Like everything in life the artists have a choice as to whether to signup to a record label. Just as people have a choice not to buy it. Sure make a stand and don't buy the stuff if you feel that strongly about it, but that doesn't give you the right to pirate it. If you really wanted to make a point to the artists, just don't listen to the stuff. Truth is the artists don't want to give away their cash to record companies, but its how they get exposure so are happy to do so.

Not really, given the amount of control over the markets. Fortunately, alternative means are opening up, and that tight stronghold they have is weakening allowing this "choice" to become more real.
What 'new business model' do you propose that doesn't involve theft of intellectual property? Or do you suffer from the delusion that you deserve whatever you want for free?
Duh, that's how the world works. Why don't we pay the people who make clothes directly and not the retail stores, or the people that pick fruit and not the supermarket. Or the people that drill for oil instead of Exxon. That would work wouldn't it. Yeah right. Learn to pay the market rate for what you want, nobody forces you to buy it. Why not listen to bands who give stuff away for free, or download games that are actually free, because 99.99% of them are absolute crap that's why.
I do tend to buy food a farmer's markets actually. However, the record companies then need to stop acting like the artist are losing all the money. Some artist are being to catch on to selling themselves, however, many are still under contract from the big record companies. Right now, IMAO, the RIAA is a monopoly that is trying to making sure that all major artist are under a record company they control. If any other industry did this, there would be outrage.
I am wary of ANYBOD? who posts the 99.99% statistic, because it is a bullshit unit of data that one *usually* uses when he or she has no factual info to back a claim.

This is your brain, This is your brain on piracy. Piracy can lead to MRSA, AIDS, death or even Re-vitiligo.

@17aKaT The only thing piracy gave anybody is either anger due to slow torrents or infantaigo.

Play the artist directly, and not the huge corporate fat cats that did none of the work.
