  • It should be noted she skipped 2 partners and two promenades, not just one. It isn't only the balance that is difficult but also the control to complete the 4 promenades while creating effortless balances in between. The audience doesn't realize the difficulty of the promenade when in fact they require as much control and strength as the balances, hence the double dose of difficulty at the climax of the adagio. One expects more of a great artist than this, this is disappointingly a circus stunt.

  • I'm not a fan of Tamara Rojo. Her technique is good but not great. I was disappointed that her working leg visibly dropped during her first balances in attitude. She also was completely off balance when she took her third suitor's hand for the turning balance in attitude at the end. And I cannot believe that she held her attitude for song long at the end, but wouldn't take the last suitor's hand. Unbelievably selfish. Alina Cojocaru's rose adagio is definitely the best one out there.

  • From a personal point of view, I feel that she could've done that balance at the end! I guess it could be argued that it ruins one of the most sacred adagio's in Ballet, but wouldn't the audience feel flattered to be treated with the one and only Tamara Rojo showing off a phenomenal balance? You heard that applause at the end - they loved it!

  • what an idiot! she can show off through the whole ballet whilst these 4 guys only have these 6 minutes of glory and she just has to flaunt that she can balance for more than 5 seconds. this is as selfish as you can get. Technichally she's awesome, i won't deny it, but artistically, as a dancer and as human being she's not worth anything

  • Why...why did she do that? Is it because she was a little off in the beginning with her balancing leg that she had to prove she does have amazing balance? I love Tamara, I think she is unbelievably talented. I enjoy watching her dance VERY MUCH, but I don't get the last part. If it was to show off...she doesn't need to. She is amazing even standing, so why change such a beautiful part from the most precious adagio in ballet? I still enjoyed it; thank you so much for posting.

  • i think you've missed the point of the rose adagio as a virtuoso piece....it's all about the excitement of the balances...i bet the bravura performance of balance technique really got the audience going. whenever i go to see tamara dance this role, i expect her deliver this....if she didn't i think id want my money back

  • @bernsp I think you were the one who missed the point. It's not all about the balances. This is a Pas d'action - it's ALL about telling a story thorugh dance and mime, something most ballerinas today tend to ignore for the sake of showing off. I can't believe the ballet masters at the ROH let their ballerinas do this.

  • circus!!!

  • @ruicleroi love it though!!!

  • sorry to say it but her acting is pretty awful!

  • Come on! This is fun and that's all.

Once in a life it's not ruining Petipa's work ;)

And her balance is just damn impressing 0_0

  • petipa put that last promenade for a good reason, this is not a gala, I don't understand it.

  • es una tripilla D: se va a romper

  • I don't care how good Tamara's balances are - by ignoring the last prince, she destroyed the whole effect of the Rose Adagio. Aurora is supposed to be choosing between her four suitors here, not showing off how good she is at doing circus tricks...

  • @theamazingsoter Another ballerina who was consistently guilty of this was Viviana Durante, formerly of the Royal Ballet. So much of the classical dancing in Sleeping Beauty is about symmetry, proportion and architectural balance. And all those qualities are thrown out the window when the ballerina balances through the music for the last suitors. Impressive though it may be, the effect is jarring rather than pleasing.

  • @theamazingsoter ...Who on Earth are you to judge one of the Royal Ballet's top ballerinas? You have no idea how many years of training, blood, sweat and tears that girl has put into her career, and if she would like to 'show off' her balances she is well in her right to do so!

  • @LittleBallerina1996 I know very well about the years of training, blood, sweat and tears needed to succeed (or at least try out) in this career. I wasn't trying to undervalue Rojo's work, but for a company who claim they are closer to the authentic Russian school and Petipa than even the Kirov itself, they should not mess up with the choreography like this. Of course, you are free to disagree with me. And if you don't like what I say in my comments, then don't read them.

  • MADRE MÍA! BRAVAAAAA! =D

  • Je n'apprécie pas vraiment cette danseuse..

  • @amandanseforever

Voici une argumentation démonstrative de légèreté mentale

  • stop zooming in on her feet!!

  • to quote tamara herself (when asked about doing things like this) "if you've got it, flaunt it"....this was a gala performance on tour, i think and pretty much every dancer will show off technical feats in those...

you can't compare rojo and osipova, they're different dancers, trained in different schools, dancing for different companies who have completely different styles of ballet, hence the 'russian style', 'english style', 'american style', 'french style' etc

  • Why don't we stop comparing and trying to find out who is 'the best'? What defines the best? The highest developpé? The longest balance? (Tamara is up there in that case) The most pirouettes? (Tamara again is there)... Technique is required to dance all these principal roles, so they are all more or less perfect, everyone has flaws. Interpretation is such a wonderful thing. Wouldn't it be boring if they all played the all roles exactly the same every single time it was performed?

  • I'm sorry I shrieked when i watched that last balance "en attitude" are you kidding? I love Tamara...

  • Beautiful ballerina, just beautiful!!

  • Hardly exciting. Tamara certainly has the potential to be a great Aurora but where is the vivacity and innocence of a young, innocent and vibrant girl??? Too much trying to be the Ballerina. Also, she should reprimanded for that last bit of a showbiz stunt. How dare she leave one of her suitors standing there with egg on his face. NOT the sign of a true Ballerina.

  • @fisten54 she isn't trying to be a ballerina at all. she has perfect technique and if you've ever had the thrill of achieving the perfect balance in attitude you would understand why she held it longer than she might have been supposed to. also i'm sure if the royal ballet's directors and ballet staff didn't think she danced that role very well they wouldn't cast her as aurora.

  • @drustaajakz96 I can quite understand where you are coming from but I do stand by what I wrote. I do have a little experience having partnered ballerinas such as, Eva Evdokimova, Elisabetta Terabust and worked with Dame Margot, Nureyev, Glen Tetley etal. Please have a look at Natalia Osipova. Now there is a dancer on the very edge of perfection in technique. You will be blown away by her. My best wishes to you.

  • @fisten54 wow! if you have had the privilidge to work with fonteyn and nureyev however i am very aware that osipova is incredible but you cannot compare an english company ballerina to a russian they are completely different in how they have been trained and the style they dance.you cannot watch a whole performance of tamara and not be blown away be her either both rojo and osipova have stage presence to die for and i just dont understand how you can say that tamara's balance was hardly exciting

  • @fisten54 you have such ignorance inside of you

  • @repn87 I've never read that anywhere. Only because she looks boring and tired here doesn't mean she hates the ballet. She loves Swan Lake (she said herself in a ROH video interview that it was a fantastic role that she found very enjoyable) however, in most of the ROH recordings of her Swan Lake she looks just as impassive as here. Maybe she's just tired. Period.

  • @repn87 Tamara doesn't hate dancing Aurora. She, like many ballerinas, prefer profound characters that challenge them to improve their interpretive skills. Aurora, though a beautiful role to dance, is a very vacuous character.

  • In defense of Tamara...one has to remember that the distance between the dancers and the audience is considerable due to the orchestra pit. She she may not be putting that much into expressions or her acting. If she KNEW she were being videoed..things may be different...Her Juliet for example I think is superb. Is this production going to be released in dvd or blue-ray?

  • she reminds me of alina somova, someone that doesn't thrill me.

  • @repn87 Yours is also and the coaches doesn't changes the choreography.

  • @repn87 no it wasn't. If it was changed, the third prince wouldn't have show is hands for her to hold. She could've easily made her balance like in the original choreography after the fourth suitor and asked the conductor to stretch the music in order to make her balance longer.

  • Whoever was the videographer did a stinking horrible job. It's one thing to only show the upper body and not pay attention to feet, but to cut off the upper body in the Rose Adagio? :/

Tamara looked really exhausted and seemed to be on auto-pilot while she was dancing...of course, we all have our off-days, right? That balance at the end was ridiculous though. As much as I love her for being able to do something like that, I'm sure the suitor felt stupid just standing there getting ignored. :/

  • What is this? She looks unhappy dancing the Rose Adagio. She doesn't smile, dance without pleasure, she looks tired, dancing by obligation

Your leg dont need to be incredibly high, but you have to pass something good for people and she did not pass.

Finally: If you can not hold a high attitude, do not put your attitude high. If you think cant balance anymore, stop with balance.

  • Rojo's arabesque and attitude is starting to go, there's no question. She's at that age 36 when the technique in certain areas starts to fail and arabesque is always first to falter, along with elevation.

  • Un diez para Tamara y los bailarines, y un cero patatero para el realizador.

  • i have to say i didn't really like this varation. I think there are some parts where tamara rojo's technique is not amazing! I admit the end balance is incredible but there are some parts where her attitude is turned in and and low. Maybe its just because I saw Alina Cojocaru do this befoore I watched this one!

  • Watching a balance like that last one is thrilling, but it bothers me that Rojo violates the dance itself by ignoring her last two suitors. No doubt, there is an element of showiness in the demands of the Rose Adagio, but artistic integrity should take precedence, don't you think?

  • @dchiapello I totally agree. I fell she disrespected her partners and the choreography just to prove she can still balance. I hate when ballerinas halters the choreography just to show off.

  • I'm always complaining when ballet videos cut off the legs and feet, but cutting off the upper body is senseless!

  • Magnifica!!!Bravo!!!!

  • wao, do you have it complete?

  • her leg falls when she is in attitude

  • the editor of this clip should be shot !

  • @havenization We don't say things like that anymore after michelle Giffords.

  • Am I the only one that did'nt like it when the camera focused on her feet at EXACTLY THE WRONG TIMES????

  • WOW!

As much as I like Alina on this role, that last balance is amazing! Tamara brings something different to this.

I own the DVD with Alina... now... I also want to own this one!!!!!!!
