Mandobaran, I enjoyed your video. I'm a beginner, so would you mind going a little slower and tell what strings you are hitting? Thanks your mandolin friend Linda
great - stamp your foot to the beat to give it some swing and carry it along. The speed is not a prob just give your self a drum - see i love you honey - im not great but the foot stamping thing give it something try it!
Good job, I can just about play these on the 5 string banjo, but nowhere near that fast! Youve inspired me to play them together though, one after the other!
Nice job! I personally prefer both tunes just a little bit slower - - I think some of the melody gets lost sometimes. But you play well. Also that Gibson A-9 is terrific -- best mandolin out there dollar for dollar! Great video.
Has anyone been able to get hold of a live recording of Cooley's hornpipe? I got the reel no bother, but the hornpipe is difficult to get. I only got it when I heard a sample of a cd.
I play both strings as if they were one. This is just my opinion but the double strings make the rapid back and forth motion (tremolo) much easier. Tremolo on a single string, like the guitar, is tough. Does this answer your question?
you are great ... just slow down a bit - theres a lot lost to listen to . That way you can add more emphasis on some notes etc ... but you are way better than me .
I would suggest going a bit slower to make sure you can play everything. From the looks of it you seem nervous and so your tempo keeps going a bit faster.
first I would like to congratulate you on being one of the few people on youtube capable of tuning their mandos properly. lol. and second, great playing.
I wish I could tell you! I got it from some peer to peer share download in MP3 format with no annotation other than that it was him. No idea even when he recorded it. He starts it out straight but then goes really jazzy-bluesy with it.
Really well done! love that song i play it on eletric and it sounds great. You are amazing but its so fast that people that don't know the song might not hear how well you are playing it.. and just speed you know, but shows off your talent brilliantly! Well done dude! Beautiful mandol btw :P Xx
Excellent! Need to slow down tho. Hornpipes are slower than reels and you need to slow down to get the lilting feel of a hp. Mad skills tho. Great.

Great job there! Consider slowing it down to a more comfortable speed until you fully master it!

I have to agree with the speed criticisms. It's just to fast and choppy and not very pleasant to listen to.
racaroc 1 year ago
I'd have to issue you with a speeding ticket here.. You're a great musician so play the tunes with more conviction and meaning than speed!

yeah, pretty mush, is just that on this video the sound coming from each note sounds like a single string.

One question, the mandolin has double strings right? so how do you do the solo, you pick both strings as one or pick just one of them?

Good recovery technique. I wouldn't like to dance at that speed tho', unless I had someone to untie my legs afterwards.

you should play what you can play, no faster. it will sound better if you play it little bit slow.

This is the same BPM as Grisman plays it, at least for Fisher's. Nice old Gibson A!

nicely done - if you slow it down a bit, you will really be able to feel the rhythm and groove with it. :)

That's the bluegrass style. ;)

>.> normally I might agree, but not all bluegrass is done fast...... just most of it.
and I accidentally hit spam on your comment because I thought it said reply ^^; what I get for being up too late.

Cuz you can't. However, he would do better to slow down. Muffed it in a few parts, esp the transition. Not fantastic in any regard.
