I miss my old blazer, its on my youtube, BUT it was always causing headaches. So I am kinda glad its gone. I did a lot to it and it was still slow :( FAST for a blazer, Slow compared to everything else lol.

@masongalbraith I agree, my 4runnerhas 262,620 miles and it has only had some gaskets and the alternator go out since 1988!! Not even the clutch has gone.
o2's are pain in the asses. my dads old cavi set the light off twice but we got er fixed for good now... idt my blazer is this fast, id try it but idk if my tranny would hold haha. it probably would, but ive been taking it easy on her for awhile, just for good measure. 156k miles on the 97 so far and going strong
No, these 4.3L motors made good low end torque plus a well executed launch would send these trucks jumping off the line quick. You've probably never driven the Vortec 4300.
@corvetteboy10 Actually with my 2001 blazer the engine light was on for fuel pump, which they go bad easily which i suggest a NAPA fuel filter and pump, then my transmission which i suggest to just rebuild it, but the engine light most of the time is fuel pump when it's running fine

ha...i got a blazer as well, there is a shit ton of power up till 60 then you lose it all, basically just bc gm was trying to make small truck be able to tow shit, which they did and ill give em credit
@hygeneisstupid Now it makes power all the way up, I took off the muffler and cats, and I got a custom tune. Runs real good now, and I get 17 mpg in town, 22 on hwy
ya i got a high flow magnaflow cat, and a flowmaster super 44, sounds decent and i got some more power....wat kind of tune did you get? just the computer programmed for different shift points and such?
I got an 89 octane tune from Wait4Me. Just had them delete out the post cat o2 sensors, firm up the shifts, and a few other little things. Shift points stayed about the same, it just shift firmer due to that and my corvette servo. Money well spent. A little better mpg, too.
@badmonk3829 dude every zr2 has the check engine light on at least once a week, its common, mine comes on if i fill the tank up, floor it, hit a bump, hit a bug, anything sets it off lol
I actually just bought it about a month ago. So haven't had much time with it. I did own one a few years ago...but, umm...kinda totalled it! Haha! Live and learn, this is part of why I said "I'd never do that to my truck".

You're too funny. You make the comment that since I floored my truck once, it's being abused, which is the most rediculous statement I've heard in some time. The o2 sensor doesn't go bad because I "beat on it", it was that fact that there was a bosch sensor of the wrong type installed by the previous owner.

And, frankly...I don't really agree with flooring a vehicle & having it do any bit of good for it. Fuel injector/carb. cleaner, yeah...clean the bitch out. Stomping on it...not so much! Thats gotta be good for the drivetrain! Hahahaha!
Also, have you flushed the Dex-Cool out of your 4.3? If not, you desperately need to. I've flushed mine, replaced the therm. and rad cap, and filled with 50/50 mix of Prestone green.
I have heard a lot of horror stories about DexCool. My father has a 98 Blazer that fell victim to DexCool problems at 28K mies. The GM dealer told him never to use DexCool again. He has used Prestone green since then and has never had any problems since he stopped using DexCool and he now has 142K Miles on his Blazer.
well yes, in terms of the injectors coupled with fuel injection cleaner, and flooring it, yes that does help, but you are right, it beats on the driveshaft, the rear, and the transmission. now personally our 99 suburban is a tank, so we are not really worried, because we have owned it for 4 years, and floor it when ever we are on a major interstate. which is about 1 a month. peace anyway bro, and take good care of that Chevy, she will reward you in the long haul.
Yup, had a bottle of Chevron Techron in the tank here. I floor mine about once a month as well, and have found no negative effects. I've changed the trans fluid and filter, rear end fluid, and u joints, so I think I'm good to go.
The 4.3 Vortec is (basically) bulletproof regardless of what anyone does to it. I just can't bring myself to do "that" to my kick-ass truck.
I have no warning lights on and wanna keep it that way.
I have to ask, does yours have quite a bit of cabin noise? Sounds like poor design to me. Like, too many plastic panels and not enough insulation. My other ZR-2 was the same way, and all the others I've driven/ridden in.
I have no warning lights either, now. I replaced that sensor with an ACDelco and it went off that day. I now have a Wait4Me tune, as well, and it's a whole new truck. Flooring a vehicle occasionally is GOOD for it, dead serious. All that buildup has to come out somehow, and fuel injector cleaner can't get everywhere.
Yes, the fit and finish of the S-10's arent great. Just the nature of the beast.
I haven't flushed out the Dex-Cool, but the old dude before me (only other owner) did. He also replaced the heater core...guess he had some issues. I have paperwork on it, along with all the records.
(Even a receipt from a Chevy dealer when he had a brake light bulb replaced. I mean, c'mon!)
I'm considering some upgrades, seeing as the warranty on most things has expired. But first I'm gonna see how she handles thru the snow. Fuckin' Vermont.
I'm thinkin' bigger tires but have been told I can't go above 33" without modifying anything else. Is this true? I still have the factory recommended 31" BFGoodrich. Also thinkin about a full brushguard, Alteeza lights, HID headlights. Just the smaller shit to start with. Not sure what direction it's gonna go in yet. I also have a Ford Explorer Sport. Best of both worlds! Haha!
Bigger tires will be a good investment. Not sure about the ZR2's, but I have 31x1050 Cooper STTs and they are amazing. The biggest size on a non-Z blazer with no lift. 33's might be a little big, but idk. Get a custom tune, you'll love it. I got mine from Wait4Me and I really like it.
I plan on 6000k hid's too, and some small wheel spacers to make the rear as wide as the front, none on the front though.
the 1995 blazer was the most powerful 195hp (some sites claim 200hp) and 260lb of tourque 2004 is 195hp and 250lbs after 1995 they changed the fuel injection system to meet emissions lowering hp and torque
By a small amount, but that CPI system in those was garbage. Plus they changed the fuel injection because the MPFI is more reliable, but still keeps torque and hp
Ok is it ok to push these 4.3l engines past 4500 RPMs ? Because I pushed my 99 bravada pretty hard tonight and it reved up past 4500 and now my exhaust tick is a little louder it seems.
idk i pushed my 2001 blazer to the floor one night and i blew the plastic fan apart as soon as it hit 5000rpm. doing that also put holes in my radiator cuz of the fan. so i dont push it that hard anymore haha. but plenty of torque to shoot those ricers off the line.
It's a custom tune from Wait4Me Performance. They can change whatever, but it gave me more power, stronger shifting, and 2 mpg. It costs $100, but you that's sending your PCM off and you can't drive till you get it back (bout a week)
oh ok. thanks alot. anything to increase my fuel mileage would be worth it, filled up last night and averaged 12mpg. i drive it normal and ive tuned it with plugs cap rotor, fuel system cleaner, and tried everything to do with my intake, like cold air and back to stock box. it still sucks
Wow, that's terrible MPG. I got about 14 before the tune, but I have 31" mud tires. Did you use ACDelco parts for the tune up? If not, that's probably why MPG is so bad.
Supercharge that 3.4 and it would outpull that 4.3, the supercharger was a dealer installed option. :p
Nice truck though. I like older vehicles more than new vehicles which are thrown together with plastic. Back in the day automakers actually used metal and didn't listen to those faggot enviromentalists as much as today.
I took it up there and had it read (bout 2 weeks ago, bout a week after SES light went off), there were no active codes so the guy said if it doesn't come on again don't worry, then about a week later my catalytic converter cracked... now it sounds like a box of rocks...
If your state doesn't have inspections, get it gutted and get a flowmaster or something. (if you want) if your state has inspections, itll have to be replaced
We don't have inspections, but we have VEIP emissions inspections through the OBD-II and since it has a downstream oxygen sensor, that would probably make it fail. As of now there is no loss of performance and no SES light, it's just annoying as can be.

Gotta love it, or something...I guess?!

Haha!
Variety is good, very good!

I plan on 6000k hid's too, and some small wheel spacers to make the rear as wide as the front, none on the front though.

acdelco, such a wonderful brand and friend of gm, love they're parts.

the 1995 blazer was the most powerful 195hp (some sites claim 200hp) and 260lb of tourque 2004 is 195hp and 250lbs after 1995 they changed the fuel injection system to meet emissions lowering hp and torque
homiegmarkster 2 years ago
By a small amount, but that CPI system in those was garbage. Plus they changed the fuel injection because the MPFI is more reliable, but still keeps torque and hp
cnocher02 2 years ago
Ok is it ok to push these 4.3l engines past 4500 RPMs ? Because I pushed my 99 bravada pretty hard tonight and it reved up past 4500 and now my exhaust tick is a little louder it seems.
oldsmobiletw 2 years ago
I guess, my redline starts at 5200 and thats when it always shifts at WOT. That is completely stock except for the Super 44 (had cats at the time)
cnocher02 2 years ago
idk i pushed my 2001 blazer to the floor one night and i blew the plastic fan apart as soon as it hit 5000rpm. doing that also put holes in my radiator cuz of the fan. so i dont push it that hard anymore haha. but plenty of torque to shoot those ricers off the line.
slipknot11080 2 years ago
Oops =O
But they are torque machines, and now with my Wait4Me tune, it pulls like hell
cnocher02 2 years ago
how much was your tuner and wut exactly does it change
slipknot11080 2 years ago
It's a custom tune from Wait4Me Performance. They can change whatever, but it gave me more power, stronger shifting, and 2 mpg. It costs $100, but you that's sending your PCM off and you can't drive till you get it back (bout a week)
cnocher02 2 years ago
oh ok. thanks alot. anything to increase my fuel mileage would be worth it, filled up last night and averaged 12mpg. i drive it normal and ive tuned it with plugs cap rotor, fuel system cleaner, and tried everything to do with my intake, like cold air and back to stock box. it still sucks
slipknot11080 2 years ago
Wow, that's terrible MPG. I got about 14 before the tune, but I have 31" mud tires. Did you use ACDelco parts for the tune up? If not, that's probably why MPG is so bad.

nice im an explorer person tho

Not the fastest, but I like Blazers. Chevy is a good company. A 3.4 4Runner would outrun a blazer though.
BuhundredReturns 2 years ago
Think so? I bet my Chevy will outpull that 3.4 anyday
cnocher02 2 years ago
Supercharge that 3.4 and it would outpull that 4.3, the supercharger was a dealer installed option. :p
Nice truck though. I like older vehicles more than new vehicles which are thrown together with plastic. Back in the day automakers actually used metal and didn't listen to those faggot enviromentalists as much as today.
BuhundredReturns 2 years ago
I like my naturally aspirated, iron block/heads, and torque machine that is the 4.3 :)
Preciate that
cnocher02 2 years ago
Does that have a Flowmaster? Cause my brothers has a Flowmaster and sounds like that.

yup

whats the SES on light for?
nucleartractor 2 years ago
It's a Blazer, that's why. Mine hardly ever goes out.
ScottXC91 2 years ago
Mine was only the o2 sensor behind the cat, no big deal
cnocher02 2 years ago
Yeah, mines probably something like that.
ScottXC91 2 years ago
For some reason, I got a SES light for emissions, then in a week it went away... Am I gonna fail emissions next time?
nucleartractor 2 years ago
I dont know. Might wanna have adv auto or someone check it out, should be free to read the code
cnocher02 2 years ago
I took it up there and had it read (bout 2 weeks ago, bout a week after SES light went off), there were no active codes so the guy said if it doesn't come on again don't worry, then about a week later my catalytic converter cracked... now it sounds like a box of rocks...
nucleartractor 2 years ago
If your state doesn't have inspections, get it gutted and get a flowmaster or something. (if you want) if your state has inspections, itll have to be replaced
cnocher02 2 years ago
We don't have inspections, but we have VEIP emissions inspections through the OBD-II and since it has a downstream oxygen sensor, that would probably make it fail. As of now there is no loss of performance and no SES light, it's just annoying as can be.
nucleartractor 2 years ago
yeah, I'd just have it replaced then
cnocher02 2 years ago
i have a 2.2 in my s10, and i want to turbo it, what would be a safe psi level for a daily driver?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
safe and conservative, probly from 8-12 psi. Might wanna ask someone who knows real well because I'm not an expert for sure
cnocher02 2 years ago
thanks.
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
a safe boost level is get a 2.8V6 and run 8-10psi. its just not even worth it with the baby 4 banger
blazerboy525 2 years ago
wow, i didnt know that there was a turbo kit for the 2.8. i would rather have that anyways. thanks
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
9.53 seconds
150peacemaker 2 years ago
AKA slow as fuck lol
Love my Blazer though, I don't buy trucks for speed
cnocher02 2 years ago
hey bro, dont feel sad. My P.O.S. 3.8l camaro is slower then your blazer
150peacemaker 2 years ago
Nah, I ain't. My cuz has a 97 3.8 'maro and that thing is perty damn quick
cnocher02 2 years ago
is it stick? the stick is conciderably faster then the automatic
150peacemaker 2 years ago
nope
cnocher02 2 years ago
2004? by then it is a trailblazer
nintendozelda98 2 years ago
Nah, they still made the Blazer up until 2005, it was just entry level
cnocher02 2 years ago
by this time did you put the tune yet
nintendozelda98 2 years ago
nope, this is stock
cnocher02 2 years ago
how much horsepower it got is it lower than a vortec 4200 or faster
nintendozelda98 2 years ago
its got 190 hp stock, 260 torque
probably slower than the I6 4.2
cnocher02 2 years ago
the i6 has 291 hp in it
