piont of interest!!! it is not a 1943,, it is a 1942 Lithgow No 1 Mk 111*...it tells you this on the steel collar that houses the butt stock onto the action...the 1943 on the butt stock is when it was first issued to a unit or company!!!
My old Smelly is also a Lithgow model. My No 1 Mk.III happens to be dated 1915, and has the magazine cut off floor plate in addition to the long range volley sights. I shoot paper patched cast bullets that weigh 200 grains. It's an accurate old rifle -- I like it a lot.
