Sammy started earlier than Michael Jackson! He was in show biz non-stop, and at a very, very, difficult time. His saving grace was his close, supportive family and his circle of friends. he was a true survivor; one of the few child stars who did not self-destruct and he was a quadruple (talent) threat!
solo a los MAESTROSa los,GRANDES MAESTROS,se le rinde pleitesia de esta manera y no es para menos era un genio del TAP.Muy bien Grecory Hines con el gesto oportuno y generoso.Me emociona ver este video.
they are both legends. and they will live on forever as the greatest performers and teachers this world has ever seen. rest in peace, and a million, billion, trillion thanks to all these men have contributed to one of the greatest art forms in history. 100% respect.
I gave my kids a history lesson when Michael Jackson passed and people called him the greatest all around entertainer ever. Played some footage of Sammy to show them who really was the best ever. RIP Michael and Sammy.
Ok...Singer, Dancer, Actor, Impressionist, Comedian, Instrumentalist....and all done WELL. There will NEVER be another with such prodigious all around talent. NEVER. Thanks so very much for posting this. I am fortunate enough to remember him well. Don't forget...he was only allowed to display that which the white community LET HIM display. I can't even imagine what we'd have seen had he been allowed free reign like the performers are allowed today. He was simply the best of the best.
I remember seeing this when it aired. I cried when Gregory Hines kissed his feet. I believe Sammy died shortly thereafter. Thanks for preserving this footage.
P.S. - I also remember where I was when Hines died, I cried then too!
I remember this very well, because Sammy was dying at the time. True to form, Mr. Showmanship took up Gregory Hines on a tap dance exhibition even though he as severely week from chemotherapy treatments. Not many watching this on TV realized it at the time but some of us did and I was so moved by this moment. This originally aired as a salute to Sammy Davis (and those participating realized he only had a short time to live). Thanks for preserving this historic moment.
Sammy was probably the best overall song & dance cat of all time, because he could do stand up comedy, do vocal impressions, and play instruments as well..
The pupil and the master. So much fun, love, admiration and respect!!

One of the greatest moments in show biz. Hines payed homage to him was one of the greatest display of humility and respect. A classic.
