For most left-handed people, it's actually easier to play right-handed, because your dominant hand is doing all the complex stuff. I'm a lefty, but I play right-handed. Just try to start playing right handed and see how it feels, and if it doesn't feel natural, there's nothing wrong with playing left handed.

Btw, the corrections I gave (the one with the capo) only applies if you wanna do the song like he did it in American Idol... I heard a version with the same pitch that you did... But, still, Dm should still be D7... That's it... sorry for not clearing this out the first time...

Try a constant strumming while switching that way it sounds consistent. Anyways practice makes perfect too.

just go over the fingering of the notes and keep switching between notes. you dont even need to strum it. just switch back and forth until you think your confident enough to play it.
