When I add a new ringtone (mp3) it shows up on the BitPim list but not on my phone. It only will work if I name the file one of the original names of a ringtone on my phone and then "Overwrite" that ringtone... any suggestions? Turn my phone off and back on, nothing shows up.
If you it is taking forever to open the folder, then that means you have to download the LG usb modem driver and install that. Once that is installed open up bitpim and plug in phone. Once the phone is plugged in, click detect phone and no pop up should appear. Then you go to Edit - settings and change the phone to voyager. Click ok. Now you would be able to follow the video.
This is gonna sound dumb . But , I'm getting this phone in a while , I know , it's old and all but I just want a slide phone . How do I connect it to my computer? Is there a USB cable in the box? Thanks . [=
Also if your brew is empty and it just has a folder that says Mod. go down and start at media folder not brew. then lk and ms. its probably empty and has one file in it. just open your folder and drag and drop the music file into there. and go up to the arrow pointing at the phone. NOt the arrow pointing away from the phone but the second one. Check all of them except the last one and push ok. disconnect. open phone. sound/audio settings. set ringtone. [Your song]. thats how I did it.
I found out how to make Filesystem to show. After hours of configuration this is how you do it. Open BitPim. Click on View. Check View Filesystem. Done
For those who don't know, if you use an SD card, the mp3 file will NOT be added into the ringtones list automatically on the lg banter. that's the reason for this video.
My usb cord if plugged from my phone to the computer and still, everytime i try to detect it it says "failed to auto-detect the port to use. I couldn't detect any candidate ports". Any helps please ?
Tried it an still can't get it to work! It keeps saying " COM5 Could Not Open Port: (2, ' Create File', The System Could Not Find The File Specified. ' )
Ok just to make sure everybody gets that clear too... After disconnecting the phone (if you succeeded in seeing your new ringtones), if you wanna do these steps again in order to get new ringtones on your phone you ALWAYS need to start right back at the beginning, and this includes going into dload, deleting lgmysound.dat, etc. (the file reappears after restarting the phone). Because you won't be able to see your ringtones if you don't. Got it figured out on another forum! Thx this is great!
@andreeanneouellet hey just picked up a lg banter.IF i take it in /if anything is wrong with it. will they detect id deleted/put my own stuff in? does it load onto a sd card i put in or on its onboard memory?
@damianson Not sure what your question is but... yes it's onboard memory that we're talking about and I don't think Bitpim cares whether your "ID" is okay or not. If you can reach it and change it, then no problem.
Ok, so I got it to work with one ringtone on my phone... but then when I want to add more, it doesn't work anymore! I restarted the phone and BitPim a couple of times now, and still doesn't work... Is there something I'm missing? Thanks to help!
@donv2420 : I had the same problem but if you google MSVCP71.zip you will find places on the net to download that missing file. When you find it, open it up, tgrab the DLL and put it in the bitpim folder located in myprograms and it should work. Worked for me..

Ok, I'm trying this again, didn't work before. How do I save it? It still has the changes I made before on BitPim, but they didn't change on my phone. (all the default ringtones I deleted are still on my phone) When I click send data to phone, it gives me an error. I need help! Just to know how to actually save it to my phone.
ok i goot this to work perfectly, im gonna try clarify any problems
once youve dwnloaded bitpim, boot it up and plug in your phone using the usb cable (or purchase 1 from the store, im sure theyre cheap). click on find phone, itll be busy for a bit, and say that it found "other phone" on com 5 or somthing similar. now go to edit, settings, and select lg voyager as your phone, click ok, then do wxactly like he does above it should work. Also the mysounds.dat file, is located at dload
Ok I got it to work, it wasn't working before because i had my micro SD card in the phone.. anyways, how do I save it now? do i press send phone data? it didnt work for me..
thanks for the video, but i have an issue- when i went into filesystem, it said "failed to auto-detect the port to use. I couldn't detect any candidate ports." ... haha, what do i do?! D:
Hey, thank you for the video. It seems simple, but I don't have anything that says "File System" under mine. What should I do about that? Is there something you did before the start of the video or when you plugged in the phone? Please get back to me if you can.
Sooo for wtv reason I thought I could rid the factory tones, which I could. I can still view them on my cell although there's no sound, I can live with that but......my first mp3 file trans was successful and none after??? They appear in bitpim as though they're there but aren't in my phone. Help please????? I should have just overwritten the existing tones but now I cant even do that, cause they no longer appear in bitpim. PLZ HELP :o|
ok please someone ansewr this i get ringtones off of thumbplay there sent to my phone but i cant add them to my ringers list and its an lg banter i have
@jowko111 instead of adding ringtones, right click a crappy one and overwrite it with the ringtone you want. You don't even have to bother with mysound.dat
This works for Telus? On Bitpim, I dont see a "filesystem"? Why not? What version do you have? Does it matter? Do I have to have USB and LG drivers installed?
For those who can't get the ringtones to show up, you have to delete lg_mysound.dat, in /dload in the filesystem structure. Then once your phone is unplugged restart it, the file will be re-created and the new files will show up in the ringtones.
Also for me bluetooth didn't work (dir structure wouldn't show up), you have to get a usb cable and choose "USB Device - Vendor LG Electroncs, Product VX Series Phone (Direct USB connection), (Interface Diagnostics Interface)" for the Com port.
Okayyyyyy... I added another file and now the first one as well as the newly added ones do not exist as ringtone options anymore however they added files do show as being in the folder under the BitMip tool.
@DJSkewer hey great video works great just put a hole album on with one click well i just dragged and dropped from itunes. it took a few minutes and my banter restarted after transfer but just like that its there! sweet video ty very much...
@JaferDeluxe what the hell?!! just go to radio shack and get a micro sd adapter for about ten bucks!! we got two different versions in one package. take your phones card out stick it in the adapter and off you go... follow the prompts on your PC and click and drag files to the micro card. limewire files, itunes, frostwire.. So easy and no downloading Bitpim or anything else
Okay, everything opens and copies fine, but when I go back to my phone, anything that I copy isn't showing up. Also, my ringtones that I previously purchased thru Alltel are no longer there. what's wrong?
@highbrowmedia well iight dis is at happended to me wat u need to do is after u copied the music to ur phone wait 5 minutes and turn off ur phone and and then turn it back on it should be there.
Thanks for the info Now, Is the file we need to delete called: "sd_sound.dat" or "my_mp3.dat" or "lg_mysoundsize.dat" or "lg_mysound.dat" or "lg_default_sound.dat" All these were found in the file "dload"
i dont know why everyone has problems and has to use this prog.. i just move the mp3's to phone and set them.. easy as that. i just dont get why someone wants to go through all them steps. play with your phone abit you will get it.
The "fylesystem" tab doesn't come up on my screen. Do I have to update it?

For those who can't get the ringtones to show up, you have to delete lg_mysound.dat, in /dload in the filesystem structure. Then once your phone is unplugged restart it, the file will be re-created and the new files will show up in the ringtones.
Also for me bluetooth didn't work (dir structure wouldn't show up), you have to get a usb cable and choose "USB Device - Vendor LG Electroncs, Product VX Series Phone (Direct USB connection), (Interface Diagnostics Interface)" for the Com port.
