But he shoots about 100 times more per season than Sid, so of course he'll get the goals. Perfect example: 3rd goal of game 7 Pens/Caps, Sid pulls up and looks for the trailer. Ovie will never do that in a million years. He'll shoot the low percentage shot 100% of the time.
I have to respectfully disagree about the stickhandling. Watch Sid starting just after 1:30 in this video, the way he just toys with defensemen. Ovie drives to the net every time he has the puck, and the few times he doesn't get picked off, it's a great highlight. But that rarely happens. Sid's success rate in those situations is way higher, he just doesn't try to take on multiple defenders nearly as often. This is also why Ovie led the league in giveaways this past season.

@akbar232323 gretzkys era of hockey was not nearly as skilled as todays. defense is much better now, goalies pads are bigger and better, net size is smaller... go look at a gretzky video and watch how simplistic his stick handling was and how it still worked and got the goal, the shit he did would not fly in todays NHL. seriously go watch a gretzky video and notice his skating, stick handling, and his goals and then watch crosbys stuff and compare todays NHL to how it used to be.

@akbar232323 I'm not saying that Sid is better than either Lemieux or GetZky, but Lemieux said today after the Penguins vs Capitals alumni game that if Sid were playing in that era, he would easily be putting up the numbers that Gretzky and Lemieux did. It's a new era of hockey, like you said. But with that new era comes faster, stronger and more versatile players playing against Sid, yet Sid can still do what he does. He's unbelievable.

Crosby isn't going to beat alot of Gretzky's records, only because the goalies now are way more versatile and they have bigger pads. Crosby is a top five player in the league, but if you think that the team he plays on doesn't contribute to his success you do not know the game. He plays with Malkin, the BEST overall player in the league. Ovie has Semin and Backstrom true, but they do not equal Malkin. Who thinks if you have Ovie and Crosby switch teams last year, the Pens still win the Cup....I do!!!! Four #1 or 2 picks in the draft from 2004-2007, the Pens had better win with that advantage.

O.v is great but my vote is with Sid. I hear everyone say that Sid has a better team on his side which is the only way he's up on #8 right now. C'mon. Only partly true. Sid played most of the year with Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis. Two years ago he won the scoring race playing with the 85 year old Mark Rechi and John Leclair who skated like he had a piano tied to his ass. I'd like to see just how many more points Sid would have playing with former MVP Federov, Green, or Semin!!

Agree 100%. Sure, Ovechkin has scored 60 goals, but he has given up that puck a couple hundred times because all he thinks is shoot. Sid CAN shoot (See this past playoff run) and pass. Sidney will develop into a true captain, much like Yzerman, Sakic and Iginla.

Why do you think so? Just curious. Stick handling, passing, and vision goes to Sid in my opinion. I think Ovie's got the nastier shot. But he shoots about 100 times more per season than Sid, so of course he'll get the goals. Perfect example: 3rd goal of game 7 Pens/Caps, Sid pulls up and looks for the trailer. Ovie will never do that in a million years. He'll shoot the low percentage shot 100% of the time.

I have to respectfully disagree about the stickhandling. Watch Sid starting just after 1:30 in this video, the way he just toys with defensemen. Ovie drives to the net every time he has the puck, and the few times he doesn't get picked off, it's a great highlight. But that rarely happens. Sid's success rate in those situations is way higher, he just doesn't try to take on multiple defenders nearly as often. This is also why Ovie led the league in giveaways this past season.

But the thing is Ovie does not easily keep the puck away from defenders. Like I said, he led the league in giveaways. Look up the stats. Crosby dominates in a different way than Ovie. Ovie rips 500+ shots at the net a season (he's already 2nd all-time for shots in a season) and he finishes about 10 goals ahead of the next guy, who takes about 200 less shots. Crosby leads by setting up teammates, and creating plays that other players don't have ability to create.

Amen. If people would watch a hockey game once at any level, they'd see players talking to refs after blown calls, and getting after players after cheap shots. For some odd reason, Crosby is labeled a "whiner" when he does it. As Biggy Smalls said, mo money, mo problems. When you're this good, you have a target on your back.
