maybe if they had "tuna farms" started up they could start getting their tuna there instead of the wild ones. i understand how important it is for fishermen, but thats being selfish when you think in a near future- they will be extinct at this rate. its seems to me the japanese are the most people who do not think of the future of their actions today.

Simply making regulations for the animals in danger of extinction doesn't clear the problem. We need to find a new way of eating. It is not only about Tuna. Scientist says that we will be having global food problem near future. We might find a way if the scientists in the world gather their knowledge together.

@altarickorean Scientists who study, understand and analyze population dynamics are the ones who are able to make conclusions. If catch numbers are low, then it is a pretty good assumption that population numbers are low too. Sorry to say that not all fisheries are honest in their catches which can skew the numbers. If you want to know more look up scietific research papers on bluefin tuna (via google scholar) How can u conclude that they are not endangered?

@godmode9 Actually nature does take into account the effects. Natural Selection is a process that basically "weeds out" orgainsims that are not able to survive and reproduce successfully. The ecosystem as a whole balances what is going on within that area. People overharvesting/overhunting etc is not an act of natural selection. Organisms in a habitat take what they need and use it.
