  • Excellent! Need to slow down tho. Hornpipes are slower than reels and you need to slow down to get the lilting feel of a hp. Mad skills tho. Great.

  • Very nice playing.

  • Mandobaran, I enjoyed your video. I'm a beginner, so would you mind going a little slower and tell what strings you are hitting? Thanks your mandolin friend Linda

  • awsome!! =D

can you send me the tabs plz

  • Great job man! If i could reccomend one thing at all, would be slow it down, but that was really good man! Keep it up!

  • Great job there! Consider slowing it down to a more comfortable speed until you fully master it!

  • great - stamp your foot to the beat to give it some swing and carry it along. The speed is not a prob just give your self a drum - see i love you honey - im not great but the foot stamping thing give it something try it!

  • I have to agree with the speed criticisms. It's just to fast and choppy and not very pleasant to listen to.

  • I'd have to issue you with a speeding ticket here.. You're a great musician so play the tunes with more conviction and meaning than speed!

  • slow down buy !!good playing though to much drive as some parts

  • wow ya blow me away what a good player.you are i really enjoyed this well done

  • Good job, I can just about play these on the 5 string banjo, but nowhere near that fast! Youve inspired me to play them together though, one after the other!

  • Nice job! I personally prefer both tunes just a little bit slower - - I think some of the melody gets lost sometimes. But you play well. Also that Gibson A-9 is terrific -- best mandolin out there dollar for dollar! Great video.

  • hey that song is from pirates of the carribean! XD

  • It's much older than Pirates of the Carribean is, though.

  • Has anyone been able to get hold of a live recording of Cooley's hornpipe? I got the reel no bother, but the hornpipe is difficult to get. I only got it when I heard a sample of a cd.

  • yeah, pretty mush, is just that on this video the sound coming from each note sounds like a single string.

  • One question, the mandolin has double strings right? so how do you do the solo, you pick both strings as one or pick just one of them?

  • I play both strings as if they were one. This is just my opinion but the double strings make the rapid back and forth motion (tremolo) much easier. Tremolo on a single string, like the guitar, is tough. Does this answer your question?

  • you are great ... just slow down a bit - theres a lot lost to listen to . That way you can add more emphasis on some notes etc ... but you are way better than me .

  • good job, thanks for posting

  • Good recovery technique. I wouldn't like to dance at that speed tho', unless I had someone to untie my legs afterwards.

  • Hey I wanna tell you MandoBaron, you did a good job,way better than I could ever do because well,I CAN'T PLAY MONDOLIN YET! =D

    Keep Pickin',Sunshine! :)

  • you should play what you can play, no faster. it will sound better if you play it little bit slow.

  • I would suggest going a bit slower to make sure you can play everything. From the looks of it you seem nervous and so your tempo keeps going a bit faster.

  • awsome job

  • just wondering, what thickness pick do you prefer?

  • i am using a 1.5 mm proplec

  • mandolin is quite easy to learn, but quite hard to master. g8 job

  • first I would like to congratulate you on being one of the few people on youtube capable of tuning their mandos properly. lol. and second, great playing.

  • I agree with every word you said =)

    Good job sounds great!

  • I wish I could tell you! I got it from some peer to peer share download in MP3 format with no annotation other than that it was him. No idea even when he recorded it. He starts it out straight but then goes really jazzy-bluesy with it.

  • This is the same BPM as Grisman plays it, at least for Fisher's. Nice old Gibson A!

  • wow, i have actually never heard him do it. what album is it on?

and surprisingly, its a 2003. haha. i suppose i play it hard.

  • breath...

  • nicely done - if you slow it down a bit, you will really be able to feel the rhythm and groove with it. :)

  • i am also a fiddler, and why the hell is he going so goddamn fast?

  • That's the bluegrass style. ;)

  • >.> normally I might agree, but not all bluegrass is done fast...... just most of it.

and I accidentally hit spam on your comment because I thought it said reply ^^; what I get for being up too late.

  • Cuz you can't. However, he would do better to slow down. Muffed it in a few parts, esp the transition. Not fantastic in any regard.

  • hey...we'r trying to dance...!

  • I AGREE...Nice but too fast!...Slow it down and put a little syncopation into it...You will be amazed at how it sounds.

  • Woooahhhh fellah - Nice but too fast

  • I love fishers on the mando...cool

  • hey AMAZING kid!

  • awesome - greetings from mandowoppet!

  • holy crap wowzerz

  • Slow it down there buddy! your making the rest of us look like crap.

  • nice man! what kind of mandolin do you have?

  • AWESOME JOB!

  • Is a MANDOLIN, he cant play it more slowly xDD LOL

  • Wow ! Nice but, try to slow down a bit...

  • lol cool, dude how can you not smile after playing that? :D

  • Nicely done!

  • awsoomeee yo i want a mandolin

  • Very nice man, love the triplet runs on Cooley's. Check out the version my friend and I did:

    youtube com/watch?v=_HNNu8x_ulA

  • he he, Fisher's Hornpipe is in Pirates of the Caribbean 2

  • i like the mandolin a lot. i play fisher's hornpipe on the five string banjo. i love that song.

  • Mandobaron, fast is good, but accurate is best.Enjoyed your playing all the same.

  • I play it at a more leisurely hornpipish pace...Your right, accurate is best....

  • Very good playing! You should actually slow down a bit i think, but still very good.

  • wow... you have talent. a lot of missed notes, but i can understand at that tempo. btw nice mando! gibson?

  • Really well done! love that song i play it on eletric and it sounds great. You are amazing but its so fast that people that don't know the song might not hear how well you are playing it.. and just speed you know, but shows off your talent brilliantly! Well done dude! Beautiful mandol btw :P Xx

  • great work mate, you ever heard of luke plumb? plays with a band called shooglenifty, great player

  • shooglenifty is my hero. great stuff.

  • Not to bad -- bloody fast, but I'd love to hear you on a Weber and get some nice resonation out of the body.

  • kiss ass man thats great

  • Thats good stuff!

  • is that a blackface A9? never seen one of those if it is, good pickin'

  • nope, its just a dark one, i love it.
