  • Enough of this gay banter

  • reddit brought me here

  • 27 accountants watched this video.

  • I am becoming a Chartered Accountant...

  • @captaincrick are you dull, unimaginative, timid and tedious company? :-)

  • these are amazing!!! did they perform these live?

    .... are they improv??!!!!

  • @wafflewaffle90 do they LOOK improv?

  • @metyuewb well... no... but that's the whole point of why i'm asking.

  • @wafflewaffle90 and what conclusion have you come to?

..By the way, before you forget, you are on the net. You could find out quicker!

  • @metyuewb i have come to the conclusion that they are not improv, but they are performed live. *shake's metyuewb's hand* :)

  • THEEEE LAAAAAAAARCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • I have a hat.

  • "Irrepressibly drab and awful" lol

  • I came for the lion tamer...and stayed for the farmer at the end

  • The terrible moment when the top two comments are the same.

  • @HiTunes4 what I don't get is that the person who made the comment first has fewer thumbs than up!

At the risk of sounding cliche, I would say these comments are DULL, drab etc. etc. but I'm not gonna hate on people who made comments 365 days ago

  • A splendid piece of work. The piquant and subtle humor is enhanced

by the use of the larch, an amazing tree that is coniferous and has

    needles and cones.

BUT, it sheds its needles. Additionally, in the Harry Potter literature,

it is described as a highly desirable wood for wands.

Thank you for posting the most amusing and educational video.

  • You know, some of the things they suggest, eg. going step by step actually is GOOD adive. So not only is this funny, some things are helpful. You just have to love Monty Python, they are amazing.

  • the top comments are the exact same thing

  • @dig6dog

Monty Python did a compilation film of most of their best sketches called "And Now For Something Completely Different" and that will be the version you saw; I remember it as well. I think the film was an attempt to break into the US film market, but "PBS" beat them to it by showing the "real thing" ! But it gave the Pythons some filming practice for when they made "Monty Python And The Holy Grail" on a miniscule budget.

  • Shame that the Python only used minor things like the knight with the raw chicken in recurrence but not their brilliant ideas like this one, alone the eerie chant “Vocational Guidance Counsellor” demands many sequels; and there are many other jests about jobs so they could have made it a series throughout their episodes; the same is it with the Spanish Inquisition, Hitler in England or the Court Scene; as one can make more than one jest with these funny characters.

  • @FireEyedMaidOfWar

Can you name any other Monty Python characters who would want counselling about their new jobs? For me it looks like the whole idea of such councillorship is intended exclusively for dull, unimagitive and spineless individuals.

  • @viv2k: Actually one could send most of them to the vocational guidance counsellor! A funny choice would have been one of the judges, the military folk, the village idiot, Arthur “Two Sheds” Jackson (of course), the Spanish Inquisition, the dubious Italian business man, Hitler and his remaining henchmen and of course one of the Scots; the only difficulty would have been not to do it too much and to write a funny dialogue; but the Python can be quite good at that.

  • How can someone with "no sense of humor" be so funny?

  • @taitai907 by accident

  • @dig6dog that was in the film "And now for something completely different" wasn't it?

  • time enough i think for a piece of wood...

  • @dig6dog yeah it is

  • I am about to graduate with a degree in Accounting...he's so right....lol

  • @angusfan23 You should've chosen Lion Taming as your minor, you know. LOL

  • My sister's studying to be an accountant. The amazing thing is that she's not al *all" dull, tedious or awful!

  • @listerone - Really??...... Have you you thought about lion taming??

  • wrong way round............sorry!

  • if i call missis Tipperfeild and tell him-HER! lol 3:00

  • I just sent about $210 to the address at 5:21. Hope it helps!!

  • my dads an accountant and he loves this

  • 27 chartered accountants saw this

  • cool stuff but we do it better

  • @alexanderashavn ...we? america's made up of everyone else, technically there is no we unless you're talking about the world as a whole

  • @alexanderashavn Because this is totally the best place to advertise your chartered accountancy buisness... seeing as everyone's laughing at them and calling them dull... >.>

    Yes, that was sarcasm... ^_^

  • I've worked in an accounting office for the last 3 years, and it wasn't dull at all. The work can be slightly tedious at times, but that's the same for pretty much any job out there, and the people I worked with weren't boring at all. My boss had a black belt in Karate, my manager could always be found in a nightclub at 2am on the weekend, and the girl I sat next to was always up with the latest celeb gossip and sold makeup on the side; pretty much normal, every day people.

  • @MashMashyMash "Normal, everyday people" ....which is exactly the Vocational Guidance Counsellor's point...

If you don't believe me, look into the "giving a serious answer to this video" section of Monty Python's Vocational Guidance Guide for further information. If that doesn't help, consider visiting a counsellor :-P

P.S. I mean no offense, so please don't give me a serious answer. That would mean your condition is chronical

  • @brucxevic I'm assuming it's because I'm a normal, everyday accountant so in love with numbers that I am at a total loss as to what to say in repsonse?

  • @MashMashyMash

Yes, but are you a CHARTERED accountant ?

  • @roddy76to86 no I'm not, I was but a humble accounting clerk, now accounting student...does that mean I'm safe?!

  • @MashMashyMash

Well the sketch does specifically mention chartered accountants (what's the difference ?), so I presume you are just out of the "danger zone" !

  • I soooo wish I had seen this before I started studying to be an accountant. This video is a must-see for all who are deciding who to become. Listen to John! Save yourselves while you still can!

  • I'd love to see a romance novel about a chartered accountant.

  • Related videos: "Accounting Careers & Information : How to Become a Chartered Accountant "

    LOL!

  • @DragonSporks Related Video - Jim Carrey is Rocky Balboa. Wait what?

  • Just Brilliant. Still makes me laugh....

  • I've seen this sketch hundreds of times, so i cant laugh out loud at it anymore (still a bloody hilarious sketch don't get me wrong", but for some reason this time "I got it at Harrod's" made me laugh so incredibly hard this time.

    Anyone else love that line?

  • About 30 years ago my "Careers Officer" at school recommended that I should become an accountant . This sketch was the main reason I said "NO !"

  • @roddy76to86 Yet another life saved by the Flying Circus!!! :-D

  • @roddy76to86 How to live your life ;)

  • "Do you have any qualifications?"

    "Yes, I've got a hat."

  • My sister is majoring in accounting . . . *shudders*

  • 25 people are chartered accountants.

  • 1:38 I like the way he takes it all...poor chap LOL

  • My God it's DOLL!!

  • when my dad comes home from his job as an accountant, I show him this.

I even bought him a mug with it on

  • utterly brilliant. 'mr anchovy'

  • I love how Mr. Anchovy just nods politely as the Counsellor insults him

  • The larch.

  • Does he have his own hat?

  • Playing a 45- year- old man at the age of 26...

  • Enough with this gay banter!!! :)

  • As a Chartered Accountant I find this really funny haha. They're always taking the piss out of Accountants.

  • and now for something completly different

  • I love monty python every sketch makes me laugh out loud :) they are the best

  • I want a job...something exciting and that will let me live..."

    I know...

    A LUMBERJACK!!!

  • I cant get away from the larch! THE LARCH!

  • Accountancy is FUN!!!

  • This skit is so funny that I direct my accounting students here to watch it. Hopefully it will lead them to avoid this terrible debilitating social disease. :-D

  • LOL! Mr Anchovy...

  • This makes me want to stand up+ DO WHAT THE HECK I WANT. :-)))Cookie cutter beings. :-) Great vid to show what our kids face every day with these counselors. Yep!! These beings KNOW They can make or break a childs spirit to do what he dreams of doing. They are told they will never amount to anything because they do poorly on the material we are told is truth-The truth the "Few" wants us to believe; when we are tested on these "lies" put forth as truth + we do poorly-we are tagged as stupid. WOW!

  • OMG he had a lion picture behind the desk!!! xDDD

  • The 25 people who disliked this are obviously appallingly dull, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, have no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressively drab and awful

  • Any sketch with Cleese and Palin going back and forth is an automatic classic. The other Pythons are great, but Palin and Cleese are the best.

  • her/him blooper at 02:59

  • "Exciting? Not its not. It's dull dull dull. My god its dull."

  • "have you got any qualifications?"

    "yes...i have a hat!"

  • @luketenant13 Just like Tf2.

  • I love how he had a lion picture ready below his desk.

  • I think he thinks that it's dull...

  • john cleese is the master of keeping a straight face

  • @poposchiss Well, the Ministry of Silly Walks is really a proof of that as well.

  • The Larch.

  • at 2:06 I almost expected him to say "LUMBERJACK !"

  • why did he have a lion picture handy? LMFAO

  • Two guys did this at a theatre show at my school, and they killed with it. Hilarious sketch

  • "Iv got a hat!"

  • Interesting that at the end it lists the address as Basil Street, a street John Cleese used to live at and the inspiration for the name of Mr. Fawlty.

  • "So you can tame them after dark when they're less stroppy." God I couldn't breathe the first time I heard that line.. XD

Also have to agree Palin and Cleese had a special chemistry together, much though I love all the Pythons.

  • @megamarsvin Funnily enough, although I have seen this sketch lots of times, right from when it was first shown on TV, I don't remember this line, so hearing it just now left the same effect on me. A nice surprise!

  • well, back to the office with you then. ^.^

  • "Does this lion eat... ants?" Sheer genius!

  • Yes, I've tried sending mail to that address given in the video, and it was promptly returned 2 weeks after I shipped it out with the dollar I placed remaining and no notes. I think it's safe to say it was made up!

  • It's dull dull dull, my God dull!

  • Quite possibly my favourite Python sketch ever. :)

  • action 4:05

  • Enough of this gay banter :)

  • This is freakin' hilarious...love it!

  • i'm dating a guy like that...

  • Classic sketch

  • hahaha i kind of pity this arthur putey character. he changed his name to anchovy (his mother's surname) because they laughed at the putey name. in python mythology, putey shot himself 20 years ago

  • @pandolfitow you are so right! not many people know that. only michael could have played him so well. i can't imagine anyone else playing putey

  • @pandolfitow me either. maybe graham (i loved his david thomas performance in the job interview sketch, he was kind of like putey) but michael is amazing in the role. he was robbed an oscar last year for sure

  • @pandolfitow

I love Authur Putey. I should make a fanfic based on him. Give him some time to shine.

Because the sad truth is... so many many people really are Authur.. even if they don't realize it. The same things day after day. Crappy job... crappy home... crappy pay...

I think Authur's theme song should be Look on the Bright Side (Life's a Piece of Shit, when you look at it)

Cause that's the story of his life.

Wait why are we talking about the fictional character again? lol

  • I think I'm going to write a fanfic about him too! It would be so awesome. You're right, lots of people are like Arthur... leading mediocre lives and not realising that they could be much better if they wanted to!

  • Ha... you should write it!! And I should get back to writing mine lol. But where to post it? lol I'm not planning on having slash so that leaves the only active community on livejournal out. Pythonline isn't really fanfic friendly (not at the rating score I usually write at lol) But I'll think of something lol.

But you must write it and let me know where you post it, I love Arthur. He just needs a good hug lol

  • I just sent you a message! Yep, poor Putey, he seriously needs some love!

  • "When I phone Mr Chipperfield and say 'I have a Chartered Accoutant who wants to become a Lion Tamer. His first question isn't going to be 'Does he have his own hat?'"

  • "Enough of this gay banter."

  • @HeatherRawriee

I'm wondering why this comment is getting so many thumbs up ? People do realise I hope that when this sketch was made about 1970, the word "gay" meant cheerful, and had no association with sexuality.

  • I love how at 2:42 Palin cracks up a little.

  • "No no--my brain in my h-head!" I believe he did there too.

  • Perhaps he'd best try working in a

    cheese shop.

    tx 4 posting

  • Best sketch EVER

  • haha palin has a type of hitler mustache

  • I've got a hat.

  • "And I've got a cowboy hat, but I work in the IT department. You do the math." ;)

  • The Larch!

  • 0:46

  • Cleese and Palin were unsurpassed.

  • Maybe by Chapman..

  • his first question is not gonna be....does he have his own hat?

  • "enough of this gay banter" - what a bastard, LOL

    best line

  • A friend and I did this sketch for a forensics competition along with the dead parrot sketch. Monty Python sketches are really fun to act!

  • The travel agent is best, but it takes a while to memorise LOL

  • Enough of this gay banter

  • my dad is a CA and he loled so hard!

  • Another classic Monty Python sketch from John Cleese and Michael Palin, just like:

    The Argument sketch

    Dead Parrot

    Ministry of Silly Walks

    Cheese Shop

    Those 2 have amazing chemistry

  • Don't forget the first part of the "My brain hurts" sketch!

  • @JerberWarren Strangely enough those are just my Favorites!

Those two really seem to have an Impact on me!^^

  • @JerberWarren You forgot the amazing and perfect Fish Dance!

  • THE LARCH!!! XD

  • does anyone else have the feeling the Moss character from IT Crowd is totally based on Michael Palin here? not just cause of the accent

  • Lol he jst has a picture of a roaring lion in his office XD

  • It's probably because of all of the numerous cases he's gotten of chartered accountants. :)

  • So let's count, Michael has been:

*a barber (who wanted to be a lumberjack)

    *a chartered accountant

    *a cheese shop proprieter

    *a pet shop owner

And now he wants to be a LION TAMER?

  • in the And Now For Something Completely Different movie he was a pet shop owner who wanted to be a jumberlack- I mean lumberjack

  • He was also the Head of The Careers Advisory Board (Who wanted to be a Doctor)

  • I wanted to be a doctor, but there you go.

  • I've seen a different version of this clip where, instead of John Cleese holding up a picture of a lion, there is actual footage of a lion leaping at the camera, anyone know where that's from?

  • That one is from And Now For Something Completely Different. :)

  • I like this version better, because of Michael's reaction to John holding the photo right to his face. :-)

  • A friend of mine teaches accounting. I keep asking her to show this to her class. For some strange reason, she never has... :P

  • I taught accountancy for 30 years and always played this to my DMS students so they could have a laugh at my expense. One group even clubbed together at the end of their course and bought me a metre-long ruler with a brass plaque attached saying "presented to ... - Lion Tamer"! Bless!

  • I'm afraid what you've got hold of there, is an anteater. LOL

  • ''...irrepressibly drab and awful.''

  • Michael seems so timid in this scene i just wanna hug him! <3

  • I know where i belong!!!

  • THAT'S MY HOUSE!!!

  • I looked it up and a "chartered accountant" is the British equivilent of what we call a "CPA" in the US.

  • i just realized that micheal and john have been in many sketchs together

  • huh...I seem to remember seeing a version of this where he flashed a clip of a lion roaring rather than showing him a picture.

  • This version is funnier because of John's roar and Michael's scream
