They are Mandarin speaking even back in Singapore. Fann Wong, despite the fact that she attended English medium schools, speaks Mandarin most of the time.

Chris is Malaysian and apparently, he was educated in Chinese. He basically cannot converse in English.

There's quite a bit of difference, actually. I guess malaysians and singaporeans can tell the difference, but mainly the latter speak a lot faster? And a more 'malay'-ish pronounciation in the Malaysian accent. I think. Not very sure how to describe, though..
