  • so many other great forgotten bands/acts... Blancmange.. ABC... The Associates...Spandau Ballet (early years..) name soem more.... Visage.... damn I love the early 80's

  • Aaaaahhh… the halcyon days of lip synching!!!

  • carol shoulda got more fame with this voice..... looove the 80s!!

  • What song is she talking about at the beginning?

  • @owainmeurig

All Night Long by Lionel Richie.

  • @ajs41 Thanks.

  • @ajs41 Where in the lyrics of All Night Long by Lionel Richie, are the words sung on this by Carol Kenyon?

  • GARY SINISE

  • This would be a lot better if it weren't lip synced :( But I like this band nonetheless!

  • @maruichan

Not sure about that: the fact is a lot of innovative early 80s music relied on state of the art technology which was difficult to re-create in the studio. It might not have sounded as good played live. That was certainly the case when New Order did a live version of Blue Monday on Top of the Pops in March 1983. It didn't sound very good.

  • @ajs41 There's that but remember a lot of recording contract owners would not allow live performances to be recorded at this time.

  • remember seeing this on TV first time round.......happy days....:)

  • CRADLE OF FILTH VERSION RULZ \m/

  • They were pretty funky live!

  • brilliant miming :D

  • Choose life.

  • @th3w01fyz Yeah but people change and the drugs to ;-)

  • any way party fears two,by the Associates is much better

  • any way party fears two,by the Associates is much better

  • Oh he's admiring the view of her assets alright the naughty man.

btw Heaven 17 are doing good at the moment promoting the re-release of the new special version of the 1st album

  • Glen Gregory looks like the wine expert from saturday kitchen!

    (Olly Smith)

  • I still have the original vinyl - sounds great

  • BRINGS IT ALL BACK TO ME WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME WE ALL HAD SO SAD IM 44 NOW PITY YOU CAN'T TURN BACK TIME THATS ANOTHER ONE FROM CHER ALL BRILLIANT

  • Amazing!!!

  • Best choon the 80's. Thanks to transpotting for bringing it back into recognition.

  • Is that a couple of frames of "Last of the Summer Wine" at the end of the clip?

  • I can't believe - even now after 27 years - how this song wasn't No.1! Spandau's 'True' wasn't as brilliant a song as this and didn't deserve to be No.1 for so long!.

  • I was just 17 days old as this show was about to happen. :-) Great, great stuff! :-)

  • I liked the bit when she took her jacket off but hey, thats just me...

  • This is no where near Heaven 17's best song but I'm still glad they made it a hit... it's great but not the best.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Hey ther KittensG!

Of course Heaven17 is responsible for so much good music, I can't imagine which tune you may consider best, or 2nd,

    etc.

Just glad there were groups during this period of time--a time which I feel may never be eclipsed in my lifetime.

    Your Pal,

    Fluffy

  • Wow !

Yet another terrific example of the fun and creative spirit of the 80's. ! ! !

This sort of music has positive energy, and a lesson to be learned, if one cares to listen to the message within.

Well mastered, sounds good, and if you have the original pressing, you know how well it sounds, hey!

    Blessed 'Be

    Your Pal,

    Flluffy

  • @ThatMiserableCat

This is the original sound of the sound. I don't know if your comment means you think this is somehow a remastered version. It isn't, it's the original as heard in 1983.

  • @ajs41 My comment was meant to honor those responsible for doing the original work. Well done--producing and mastering is an art--and this record is artful!

  • @ThatMiserableCat Best choon the 80's. Thanks to transpotting for bringing it back into recognition.

  • @ThatMiserableCat I cant agree more, I was young then and getting ready to go out and listening to this just made me happy. I love the music of the 60's it was deep but for fun and good times this was the bizz. I hope the female singer went on to better things

  • I wanted to marry this lady when I was a kid....I looked her up and she's still hot now!

    ...I wonder if she's married.....

  • at the end there its Andy Peebles-Pobbles-Pies dj

  • Comment removed

  • They did look a dissolute bunch who looked a good 10 years older than they actually were compared to the young and fresh Miss Kenyon. Their suits weren't too hot either.

edit- It was probably Martyn Ware who was giving a lascivious glance to the leather clad behind of Carol and not a jaded Ian C-M.

  • Janice Long - Bless her. She doesn't look a day older now than she did back then.

    Yes ! - She looked over 50 back in 1983 !!!!!

  • lol!!!thats tickled me that

  • This song changed Heaven 17 from being a cult synth band. They wouldn't have lasted around if this hadn't been a big hit.

2-54 that old letch Craig Marsh leering at Carol Kenyon as she undresses. Dirty ol' perv.

Her vocals made this song so good. They owed her a lot whether she got it is another matter. Take your cradle of feltch or Jarvis Cuckold and Beth Zippo and their covers and go.

  • Of course the 3 members of Heaven 17 were about the same age as Carol Kenyon, but in 1983 it was fashionable to dress older than you actually were by wearing suits, etc, whereas these days most singers like to appear younger than they are.

  • Totally agree ajs41. I was around then and men wearing suits was THE best thing at least for me...anyway, I like older men!

  • @stellaviolens I bet Craig gave her one ;)

  • @stellaviolens "2-54 that old letch Craig Marsh leering at Carol Kenyon as she undresses. Dirty ol' perv". Who's the per Stella? The song is called Temptation and Craig and Carol are playing on the song. I call it good showmanship.

  • A real 80's anthem, white boy, black girl thing going on, has a powerfull X factor which is fine with me....!

Great song which has stuck in the memory banks......THX

  • HEAVEN17- PURE CLASS

  • I agree wholeheartedly !

  • It's weird listening to this

I first heard the CoF cover

  • A great song from one of my all time fav' bands. As for Carol Kenyon-what a voice. A true talent if ever i heard one

  • Totally agree RolandMC4! Now I have seen and heard Carol sing it I've changed my mind about the recent Glenn and Billie Godfrey colloboration. I'd forgotten what a strong voice Carol had!!!

  • OMG this is so old but one of my favourite tunes! The memories!

  • The Original and The Best

  • Carol Kenyon rocks. I wish she had released a solo album! I LOVE her single with Rapination, "Here's My A".

  • Memories come flooding right back...!!

  • You are all full of shite, being there this was fab, this was one of its time, if you still have it on 12" turn it up, I :LOVE IT!!!!

  • Carol Kenyon didn't get the fame she deserved. What a voice!

  • I totally agree, i love her !

  • I reckon he's Max Headroom.

  • Love it! 10/10!

  • you can't beat the oldies

  • This is truely a rocking oldschool party track you must love it there's no doub't it rules

  • this brings back a lot memories from my wild youth, it's as good now as is was then

  • She looks like Heather Small

  • ..brilliant find..never seen this performance before (well not since '83)..cooooool.

  • Thanks. Unfortunately the sound isn't that great. Some of the other videos on YouTube have higher quality sound.

  • They were the ONLY act that cut the mustard on a recent TV show "I LOVE 1983" It was a completely different and even better girl on vocals...

  • yes but for the time it's actually quite good

  • One of the best ever thanks. Any more?

  • I wish i could do a top 20 of 1983 - in a few weeks time proubaly! when i finish the 70s on to my hard drive. also are you planning to do the rest of the 80s top 40's from Radio 1!

  • Carol Kenyon was seriously underated... after this she worked with Go West but never got the solo success she deserved in her own right.

  • also i have the song on 3 occasions of TOTP from that year - 21/04/83, the 1000th edition, and this one from the Christmas special - which i havent watched so far and but even the 1000th edition wasnt shown on uk gold of that matter - also i have got a number of episodes on dvd in some black-slated cases.

  • also a mention that i've got that episode - but i havent watched it yet and but this was the only 2 episodes of 1983 they didnt show on uk gold.

  • looking for this song for ages.....cheers for uploading it....

  • Thanks! I've also uploaded the Top 40 of 1983 on Radio 1 (and 1982).

  • Awesome, great upload :)
