can't throw the food that was meant for the children to dogs. But as you continue, you'll see He speaks of all the other sheep who will become part of His fold. And in Hebrews, Paul speaks of how God never said to any of the angels, "Sit at My right hand." This is a rank God has determined to only share with One, His perfect sacrifice, Yeshua. But keep reading, the Gospels reveal the full nature of God's unyielding truth, but amazing grace.
