This was my favorite generation of the BMW 3 series! Chris Bangle honestly ruined the heart and soul of all the BMW's with his designs! It's not that his designs were bad, they were actually nice looking cars, but they just weren't the BMW designs.

i own a 2006 laguna seca drop top,only bad thing i can mention is the servicing costs and parts,also get to many boy racers trying it,get a life! Last thing if you do not like a attention do not purchase the car in this colour,it get's way too much attention,and yes the ladies love it!!! :)

Nice car when everything is fine, but little things go wrong almost all the time. I bought 2003 model facelifted a while ago. Regreted ever since! One of the worst cars I have come across! 60k miles and I think this BMW so called high tech LSD was fucked. And because of the rock hard suspension everything ratteles at you all the time! List could go on and on (expensive to insure if you are young, annoying exhaust after a while and straight 6 sounding like fucked 4 cylinder1.8 etc). never again!

I own a 2001 e46 m3 coupe..This guy is VERY ACCURATE in his description of how this car feels. This is simply the best car ive EVER OWNED and nothing else ive ever driven delivers all around performance like this thing..and YES, LADIES DO LOVE IT!! E46 FOR LIFE !!!!! I have an e92 now, but shit, the E46 is the BEST CAR EVER MADE. There is absolutely no greater car than the E46 M3, it's the B-E-S-T CAR OF ALL TIME. OMFG e46 IS SO AMAZING OMG WTF !!! Forget coming out with F30, just BRING BACK e46 FOREVER !!!!!

Just bought one of these 2 days ago. what a car! the roar it makes when you put your foot down is just unbelievable! one question. I got an smg (i dont like manual) and it has this feature where i can set the rev high or low. I put it on lowest when just driving around localy to save petrol, is that ok or is it bad for the car??

The e46 m3 was not around in 2000. Y reg was 2001 which is when the production of this car began. March 2001 onwards

thats cool. Yea the m3 is a fun car. Just be carefull and make sure it was well maintained other wise you will have loads of trouble. Mine started acting up this week. otherwise its been problem free.

What should i look for in a good used car??? anything in particular, or what would you recommend.. we know about BMWs we have 1988 M5, and it halls a**, i love the BMW straight 6's.. they are perfect.. but unfortunately putting 300,000 miles on a car has it's downfall.. keeping up with maintenance is KEY!

look for cars built past 2003.5. There was a recall on cars built 2001-2003.5. Have the dealer do a PPI on it befor you buy it. There have been several 3 series with subframe cracking. Due to a class action lawsuit bmw dealers will fix this for free.

Be prepared to do maintainance yourself because it gets pricy.

Only use castrol TWS 10w-60 motor oil. It was made for the m3 anything else can cause problems.

Its definatly a fun car to drive, i love it. But maintaining it is a bitch.

ok, when you say maintaining, do you mean like changing fluids, brakes, tired ect?? or like major problems, diffs, driveshafts, ect.. we've been to mars and back with the M5, so i expect some, but nothing horrible.. Do you mean changing oil every 3,000 miles, just stupid stuff?? right???

you should get the m3 because since your dad was an f1 driver, he would want you in a car that handles as well as goes fast in a straight line... the charger is better suited going in a straight line... not curves.

if you're looking at one, get the 6 speed, NOt the SMG, it's hard because you gotta know when to shift, and plus it takes more HP off the crank to run an automatic tranny. if you can't drive a stick and happen to have an SMG, go online and see what people do to get the most outta the SMG........ check out my video with me driving the M3, it was an SMG, i was not impressed

dude i own an m3 with smg 2, i am stricly anti auto gearboxes as i like to feel involved, but the smg box once ure used to it is a AMAZING! firstly is is actually a manual gearbox electronically controlled. gearshifts are brilliant and if like me you get the chance of having one with paddle shifts, off the line sprints are brillaintly fun. makes u feel like a f1 driver. however i took me about a month to get used to it.
