I do fish midge/buzzers patterns on the river mostly in small sizes, but nothing like I would fish on the lochs..Best dry would be the Griffiths Gnat, emerger Shuttlecock black and olive and best pupa would be a quilled buzzer...
Hi Davie, I read in one of your comments that you use rimmel ladies varnish is that the same as the varnish you buy from fly tying shops? by the way great fly i like the holographic effect you get will try one of these. Alan
A special thanks to you, Mr. McPhail, for posting this pattern. I'm headed out today, for our bi-annual trip to Henry's Lake, in Idaho, and I believe a having a few of these will prove a good notion. I'm going to fill a box with these, using red, green, black, and tan thread. Boo-yah! Thanks a million.
David...love watching your fly tying video's. Question??? I once watch you tie this loop thing on to the tip of the float so that you can tie your tippet to the loop. What was the loop thing made of and would you be able to make a video on how to attach it to the float line
The original flexi-floss I got came from Orvis which I think you can still buy, but I used Uni-flexx and Super Stretch Floss, which is exactly the same but a different name and is easier to get, from Veniards who are a wholesaler here in the U.K..
I hope this helps you but if you can't find it please get back in touch...
Great wee fly Davie, had some in my box and used them today, absoloutely hammered the fish with them, they were under an indicator. I think I'll tie a few.
a great wee buzzer pattern davie, i agree with the other comments, goose biots are a real pain in the neck to tie in, never sit right for me, i have been using flexi floss for a while, its so easy to use, anyway thanks for the vid , happy wrappings, davy.
Dave can the Grey Boy buzzer be tied with various colours of flexi floss to create a range of patterns?? It appears a lot easier then messing around with biots....
And also, why sometimes use Uni thread and other times UTC??
Very nice pattern! Here in norway there is still ice on the lakes, but in the end of april, begining of may the ice will let go and midgefishing is on! i'll most surely try some of your buzzers. Thanks for sharing your patterns!

Great use of materials for the cheeks, biots are a bugger.
Mick, you should see the buzzer Davie tied using a Doritios crisp bag.
Davie as always, great job and Thanks for doing these.

@mickporteruk ,
UTC thread is flat, it covers well without building much. its great for buzzers especially.
